You actually couldn't be more wrong.

Longnose R200 in a HR31 is a 2-way mech locker, just very loose.

Few places and shims later, it's exactly the same as the Nismo item, or better if you customise it up a bit.

WTF... Are you reading the same post mate? or even the next line after the one you have quoted above?

No doubt the R31 diff is a doozy... but the R33 viscous LSD is a POS!

2 way - locked under deaccell

1.5 way - partially locked under deaccel

So 2-way & having the rear wheels turn equally going into a corner with it locked up generally will induce understeer.

Once you get over that, it will snap/insta oversteer

How do you deal with the tendency to plow on in corner entry then - I'm referring to driving style - you just got to chuck it about more?

If you aren't drifting etc, IMO 1.5

2 way is fun if you know how to use em, but very demanding.

So you're saying that?

1.5 way = ghey

2.0 way = Charles Bronson?

So what is the definitive truth re 2 way diffs? Some say it is suicide on a street car, others that is fine?:/

Is it more to do with how much lock you set it for?

I wanted a 1.5 way but ATM only 1 or 2 ways are going 2nd hand where I live.

Ok so i know sweet F A about diffs and dont profess to but my car has a kaaz 2 way and its rough as guts at low speed cornering on nice smooth concrete it chirps turning & the whole car shudders it is quite unfriendly for a daily drive. I personally havent noticed any difference in how it affects the handling though i must admit in the wet it does feel seriously slippery but i boiled that down to lotsa hp lol! BUT with 386hp on the tar my car doesnt do a great deal of wheel spinning

Never get why ppl complain about 2ways shimmed welded diffs for street i drove on weldy with 300 kw on the street for over a year and no problem if you drive properly its fine besides being abit noiser theres not much difference for everyday.

The Kaaz LSDs are noisey as fark during low speed cornering and put alot of stress on the rear subframe etc.

Some guys claim to quieten them down with LSD friction modifier but that only detracts from the performance of the LSD and is IMO ghey...

Kaaz LSDs are "off road" products designed for racing not daily driving it's as simple as that.

After I did mine I also replaced the diff mounting bushes and installed alloy lock collars on the rear subframe instead of poly pineapples - a vast improvement in rear end shuddering, axle tramp and subframe movement!

I can assure you that if you went back to a standard diff you would notice the difference - bigtime with 386HP!

My Kaaz LSD improved my lap times by over 1 sec @ Sandown simply because I could get more power to the ground earlier on corner exit and therefore reach higher speeds on the straight etc. It is also much easier to control the car in a power over-steer (i.e. drift) situations and in general.

The best thing you can do for a KAAZ is to run an 85w140 or similar LS oil. The 80w90 that they come with is just a run in oil and way too thin, creates heaps of noise when the oil warms up a bit.

Also, when going around corners at low speed (daily driving etc.), you can either hold the clutch in so it just coasts around the corner silently, or with clutch out give it plenty of throttle so that the tyres start chirping instead of the diff chattering. It's slipping the clutch around a low speed corner that causes the most chatter because you are power on / power off.

both me and a mate have OS giken 2 ways in our cars...

his.. unknown how long its been in, or when the oil was last changed..

i ordered my diff from otomoto in sydney, had to be shipped out from japan,

i am using the genuine oil... 80/250w grade oil , seriously thick!!

my mates one... chatters and makes noise like crazy.. mine is still quiet!

it has started to get a bit noiser now, but that could also be put down to the fact i just added solid metal subframe bushes and diff bushes.

getting use to the diff is easy... first time i drove it after fitting it ,was at a track day at wakefield.. just had to adjust the way i drive.. on the street i dont notice any real difference, coming out of round abouts is a bit more fun under acceleration as it feels alot better.

each to their own..

    • From there, it is really just test and assemble. Plug the adapter cables from the unit into the back of the screen, then the other side to the car harness. Don't forget all the other plugs too! Run the cables behind the unit and screw it back into place (4 screws) and you should now have 3 cables to run from the top screen to the android unit. I ran them along the DS of the other AV units in the gap between their backets and the console, and used some corrugated tubing on the sharp edges of the bracket so the wires were safe. Plug the centre console and lower screen in temporarily and turn the car to ACC, the AV should fire up as normal. Hold the back button for 3 sec and Android should appear on the top screen. You need to set the input to Aux for audio (more on that later). I put the unit under the AC duct in the centre console, with the wifi antenna on top of the AC duct near the shifter, the bluetooth antenna on the AC duct under the centre console The GPS unit on top of the DS to AC duct; they all seem to work OK there are are out of the way. Neat cable routing is a pain. For the drive recorder I mounted it near the rear view mirror and run the cable in the headlining, across the a pillar and then down the inside of the a pillar seal to the DS lower dash. From there it goes across and to one USB input for the unit. The second USB input is attached to the ECUtec OBD dongle and the 3rd goes to the USB bulkhead connected I added in the centre console. This is how the centre console looks "tidied" up Note I didn't install the provided speaker, didn't use the 2.5mm IPod in line or the piggyback loom for the Ipod or change any DIP switches; they seem to only be required if you need to use the Ipod input rather than the AUX input. That's it, install done, I'll follow up with a separate post on how the unit works, but in summary it retains all factory functions and inputs (so I still use my phone to the car for calls), reverse still works like factory etc.
    • Place the new daughterboard in the case and mount it using the 3 small black rivets provided, and reconnect the 3 factory ribbon cables to the new board Then, use the 3 piggyback cables from the daughterboard into the factory board on top (there are stand offs in the case to keep them apart. and remember to reconnect the antenna and rear cover fan wires. 1 screw to hold the motherboard in place. Before closing the case, make a hole in the sticker covering a hole in the case and run the cable for the android unit into the plug there. The video forgot this step, so did I, so will you probably. Then redo the 4 screws on back, 2 each top and bottom, 3 each side and put the 2 brackets back on.....all ready to go and not that tricky really.      
    • Onto the android unit. You need to remove the top screen because there is a daughterboard to put inside the case. Each side vent pops out from clips; start at the bottom and carefully remove upwards (use a trim remover tool to avoid breaking anything). Then the lower screen and controls come out, 4 screws, a couple of clips (including 3 flimsy ones at the top) and 3 plugs on the rear. Then the upper screen, 4 screws and a bunch of plugs and she is out. From there, remove the mounting brackets (2 screws each), 4 screws on the rear, 2 screws top and bottom and 3 screws holding in the small plates on each side. When you remove the back cover (tight fit), watch out for the power cable for the fan, I removed it so I could put the back aside. The mainboard is held in by 1 screw in the middle, 1 aerial at the top and 3 ribbon cables. If you've ever done any laptop stuff the ribbon cables are OK to work with, just pop up the retainer and they slide out. If you are not familiar just grab a 12 year old from an iphone factory, they will know how it works The case should now look like this:
    • Switching the console was tricky. First there were 6 screws to remove, and also the little adapter loom and its screws had to come out. Also don't forget to remove the 2 screws holding the central locking receiver. Then there are 4 clips on either side....these were very tight in this case and needed careful persuading with a long flat screw driver....some force required but not enough to break them...this was probably the fiddliest part of the whole job. In my case I needed both the wiring loom and the central locking receiver module to swap across to the new one. That was it for the console, so "assembly is the reverse of disassembly"
