Seeming there's some people in here who know a bit about race style suspension, what do people think of the UAS R32 front-upper arms?

Have heard magical things about them & expected them to be the first thing mentioned when I came in here...

they are a great idea. the downside is they are a tough design to make work. that is i'm not sure how much if any play will develop in them. dave loftus has used a set. I haven't used any personally myself yet so I honestly don't know. but the idea is sound.

as for the isc gear being same as other chinese stuff? no comment..... i haven't used it.

the entry level jap stuff is not so expensive these days. (most of) the cusco bits are good quality and very functional and not too expensive.

and what drj81 said about rear bushes. the only reason i didn't go that way is by the time you buy bushes for the inner and outer mounts, have them fitted, fark around adjusting them (as he said outers pretty much impossible on car with wheels on) and then find at your ride height you STILL have too much camber, you could have just bought adjustable arms (like cusco) for similar money that last well and give more adjustment. the only thing to be aware of is they do of course give more NHV vs bushes but it's never really bothered me too much.

For budget conscious times I have shortened OEM upper links and fitted good teflon spherical bearings into them.

Cut a circlip groove in the mill at both ends, machine up a spacer for the center that allows the sphericals to move still. Fit the spacer and sphericals then fit the circlips at each end to hold it together. Also needs alloy spacers on the outside.

I modify original mounting brackets by elongating the holes in the mill then welding the right size washer over the elongated hole in the new corrected position.

It's worth mentioning if ever your using sphericals or rose joints use Teflon lined ones. Just about every Jap arm has a cardboard lined spherical/ rose joint.

When you put them under load and they wear the cardboard lining gets pushed out of the joint leaving massive clearance issues.

so are those adjustable nismo arms actually nismo

cause i have a set in my shed

yeah twinkle toes. the silver ones with the black bushes and sliding adjustment be nismo. price just gone up 100%! lol.

Hi Guys,

Ollie and I ended up buying some Ikeya gear to start with - Front Upper and Lower arms, Rear Upper arm and Traction Rod. We figured this was a reasonable start and will figure out what we need to add in the not so distant future (Probably the Ikeya rear lower arms, a Cusco HICAS delete [currently just running a bar] and then figure out sway bars/bushes etc).

While we are installing the front upper arms, is it worth modifying the upper mounting brackets to "Nismo Spec" as mentioned by Risking? What are the adjustments that need to be made to do this?

Cheers

    • A few small updates since the previous post and lessons. I decided to do a little interior light upgrade on the 110. I quite like the iilumo items, even if they're a bit of a premium over other brands. You'll also note the Stedi Fogs, that will go into the S15 fog lights as I needed to match the bulbs since I got the new ones earlier. I hope they fit as the body is quite a bit longer than your normal bulb.  Annoyingly, I managed to trip the fuse, which normally wouldn't be an issue until I located the fuse. I can't say I've ever come across this. I had lucked out that someone nearby had a spare, but oddly enough Toyota dealerships seem to keep this in stock. I ordered some to keep in my stash and as luck would have it, someone else nearby tripped the same fuse so I passed on the favour.  I also did a little service on the 110 ahead of some additional work coming up. It's been annoying that Goleby's stopped carrying this particular HKS filter for the 110, so now I need to keep them on order from Japan. I also took the opportunity to install a bash plate and number plate riser. The plate riser is such a cheap but nice fix to help really tidy up the car. I'm tempted to now also replace my headlights, on this car. Both items were from Project Aero.    I also needed to replace the rear tyres on the 110, and after trying to get it aligned learnt that I need to replace some bushes in the front end, so that's next.  Closing out this update with a nicer picture as always!
    • Yeah mate, never miss it.
    • Any going to watch World Time Attack at SMSP this year?
    • Appreciate the correction on the "ground", that will make a huge difference to looking at this. That makes complete sense about AF70/AF71 which is what I had come down to being the issue, one of these. I'll have another look in the ignition wiring when I get a chance next week. I'll also make up a jumper wire for running that AF73 test.  ECU is fine, relay itself is fine, pump harness is fine and the pump itself is fine. I am going to upgrade the Walbro 255 anyway with a DW300 I have since I need to replace the fuel sender and I'm going to upgrade the FPR with my chasebays kit ready for new plenum/injectors/dbw, but I'll get this working first. That's why this is so frustrating.
