KezR33
Hey guys, Got a mate who has a turbo model Silvia with an NA engine conversion. Problem is being an SR20DE its completely gutless. Now we don't want to spend mega bucks on an NA engine when we're only going to turbo it later, but we were wondering are there any mods that will give the NA engine addition power, but can be carried onto its turbo form. I was thinking cams, maybe an aftermarket ECU with a tune, E85... What would work? Cheers. blk94r33
-ECU -Injectors might not benefit much now but you can fit them with the ECU for later benefits -Cams, not so much, as turbo cams vary from NA cams, so you might find it restrictive down the track -Cat-back, but obviously not the front pipe -Ignition system work, depending on what the current set-up can handle -Start stock-piling turbo bits! WYTSKY
Hey Keieran, been a while Why not start saving up for turbo bits now? when are you planning to turbo it? thing is, for injectors you need ecu, dont think u can use factory turbo injectors and factory turbo ecu and plug straight in and it will run fine for now ( I could be wrong though) and then if you get a powerfc for eg with new injectors you will pay for a tune that wont really make much diff and you will have to pay for another tune down the track after turboing it.... I would just start saving for turbo bits... mad082
ecu and injectors are about all that will transfer over. exhaust won't unless you go a super loud fart cannon but that won't give you power gains on a natro (will most likely drop power). if it is gutless as you say then either you have high standards, or the engine is shagged. they aren't a super powerful engine but they are a light car so should feel ok. throw on a set of extractors and a 2.25" exhaust and above 4000rpm it should really get up and go (the missus SSS pulsar does) Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/352879-power-mods-that-will-carry-over-to-your-turbo-conversion/#findComment-5675915 Share on other sites
Gerg_R31
differences that i know of pistons run an extra 0.001" piston to bore clearance in turbo models cams the only difference is lobe seperation/ overlap which can be adjusted on twin cam motors with vernie gears valve springs as long as they can have 80 pounds of seat pressure and 0.100" more then the cam lift at installed height then they should be ok all other internal stuff wont be effected between turbo/ n/a Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/352879-power-mods-that-will-carry-over-to-your-turbo-conversion/#findComment-5677876 Share on other sites
zebra
Best bet imo is to save and buy a Factory SR20DET and ECU/Wiring and swap straight over, much better bang for buck than speding $$ on an engine you are going to change anyway.
