to post a couple of updates

car was seen again on thursday (by me) and followed for a good 40mins. police were informed and caught up with the car. it had been involved in a high speed chase / armed hold up(s) about a month or so back, and when i saw it, it had just been picked up from the impound yard. a few things happened and the car was let go

tyson had a phonecall this arvo to inform him the car was in an impound lot and we're heading up tomorrow morning to pick it up :)

Good to hear that the car hasn't been torched. If the car in question is the car from the pic off facebook that posted up matty, then it doesn't look too bad to be honest

that is the one krishy

its safely back in his possession as we speak

was up at 3:30am to drive up to Port Pirie to retrieve the car. Theres a few things not exactly perfect with the car, but it is intact overall. Apparently the same guy from the Advertiser that interviewed him after the theft (and police bungles thereafter) is going into his work tomorrow and interviewing him again for another article, so stay tuned :)

long story behind it all, apparently the "rebirth" was that good the numbers checked out to the guy they pulled over....and didnt look at the chassis number stamped in the firewall next to the plate that would more than likely have been completely different

im surprised in your description of their roadside "looksie" that it didnt even get defected

you're not wrong

quick copy paste from kev

2 months of agony to be exact. and yes i havent seen him this happy since it was unlawfully taken.

HUGE thanks to Matty T for the 3.30am trip to port pirie this morning (about 4 hours out of adelaide for the interstaters) to pick her up. I've been awake since 10am saturday, completely ****ed, sick as a dog but it was totally worth it to see the smile on my best mate's face when we drove into the impound lot.

Also everyone's support and reports leading up to the seizure of the car from the police. Every step of it bought us closer to recovering it.

She needs a bit of TLC but Tys is keen to keep her and bring back the former glory. A good result but an unfortunate delay from police action, there will be another article in The Advertiser in a day or two.

Most of it is still there, the entire stereo system was stripped out but not much else seems to be missing. also the starter motor is completely ****ed and it has to be push started but it still runs.

as for the insurance, yes he had insurance. it'll now be assessed for whats missing / damaged and money will also be claimed for this through victims of crime

    • What are you planning to do specifically?  I would be very surprised if you need to learn any math for these 'few builds' you have planned for the future.
    • I transferred from full time service to Army Reserve, so I still have access, work has been super keen to get me in to work in the OPS realm, so just turning up to use the gym......and ovens, isn't causing any issues, apart from me needing to keep on telling them that I won't be doing any reserve days until I get my joint in Goulburn sorted  Basically I can now work whenever I want, for how long I want now, and it's all tax free Next time we have some fires or floods you might see me covered in mud, or cutting sick in some plant equipment cleaning up, the Reserves love getting in the news, LOL
    • Final finish outcome of 80°c was typical to the pics, I've turned the oven down to 50°c and will pick them up after the gym tomorrow  The before and after difference was amazing, the wrinkle paint has covered all of the casting marks completely It did take a couple of hours to key it all and get in all of the crevices, but, for me it was time well spent for the final outcome, but I have all the time in the world to do it at the moment  Ended up with 4 coats, each sprayed at different angles to get optimal coverage and thickness As for the fixtures and intake box thingo that hasn't made it, the supplier is apparently posting the fixtures, and, are now sending a different CAI that is in stock The replacement CAI is actually better than what I originally ordered, but will require a pod filter that locates under the front bar, still serviceable, but it basically removes the whole OEM filter box and ducts into the front bar, so filter cleaning will require ramps and the removal of some front bar undertray, not a war stopper, just some ramps and an additional 10 minutes work every few months From looking at it it is made from alloy pipe from the throttle body, through the CAI hole in the rad support, then right turning under the bar, luckily the wrinkle paint was on special and I got 2 cans for $30ish, so the alloy will get the same wrinkle treatment as the intake manifold, hopefully it turns up soon, either way, the car will be getting booked in soon, if the parts aren't here, I'll just get MX5 Mania to " make it work"
    • I'm so glad base security is so high. I see they stopped some random codger from being able to just wander in off the street... 😛   PS, intake looks good!
    • So far so good, another hour and their done
