ok, well aware this gets asked alot but there is to many variables. looking at either turbo in .82 IW patterm. im after 250-270ish with obvoiusly the most response possible, without having to cram boost in to make power. .Car has standard cams and will do so for a while.

1. assuming all variables are the same. what would be the spool difference between the two turbos at 1 Bar. (my reading is leading me towards 3071 is 3500ish, 3076 is 4000ish...correct?)

2. which one did you choose and are you happy with it?

these turbos seem to be the main two that pop up in discussion, but most are .63 ex gate. have spoken to garret, MTQ and the person tuning my car and have all confused me even more.

any help is appreciated, as i cant make up my mind

lol, thanks simon. i thought i might get some non biased opinion here rather than the 3076 bashing from andrew and luke.

well you've had the 2 turbos, admittedly with different rear housings. what would you go for?

also when i popped down to MTQ, the 3071 now comes with the anti surge front cover :worship:

Both .63 rear though. And I dong want to run IW with the .63 due to the bOost issues. Also simon, could the response differences have something to do with e85?

If the lag is only a few hundred rpm. Then I'd just go the 76 for the head room. But getting up around 300rwkw is getting to be pretty useless for a daily/ curcuit car

:ermm: I dunno what threads you've been reading here but almost all the results here are ALL .82 and -IW

3071 is the turbo you want for 270rwkw. The 3076 is 280-300rwkw on PULP, 330rwkw on E85

Get the .82, be happy.

It's been discussed 100's of times here now and i really cbf'd typing much more about it. Go search if you want to see all the threads.

thanks. but from my reading and lengthy discussions with garret and their distributors, they cant offer an answer either other than go with the .82.

have you had experience with either turbo or just been reading on here?

that seems to be the way im looking at it. but then threads like this

http://www.skylinesa...ge__hl__3071+82

make the 71 seem the go.

thats my old car :)

go the 71 if yr goal is 270kw, its an awesome turbo

no point in having extra lag if the 71 will comfortably make that power

but be beware, you will want more power! they always do

I've had a 3040 in the past.

And as i said, there is that much info in the pages here, i cannot see why you'd even need to ask Garrett.

I don't think there is as much info as you think regarding the .82 IW. Have only found a few of each. thanks for the helpful post usmair, that's the experience I'm looking for.

I rang garrett for an opinion. Seems quite logical to me. 3040 isn't really relevant here. But thanks. I've also received info on 3082, also not really what I'm looking at

Thanks

If you don't want to cram boost into it then surely the 0.82 housing is the go. To make an each bet, order the 52 trim comp GT3076. GCG have them.

(edit: Ash's comparison to a GT3040 is valid as we are talking the same turbine and housing with a bigger compressor so anything smaller like a 71mm or 76mm comp will be even better)

Yeah .82 is a definate. Mostly due to not wanting to cram boost and the IW not liking the .63. My main question is how much earlier the 71 will come on than the 76. I've even read here that the 76 may come on earlier

Confusing stuff when your actually Trying to buy a product. And fwiw the price difference between 71 and 76 was $20 through mtq. I lold.

Well a lot of people used to think that the conventional , ie pre GTX , GT3071R was not really an ideal match of compressor to turbine as in getting the GT30 turbine to spin the 71mm compressor fast enough .

I've alwasys thought that the GT30 turbines trim size is a little big in this instance and its not someting you can get around by changing the turbine housing from say 0.82 to 0.63 A/R .

Also from what I've seen Garrett didn't seem to want to fit the port shrouded version of the T04E compressor housing on the GT3071R until the GTX version became available .

There are a couple of choices you have and one is the GTX3071R and the other the mid compressor trim version of the GT3076R ie 52 rather than the more usual 56 trim size .

I'd do some searching on what results people are getting from the GTX3071R .

A .

Thanks. I did look into the gtx3071. However mtq in sa said they have only sold a couple and haven't heard back from people. Even in the US it doesn't seem people ate spending the money on the gtx. At the end up the day I can't imagine power near 300rwkwwould be easy to put down in a street car

Joeyjoejoeshabadoo (sp) seems to be the ideal Case for 3071 (admitantly 2835 .67 or something). Making 260ish at 1 bar. Full boost about 3300. Sounds perect in theory

    • I've been building a 26/30 for a few years now. I've had the head built with all the good stuff. I had a 32 gtr but blew it up and yes its all going into a vl but im looking for some advice from some RB nuts on pros and cons on putting a 26 head on a 30 bottom end is it worth it Works are as follows Head -Extensive porting 1mm oversized supertech valves Supertech double springs Supertech valve guides Supertech titanium retainers Tomei solid lifters Tomei 270 x 10.25 cams Head drain Bottom end series 2 rb30 block Cp ceramic coated pistons Eagle rods Romac balancer Oil restrictions  O ringed blah blah spent a fortune And will get a girdle because the 30s arent used to handling that much rpm Nitto billet oil pump Hypertune plenum 6boost mani Refurbed astra pump thats the cover for it in the boot I did have a precision 6262 but sold it because drag car life. Currently building the ass end full 4 link floater rear end with a 2 speed  But the dilemma i have is my mate rekens I should just stick with the 30 head for reliability. Has any one had any issues with mounting the 26 head ie compression blowing gaskets etc. Just looking for some advice from people who have gone down this route. Here's some photos. Blew the oil pump in the gtr and decided to rip the motor out at the time and do a full build only to find it had been a repairable write off so went down this path.

    • lol no cats running str pipes … might put the high flow back on but I suspect it might effect my ignition timing a bit.
    • That looks a bit like yellowing to me. If the rear bar was looking like that from rich idle, I'd ask the question, do you have a catalytic converter fitted, and fully working?
    • Oh yeah gets really bad down here. I’ll have to upgrade the heater and wind screen wipers as well for optimal performance.
