Yeap, last night driving home in the rain, some moron came towards me from the opposite direction, i had to turn left into gravel to avoid the head on, slid through gravel, into a grass ditch, slid hard left, corrected right , looked up and hit a pole :D

Hit was at about 40kmh with car on 30degree angle...

Damage looks awful, fron bar was ripped off and smashed to peices.. Bonnet is smashed in... I cbf talking about it now

Thanks for the kind words guys...

JL: Nope no one stopped and no whitnesses. Two people even drived right by while I was picking up the headlight and frontbar...

Unfortunately its not just cosmetic, the front bumper (steel bar) has taken the hit and its all smashed back a few inches, its even bent right over the intercooler piping...

Shit that is no good.

Bet you were praying for rain too.

I got hit up the back the last time we had a lot of rain but it was only cosmetic damage, no structural damage luckily.

I was so pissed off and that was only minor, so I can only imagine how you feel

Hope it all turns out for the best.

damn it!

i had chills when i read your story, because its similar to what happened to me about 3 months ago. My car is almost fixed now, i was very lucky to just do what you did but not hit a pole. In the end my little accident cost me well over $4K

But i am getting some extra bits put on aswell :D

I feel for you man, and i can honestly say, i know exactly how it feels and what your going through.

Whatever you do, dont sit there and think 'i should of done this, i should of turned this way etc etc etc' all it does is eat you up. Whats done is done, there is no changing it :D

Hope its back on the road soon,

Did it hit the IC?

Is it fixable? I hope you have insurance Smoothline. I know theirs no hope in finding the other culprit, but still. Paying $1500 in excess is better than having to fork out the extra $$ to get it fixed.

I have never actually seen your car but I've been told it was nice.

What posesses people to act like spastics in the rain??

I swear it's the female driving population that causes most of the accidents... :D (did I just open a can or worms?? :))

If you got their plates.. you can report them for "failing to stop at the scene of an accident". Its actually law that they do offer assistance, if others have not already done so.

But i'm sure you then and now have more important things to worry about.

Thanks for all the kind comments everyone, nice to see we have a great group here...

Erin: I wont be going through insurance because it's a $2000 excess and my premium would go through the roof :) So far it looks like around a $3k job... It could have been much worse.

Gordo: Nah didnt get plates, it all happened in a flash!! No one even stopped when i was in a ditch picking up peices of the car!!! Couldnt believe it...

Im pretty sore and i will be even more so tommorrow, i got flung a bit to the left...

Im sourcing out a Top Secret Front bar, so if anyone knows where I could find one let me know... I guess it saves me having the old one's cracks repaired now!

    • Sorry I haven't been following all the detail, so you may have tried this. Does it idle with the tiniest bit of throttle you can add? You've mentioned the IACV, does it have an AAC valve and have you adjusted it at all (ie, screw the idle adjust screw all the way in, then back it out a couple of turns until idle is stable)?
    • My bad, I unplugged the one underlined in red instead of yellow before. With the car started, after unplugging the IACV (the one underlined in yellow), it idled at around 400/500 for 3 seconds before stalling. Attempting to start the car without the IACV will not start the car.   It does stutter and sputter for around 5 seconds before dying. However, immediately after starting it, you can already hear some slight sputters from the exhaust.   It won't start with the AFM unplugged. If it is when the car has already started, it stalls in a few seconds.   Yesterday, I did take some logs using Nistune of 3 scenarios. Car idling till it stalls Car idling and unplugging the IACV Car idling and removing the AFM I also have some previous logs of when the Car is idling till it stalls and when driving and it cuts. I am not really knowledgeable enough to understand what to look for. After every test, car idles rougher and rougher, until I have to stop. It will be fine the day after.
    • There is no difference between a 17x8 and an 18x8. The total diameter of the tyre needs to remain +/- the same (so you don't mess up the gearing, speedo reading, and clearance when turning front wheels..... so you just need to use a lower profile tyre on th 18 than you do on the 17. /rocket surgery.
    • I thought the same to start with. But then I thought it was one of those LCAs where the end of the ARB goes through a bushing in the LCA itself, instead of having an end link.
    • Yeah - I mean, go the other way. Smaller range. Not larger.
