250 rwkw would be awesome

From personal experience yes it is!!

SLY33

with internal gated turbos once the boost and power start going up u will always have the problem of the internal gate not being able to bypass enough exhaust gas to keep stable boost and keep the comp wheel spinning at the right speed.

Guys the orginal thread is here http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/sh...ead.php?t=30077 and answers some questions. Its HKS, 1800 was second hand.

Simon at morpowa says it should make at least 240rwkw if the boost would hold. My current 220rwkw is made at only 14psi.

I spoke to CAPA today about my setup and the problem with boost. He asked what cat i was using and i told him (Supercat) and straight up he said he's never known setups to work properly with these "highflow cats" due to the flow being crap resulting in too much back pressure. In his words 'i bet thats your problem'. His other suggestion was that the exh housing was too big. He asked what size it was, i dont understand this, as i thought 2530's all had the same 0.64 housing?

knore, i dont think the 2530 would hit 250rwkw, possibly a 2540 could, but if anyone has achieved this, please let me know how!

DJ Lethal, see my original thread, 230rwkw is possible with your setup. I made 227.5rwkw with the std AFM, but it would max out on cold nights/more boost. Still ok if you turned the boost down a bit if it got cold...

Got the injectors today. I really have to suss out this boost problem. I need to figure out if the turbo is too small for the top end flow, or is it the cat? I wish someone could just tell me! I can put a straight thru pipe on for testing, but then injectors are instantly on 100%. If i put in the new ones, i will have to get another FULL tune done, and if the boost problem is still there, id be wasting another 500 bucks that i dont have!

Not sure what road ill take, but right now im thinking of putting the injectors aside, save a bit, sell the 2530, and go a turbo that is proven on an RB25 so that i dont have to do anymore problem solving! Ill be going for 250rwkw this time, as it doesnt take long to get used to the power, also i might keep up with N/A on rolling runs!!

rbs13 i agree with the match for rb20. Not that its a bad thing on the rb25, even with the boost problem, but i really want to get the maximum out of whatever turbo im using.

2530 on rb25 @1bar =220rwkw with cat, 230rwkw without cat. Out of all this, that is what i've learnt!

I think that if the injectors are maxing out as soon as you take the cat out then it's almost a certain thing that the cat is to blame, or at least is a main contributor to the problem.

Is there any way of taking the cat out and doing one run? Or maybe borrow someones high flow cat for a day ? They are mega easy to get in and out of the car..

Don't give up on the 2530 - it seems like a impressive little turbo with massive amounts of response :(

Sly, try a fuel pressure reg. If you need a retune with increased fuel pressure it will be cheaper than a full remap. Also, take a look at boostworx, does good work at a reasonable price. I paid $300 for a remap off boost (light throttle and cruise at different speeds), remap at WOT, find a boost leak, replace wastegate spring and dial in the exhaust cam. Car is running alot better, and also shaun is a qualified mechanic. I wish I had found him along time ago, would have saved me a fortune.

sly what fuel pump are u running? I know of alot of people making over 250rwkws with standard injectors, standard fuel pressure and 044 bosch fuel pump. I would advise u get a 044 if u dont have on already, and buy a fpr like everyone else reckons. Then take out ur stupid cat.

Then there will b happy times for all.

i have an 044 and a tomei fpr. is boost worx in adelaide? im in sydney now. I may try CRD as N/A reckons they are wicked tuners. anyone else used them?

At the moment the injectors run mid 90%, thats why i cant do even one run without the cat, as surely i will cause damage thru leaning out?

I also think i should be able to get more fuel pressure with my setup. i will ring some places here and see what they say. Im just getting sick of throwing money at the car and not getting good results.

I would love do delete the cat, i even have the bolt in pipe sitting here, but i was told over here in sydney they can pull you over and test emissions on the spot, and if no cat = huge fine. How many of you sydney guys actually run cats?

For some reason the car doesnt feel as grunty over here in sydney, it must be different fuel characteristics or something, thats all i can think of? Back home a 40k roll on in 2nd would light the back up easily and drift down the road, but now it only accelerates, only just breaking traction, but then gripping again. Doesnt feel quite the beast it used to!

even the highest high flow cat will start to act as a restriction when u got to those figure.

I made 257rwkw at 1 bar with a GT30 and the apparent high flow cat i got now smells like rotten eggs everytime i give the car a bit of stick and u can smell it from far away.

You sure its the cat? not getting scared with the power?;):(

if i pooed my panths it would smell alot worse than rotten eggs.

Man i hat ethe rotten egg smell.

Sly, from what i have learnt about catalyic convertors, basically after aprox. 60,000km or a few years, they basically dotn work anymore. so there level of C02 is basically the same as a car without a cat. So if u did get pulled over, ensure that there looks like theres a cat there, being either a hollowed out one, or a straight pipe with the cat casing on it. If they test u and u fail, u will get another examination in which u can then put a new cat on(or in tyour case the original high flow one) and pass.

I think its only the huge fines when they see the the cat has been totally removed. So if u just make it look like its still there u should be good.

In regards to ur car, u must b making more then 230rwkws. the only thing i can think of is that ur injectors could be blocked, as i know of heaps of 33s that make really good power with stock fpr, injectors and 044 pump. Are u sure that u have an 044? (just checking :()

Hmm otherwise there must be sometihn wrong, U say your inj duty cycle will hit 100 if u took out the cat? I think start by taklin out the cat and see what happens. If it leans out more, try add more fuel. Then u should check to make sure ur injectors are not blocked, as for a 2530 setup on a 33, u will not necissarly need a/m injectors.

also maybe u should send SydneyKid a pm tellin him about ur problem. Maybe he might know something.

u shoiuld make about 250rwkws with this turbo. Hope everything works out. Cya

ive been running around at 98% duty cycle and knock is usually around 12. it might see 20, which is still heaps low. The tuner says its safe and not to worry about it! Im not worried, as im not sticking with this setup for much longer, im sussing out a bigger turbo, and already have 555cc HKS injectors.

but yeah i can have the fuel pressure bumped up with my setup and not need injectors, but that will require a trim tune- more cash but i dont think running a lower duty cycle will give me any more power. If the engine does happen to go (but compression test indicates health) then its the excuse i need to rebuild it! The tune is good, knock is always low, im thinking it will be ok... at least till i change setups.

And yeah all along ive been thinking stuff the cat, but i wasnt sure how some ppl on here would react to the whole pollution thing. Some ppl get very arcy about that stuff! I do realise the pollution benefits, and for the sake of posting on a public forum, the cats for street, straight thru for track.

Inasnt, what are the housing and turbine specs of your turbo? As ive been offered by ATS to do a highflow of my 2530 for 1800$ where they put in a GT30 core, which they say made 210rwkw at 10psi on an RB25 in QLD i think, and would comfortably make 250rwkw.

Its a custom made garrett with 0.70 comp and 0.82 rear. Mine is good for around 350rwkw+ with right engine setup.

mine made 257rwkw at 1 bar at the initial tune. Its getting tuned again next week with new cat, play with the ex cam gear and few more psi as the turbo aint in its efficiency zone yet at 1 bar.

    • I would just put EBC back on the "I would not use their stuff" pile and move on.
    • Can I suggest you try EBC directly again and link them to as many competitor catalogues as you can to show their listing is incorrect, eg https://dba.com.au/product/front-4000-series-hd-brake-rotor-dba42304/ If you have access to an R33 GTST VIN and your VIN, you could also use a Nissan Parts lookup like Amayama to show them the part number is different between 33 GTST and 34 GTT which may get their attention
    • So i got reply from EBC and they just this site where you can clearly see those 296mm fronts on R34 GTT. I send them photos and "quotes" that 296mm are not for 34 GTT and they are too small. But it will be very hard to return them cuz nobody here knows 100% and they just copy those EBC catalogue :-D https://ebcbrakesdirect.com/automotive/nissan/skyline-r34
    • Hi, is the HKS  Tower Bar still available ? negotiable ? 🤔
    • From there, it is really just test and assemble. Plug the adapter cables from the unit into the back of the screen, then the other side to the car harness. Don't forget all the other plugs too! Run the cables behind the unit and screw it back into place (4 screws) and you should now have 3 cables to run from the top screen to the android unit. I ran them along the DS of the other AV units in the gap between their backets and the console, and used some corrugated tubing on the sharp edges of the bracket so the wires were safe. Plug the centre console and lower screen in temporarily and turn the car to ACC, the AV should fire up as normal. Hold the back button for 3 sec and Android should appear on the top screen. You need to set the input to Aux for audio (more on that later). I put the unit under the AC duct in the centre console, with the wifi antenna on top of the AC duct near the shifter, the bluetooth antenna on the AC duct under the centre console The GPS unit on top of the DS to AC duct; they all seem to work OK there are are out of the way. Neat cable routing is a pain. For the drive recorder I mounted it near the rear view mirror and run the cable in the headlining, across the a pillar and then down the inside of the a pillar seal to the DS lower dash. From there it goes across and to one USB input for the unit. The second USB input is attached to the ECUtec OBD dongle and the 3rd goes to the USB bulkhead connected I added in the centre console. This is how the centre console looks "tidied" up Note I didn't install the provided speaker, didn't use the 2.5mm IPod in line or the piggyback loom for the Ipod or change any DIP switches; they seem to only be required if you need to use the Ipod input rather than the AUX input. That's it, install done, I'll follow up with a separate post on how the unit works, but in summary it retains all factory functions and inputs (so I still use my phone to the car for calls), reverse still works like factory etc.
