A friend of mine just gave me two peices of gear for my R33 (well my girlfriends R33)

A Blitz SBC i-color and

a Greddy eManage ultimate

Given that i am a skyline noob, is the R33 computer tunable or is it best to go with a piggy back setup?

What benefit is the SBC i-color going to provide other that boost control?

Any feedback would be appreciated............

Thanks guys,

more questions,

Can you re map a R33 computer or do you need to run a piggy back setup?

What sort of power would you expect to see out of an RB25 with tuning mods?

What sort of boost will it handle with no internal mods?

Assuming it runs standard turbo with big front mount cooler, pipe work, exhaust you know just the usual stuff.

Any ideas appreciated........

a little over 200rwkw with tuning

no you cant remap the RB25 ecu but there are options like the eManage you have

you will want a front mount intercooler, oil cooler if you plan to track it will help keep engine in good nick

Yeah cheers MADAZ,

Already had a front mount on it, you wouldn't happen to know a good place to install the eManage, best to get it done profesionally done i am assuming.

This may be a bit of a silly question but i am getting over 350rwkw out of my XR6T, i understand they are a bigger capacity motor but it is only with bolt on stuff, fuel pump, injectors, big cooler, flash tuner.

I guess the question is this, how hard would it be to acheive 300rwkw out or the little RB25??

Not very hard. Strap on a 3076 and profit

Can you introduce me to your friend, I want a friend that will give me that sort of stuff!!!!

If it's the dual solenoid boost controller (type R) you have yourself one of the best boost controllers on the market.

And the Emanage Ultimate is the best piggy back on the market.

RB25s can be modified to be tune-able but an Emanage or Power FC is what most consider the better option due to the ease of tuning.

If you fit the boost controller you'll be able to safely run 10-11 PSI MAX on a standard turbo. The emanage will be able to compensate for the R&R (rich and retard) that happens with that sort of boost. It's probably not worth putting them on unless you have a free flowing exhaust on there already.

ecu options

rb25 ecu, external emulator needed. only person i know that does em is dr. drift in vic.

rb20 ecu with nisstune, common chip mod, loose vct

z32 ecu with nisstune, same as rb20 but with vct and direct support with z32 air flow meter which you will need for 300rwkw anyways (or q45 afm for 300+)

power fc, most common but no safe map... if it starts knocking and you dont realize or dont ahve ahand control unit it could end in disaster

microtech, haltech, motec whatever tech, stand alone ecu's most have a map sensor therefore no need for afm.

then you have your piggy backs like emanage or other jap stuff which are ok but the time and money youll spend getting it right might as well go nisstune/power fc

out of a standard turbo setup with exaust and cooler on 12psi you will get close to 200rwkw, a bit over with a re-tune

for 300rwkw youd be looking at fuel pump, air flow meter, injectors, turbo and some sort of ecu. I would also reccomend a metal head gasket. there is plenty of options on which turbo to go for... depends on what you want to use it for and how responsive you want it to be.

Adrian is the only one making that sort of power on a standard bottom end .... and how long till it goes boom? (mind you his only survives cos 1. he is a great tuner and 2. he can touch-up tune it whenever it suits him - unlike the rest of us). The engines are just not designed to hold that sort of power .... the RB26 however is a different kettle of fish

Plus to make that sort of power on an RB25 you have a lag monster on your hands .... unlike an XR6 with 350rwkw that pushes significantly more exhaust gas.

Adrian isn't the only one i know off....Lee makes something like 356rwkw out of an unopened 25 as well...have seen that car around a lot

but i do see your point that a stock RB25 without forgies or head work making 300+ rwkw is a risk that it could let go any minute......to be able to push that much power make sure the ground work is there to support it

There will always be the knockers out there which is fine. Couple of things i have noted running E85 (please note this is my experience).

1. My car has been on E85 for a couple of years seeing plenty of road and dyno use and doesnt use a drop of oil.

2. Its 350rwkw or thereabouts

3. Its unopened

4. Max boost is all in by 3800rpm (23psi)

5. Its scary on street tyres

6. It puts a smile on my face every time i drive it.

7. Semi slicks still struggle in 3rd and 4th gears

8. It looks stock under the bonnet with stock mani's

9. Fuel lines are standard and are showing no sign of failure (Changed a couple filters first up tho)

10.Car has got next to no blow by(have never had to empty my catch can)

I could keep going but wont.

When my engine starts to get tired i can guarantee a Forged engine will not be on the shopping list.

Yes thats right a lowish k stocker for $1800 will be purchased.

Seems like i will need to spend bucket loads to a car that is still not as quick as my XR6T. Not really a fair comparison i guess given differences is engine capacity and turbo size.

For my 2cents it seems a bit redundant, what would be the benefit of me spending more on the R33 to get 300kw then i have to get 350kw out of my XR?????

    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.
    • My wild guess is that you have popped off an intake pipe....check all of the hoses between the turbo and the throttle for splits or loose clamps.
    • Awesome, thanks for sharing!
    • To provide more specific help, more information is needed. What Android screen? What is its wiring diagram? Does the car's wiring have power at any required BAT and ACC wires, and is the loom's earth good?
    • So, now all you need to do is connect the 2 or 3x 12v feeds into the unit to permanent 12v, ACC 12V and IGN 12V that you can find in the spot behind the stereo, and the earth, and then it will switch on with the car.
