has anyone modified their airbox to receive air from the other side of the box instead of sucking in hot air??? this is without the snorkel ofcourse.

by modifying i mean, cutting a hole on the opposite side of the standard hole on the top of the airbox.

it seems like a smart idea...

I use the snorkel which is also fed by a scoop in my air diverter. I have also cut a hole in the top (front) of the stock airbox to which I have piped cold air from behind the LH headlamp. Having recently changed to FF plenum means there is a spare hole vacated by one of the intercooler pipes and I am tossing up whether to use the LH scoop in my front bar to supply cold air to that part of the airbox or leave it as is and use the scoop to supply cold air to the brakes.

if you got the snorkel on its pointless, if you dont then you obvisouly got the old style cooler so swap it out for a turn flow and chuck ya snorkle on.

i dont have a snorkel, and i cbf changing my intercooler piping lol

Take the snorkel to a plastic welder get them to modify it so it fits with that annoying pipe going over the radiator. then refit it.

apparently has been done before... ive been meaning to look into it for ages

Not a Nissan but youll get some ideas.

You can do that but the vl box draws air out of the lid so the feed from the bottom has to go thru the filter, on a 33 it draws air from the bottom of the box so it is unfiltered unless you put a pod on the end of it.

There is also this option

I will be doing this, i got the r31 snorkle as well so i can run it down behind the headlight.

funny this thread came up , a good mate of mine (with the help of me and another good mate , jim beam) modified the air box lid to be backwards (i.e turned it around) cut out a nice factory looking hole and made a snorkel come out through the inner guard where the smic used to be , looks factory and works well apparently . pics??

thats what i ended up doing, and i blocked off the engine side hole so it wasnt sucking air from that side

    • Mixing things up - installed some leather recaros to match the leather seat covered rear seats. Interior looks pretty schmick now except for some slight wear on the steering wheel which I will monitor and address if it becomes worse or actually noticeable!

Luckily I don't have to deal with 18 year old Matt's "Learning to wire" stuff in the project cars. And there's only one piece of wiring I'm displeased about in the Landcruiser, and it's about to be cut out... However, the box loads of parts that have been going through this place lately for the Landcruiser... Brake pads Brake Rotors Full handbrake overhaul Wheel Bearings Seals Swivel hubs Steering Boxes Half the suspension joints Shocks Air bags (Ones to go in the rear springs for towing) Water pump Timing kit Lower timing case Harmonic Balancer Radiator Lots of other little seals and shits Gas struts for the bonnet New power window switches And god knows what else I've forgotten... Ha ha ha I have my fingers crossed the pinion seals don't start leaking on the diffs, that the transfer case doesn't leak, and the gearbox input shaft doesn't leak, nor the rear main seal. As they're about the only seals I haven't replaced in the driveline! I'm seriously eyeing off buying new caliper rebuild kits front and rear brake calipers... I'll probably recheck all the valve clearances soon too, and hopefully, it should be all good and sweet to haul some long distance trips again!
