hey all,

I moved to mackay a month ago in hope that i could find some work but im having great difficulty,

im only 17 which could be a factor, if anyone can help it would be muchly appreciated.

Cheers

Well as a 17 year old you can either be like so many others and tell prospective employers you're fussy and don't want to do shit kicker jobs, or take on anything you can, put your heart and soul into it and show that you're a hard worker willing to do what it takes to get somewhere in the world. The second category will always get ahead in life, regardless of education and qualifications. The first category will spend the next 40 years blaming everyong else for their own failures

Which category do you want to belong to?

Until you get some runs on the board, you might have to accept the shit kicker stuff just to prove your worth.

I'd rather hire an uneducated, unqualified person who has a great work ethic, than a lazy selfsh job snob with 3 uni degrees and 4 trades under their belt.

is going back home (I'm assuming you moved out of home to mackay) and studying something an option?

as warps alluded to....change your mindset...accept the 'lower class' jobs till you get more experience and eventually know what you want to do.

look after each job you do to your utmost and most likely than not your career will look after itself.

Nothing wrong with being a TA and getting payed $26+ an hour I reakon.

I'm a Forth year diesel fitter. Operators at the mines are payed well as are TA's even in town. I dont know why your so worried about being a 'shit kicker'

as above, put in the effort and someone will notice then if one day you say "hey I want to be an electrician" or whatever, they will put you on an apprenticeship straight away.

There are heaps of jobs in mackay as long as your not fussy just check out the job thing in saturdays paper.

Try not to get focused on making the big dollars early on and try and get an apprentiship, or something like that. Even though you will be on less money straight up it will be worth it in the end. Then you can be 'picky' on what job you want.

callan im pretty desperate at the momemt, ill do anything thats not a shit kicker job. What do you do for a job?

LOL!

I argue that this is the reason why most unemployed people are unemployed, the typical "it's not worth my time to clean floors/flip burgers/deliver pizzas/drive a taxi/etc etc for under $50,000+ a year"

At the end of the day, a job is a job, any cash is better than no cash. Finally future employees will see such jobs on your resume and be like "yo this guy has done the hard yards, not sat at home chilling on the net and taking hand outs from the government"

My 2cents

In my opinion try get and apprenticeship as a diesel fitter or a electrician, if that is unsuccessful you can try become an operator, it might cost you a bit to get your tickets and training but that money will be made up pretty quickly with the pay rates around the bowen basin. I done the hard yards with tafe courses and an apprenticeship and so on, but has well and truly paid off and now as there is a massive shortage of tradesman in the area. Majority of my mates are all tradesman.

^^ this.

when I was living in airlie beach (3 years) i thought I'd struggle to get a job....I was wrong...there were heaps and I noticed mackay had heaps too...

the point is that region should have enough jobs to sustain you.

heck even if you go do window cleaning ...

I'm a Tradesman Sheetmetal Fabricator and Boilermaker... It's worth doing an Apprenticeship, dude. I'm never on any less than $30.00 an hour now.

But there are other options too, I guess. Most of Callan and my mates are apprentices, tradesmen or general labourers.

as for you 33GTRV,

AND JUST SO YOU KNOW IM NOT ON f**kING CENTRELINK ASSHOLE, IM CURRENTLY LIVING OFF MY SAVINGS WHICH I SAVED BEING AND EXCAVATOR AND BOBCAT OPERATOR I WAS ON $60k per year SO NOW f**kING WAY AM I GOING TO TAKE A JOB UNDER $50K A YEAR. • GCG is a good company, they're a major distributor for Garrett in Japan as well.
    • Nah, OEM washer bottle and brake fluid reservoirs are fine I don't know what it is with the plastic that Mazda used, some plastics, like the washer bottle and brake fluid res are fine, and still look new after 20 years use, where as the coolant expansion tank, and PS reservoir, that I replaced with new OEM items when I first got the car, turned yellow and started getting brittle a few years later If the dirty yellow stained plastics didn't trigger me there wouldn't be an issue, but they did, much like the battery bracket....... Meh As for going back to work full time to support car stuff, nope, why, because I own a Mazda NC MX5, not a Nissan R series Skyline 🤣
    • I've never heard of CJ-motor, so can't advise you on them. I'd just go straight to GCG for a GCG highflow though. Seems no point to use a middleman. I'm somewhat surprised that the price on the CJ site is lower than the GCG retail price. Even though CJ would get a discount of some sort, you would hardly expect them to give up so much margin. Maybe the price is out of date? Having said that "I'd go to GCG"...when I did my highflow, I went to Hypergear. I did this https://hypergearturbos.com/product/rb25dethighflow/#tab-dyno-results with the R34 OP6 450HP profile. With the BB centre (extra $400) and intially with the standard boost actuator, but I eventually got him to send me the high pressure one when I got to the point of being able to actually use it. Ends up costing the same sort of money as the GCG highflow, but this is, of course, the turbo that I KNOW has a shorter length core and so moves the comp cover rearwards. The GCG apparently doesn't do that. My mechanic also swears by the GCG highflow, given that we have another turbo rebuilder who does something essentialy the same as theirs, using Garrett wheels. He says it stands up at really low revs and makes good power. I haven't pushed my HG highflow past ~240-250rwkW yet (should have a little more in it, but unclear how much) and it does have a fairly gentle boost ramp. OK, it's much better now that I have gotten my boost controller tuned up on it.  A lot of my earlier unhappiness was because I couldn't keep the wastegate flap as closed as it needed to be (including some mechanical issues). I'd still prefer it to boost up nearly as quickly as the stocker, and it certainly a bit slower than that. So maybe the GCG one is worth the first look (for you).
    • Ok thanks 🙂 I will higly consider this. Any "known" company for a good reviews and experience to send that off? Is that CJ-motor good one? Or go straight to GCG site? I need to use VPN to even find some of those "shops" let alone access them 🙂
    • You can literally put in as much WMI as it takes to quench the combustion totally (and then back it off a little, obviously), and it will keep making more and more power. The power comes from the cooling effect of the water (and the meth) and the extra fuel (the meth, which also has massive octane). It is effectively exactly like running E85. One might be slightly better than the other, but they are damn close. But with either you can lean on the boost or the timing (or both) waaaay more than with just petrol and the results are similar. Here's the first thing I googled for an anecdotal bit of evidence. Can't access the attachment without being a gold member, but it is there for the getting if able to, or searched up elsewise perhaps. https://www.hpacademy.com/forum/general-tuning-discussion/show/wmi-vs-e85/
