Difference Between R33 Gtst S1 And S2 Tps?

Recommended Posts

they physically appear different

the series 1 has an extra block with 2 extra wires, i dont know what it is used for or what it does, but it is physically different

if you go into the howto area and look at series 1 vs series 2 from memory there are more details and pics in there

Thanks mate! Had a look and its clearly a difference with one/two connectors. Form building my RB30 using a Q45 TB i remeber that it has two connectors too but i just used one, no problem.

I guess now my question is if its possible to use the S2 TPS with my S1 loom? Been reading alot and one of the posts stated that there is no problem at all, others stating that there should be.

Series 1s have an igniter pack on top of the valve cover ,it has 2 green relays that sit in the engine's harness, one for the ecu, the other for the ignitor/coils, and it shares the same coil packs as the rb20 and 26's.

Series 2 has individual ignitors built into each coil pack ( vs) one for all (series 1) which is also why it only has 1 green relay in the wiring harness which is for the ecu. and other electrical differences.

Also the MAF sensor and plug...... 3 prongs inside the MAF connection = Series 2, 5 prongs = Series 1.

TPS aka ( throttle position sensor) sensors are diffrent on S1 vs S2

and i belive that the cam angle sensor are diffret between the both.

other than that i belive thats all the diffrences between each other...... they are the exact same thing and produce the same power, same turbo ect.... other then theese diffrences listed above, its the same S@!T hahha

Not the same turbo though.. ;P The S2 is a ceramic one, the S1 is a metal piece meaning itll last longer :)

Ill have to investigate all this with the wiring to the TPS, guess ill hook up NisTune and check if it gives a correct signal, better use a low-amp fuse when testing it out so that i dont sent 12v instead of 5v to the ECU.

Not sure about the CAS wiring though, they are different but a friend of mine has got a S1.5 (non-igniter, should be S2 engine) but he has got a S1 CAS by the looks of it.

    • Yep, I really miss mine. I dont, however, miss it's understeer. Hard to find a genuine 'Sport' model these days. That sounds awesome! Good fun and great result!  I'd love to do a 1/4 in mine now that its reasonably healthy with the tune. I last did a run in my white GTR, I think it was a 12.3 and I can't remember the mph and I think the little E90 might be quicker.
    • FWIW, I made 372kW on a Mainline dyno, with a stock motor (bar head studs & usual bolt ons) on E85 (pretty timid timing in the mid range) and it blew up after a year of track use. Probably got like 5~6 Wakefield track days and 1x skid pan somewhere in between.
    • Plus, if you want to shoot for over 300rwkW, the Z32 won't really cut it and retaining the PowerFC is getting to be a poor choice. You're going to be much happier with management that can actually see what's going on and have a hope of stopping it from going bad when something breaks (think oil pump). So, the $$ situation is probably different to what you think it is.
    • 350-400kw will not keep that basically stock motor basically stock very long, especially for track only use. It will decide to need a rebuild pretty quickly. I'd go smaller, and not cheap out with a Pulsar item based on older tech. Get a G25 550/660. Just better in every way. Don't think about changing a turbo until AFTER you change your injectors (S15 injectors x6? What CC are those?) and coils/fuel pump. They won't keep up with any aftermarket turbo.
    • Hey everyone,   Probably been covered 100 times but i couldn't see anything when searching  Time has come to replace / upgrade my turbo, dont have any crazy plans for the build maybe 350 - 400kw in the future  Engine is a basically stock R33 RB25DET apart from Apexi power FC, S15 injectors, Boost controller, Z32 AFM, Cold air intake, free flow exhaust  have been looking at the Pulsar GTX3076R 0.82 will this be a good option? wont be upgrading the injectors and coils till next year then pushing for 300kw so dont want anything to laggy in the mean time, car is track only not street   TIA
