Hey guys,

So ive had my s2 for about 14months and love every little thing about it, well except for one thing. When i bought the car i didn't notice any noise, but after a week i noticed a noise coming form what i believe is the front LH side (passagers side) of the car. The noise only occurs when i labor up the engine, like traveling at low speeds going around a corner/ roundabout or going over speed bumps. I had my suspicion it was the exhaust but after replacing the whole thing i still have the noise, i removed heat shields and it was still there. I also am lucky enough to have a hoist so i did a hoist drive (lift the wheels off the ground and put the car in gear) and i can't get it to make a noise. so it is defiantly caused by load. Has anyone had this type of problem before? I can't see anything rubbing or wearing.

Any help is appreciated.

I developed a sort of rattling noise when turning corners under full lock and it turned out to be my front CV shafts, this could be a possibility?

Nah i know its not the cv joints, it also makes the noise when im going straight. also ive been driving my partners car for a while and when i took my car today i realised my gearstick moves around alot more than i think it should. Might be the gearbox mount, ive got one stocked away with a heap of spare parts. ill give it a look when its on the hoist next. thanks again guys! :)

When you get to 66, you will be very happy if your gear stick still moves around a little. If it moves a lot you have got it made. LOL

upper control arm bush has become dry on seal/inserts.

I did the lube job on mine but it still squeeked. Then it went away and now resides in my tailgate. Weird.

Are you still talking about your gearstick?

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. i think you walked into that one

Alright so update:

I got under the car today and got out the lube.... can never have too much.. Lubed every bush I could see..... Im NOT being dirty here...... get your head out of the gutter...

Unfortunately I still have the problem :( My front sway bar however looks like it moves a bit. I'm having thoughts it might be this or i also noticed the front Caster arm bushes (FAST calles it the Bush-Mounting, Tension Rod) the bushes have a few stress marks in them, there not huge cracks but its not what i call nice... All the other suspension is good tho. I'm looking at getting new suspension next year any way.

So the question i need to ask is..... How many of you have replaced these? Should i Go genuine or is there a non gen version out there? My dealer will do anything i want, i can get almost any part form japan, i just need to give him parts numbers, as long as it is genuine :P I should also ask on the sway bars. I know i can just replace the bushes, simple 2 min job, but what options are there for Newer thicker ones? I will be looking at front and rear, while im at it.

Thanks guys. Sorry if these are easy to answer or i could have just searched for them. all help is appreciated tho.

    • It might be worth having a good look at the chassis behind the bumper then; most people prefer the series 2 look so it might have been changed to cheaper parts as part of an earlier repair
    • The car itself a series 2. I was just curious about the headlights and just wanted to confirm that they were series 1. Good to know the rest of the front end is series 1. It’ll be easier for me to find parts on the aftermarket side of things lol
    • If you've wired up the coils & injectors properly, & have the neo CAS loom for the trigger, it should all work. The VCT works the same way so just different plugs between s1 & neo. Assuming DBW if no IAC. Don't bother with the stock boost solenoid with g4x.
    • THERE IS NO IAT SENSOR ON ANY SINGLE TURBO RB. And the one on an RB26 is not for "engine control" - it's really too big and too slow and is only used for over-temp alarming (as far as I can tell). Anyway, you don't have one. You want/need one for the Link, then you need to buy one, find a spot for it, and wire it in. You do know that the stock boost solenoid is not capable of "control", right? It is merely on or off, for the low boost (5 psi) and high boost (7psi), which the ECU enforces mostly based on gear. The stock solenoid is not for PWM control and is not plumbed up in a way to provide it. If you want to control boost properly, then you need a proper MAC valve. And yes, you can wire either of them direct to the ECU. Well, I assume you can - I don't know what the boost solenoid pins on the plug and play Link are capable of. They really should be as capable as any normal Link - but seeing as it is plg and play, it might be limited to stock functionality. Read the doco.   You really do just want to plug stuff together without understanding how it works, right? I can't help you there. I don't know the plug types or pinning on half the stuff you're asking about. If I had to do it I would sit down with the wiring diagrams, the car/looms and a multimeter and work out what is what.
