Hi Guys,

just wanted to know what is teh difference on the turbos for GTR33??

I was looking at this one below from ebay; http://cgi.ebay.com.au/R33-GTR-Turbos-N1-Steel-Turbine-RB26-R32-R34-changeover-/120487485104?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item1c0d9d1eb0

R33 GTR Turbos N1 Steel Turbine RB26 R32 R34

and comparing to the -5 or -7

my aim is to get about 300kW on standard engine, power FC, adj cams and bleed valve....atm it is doing 265kW

help me guys, im confused....reason i want to go with the "R33 GTR Turbos N1 Steel Turbine RB26 R32 R34" is because they are cheap.....

Mind you to get a set of -9 with actuators you would be looking at $2700 being more than double the $1250.

Sure they might be a bit laggier than stock but I would think they could put down around 280-300rwkw without too much hassle.

I dunno I am curious too hear about these. I have a set of -9's waiting to go in but I was seriously considering these initially.

When could you expect 1 bar boost with these? around 4500-5000 rpm?

Basically -5 response (4500rpm before anything really happens)

With -7 power

Pretty poor IMO when the -7s are on almost 1000rpm sooner

1000rpm less response with 60-80rwkw less… The extra 1500 is worth it. Best value for money modification.

It’s also power delivery in/out of gears as well. Not what it makes on a loaded up dyno run.

Hey Ash, you always seem to know the g-o with forced air induction. I'm currently getting my 31 worked on at Chasers. It's a stock RB30ET using stock intake manifold, getting a new GT-3586, 45mm ext. wastegate, 3" exhaust, running a gtr cooler (not sure exact dimensions but big). I know i'm going to be making good power but what sort of spool time / response / lag do you think I will be looking at?

Cheers,

James

have a look at calaisturbo.com dude, that's pretty much the standard combo over there ;)

been 8years since I've really looked at 30et results.

stock exhaust manifold and cams will be your issues though with that turbo/motor combo. you need a bit of cam to get the ole SOHC working with a 35

Ook, cool, cheers. I didn't pick the turbo as I have no idea.....also getting ecu and fuel upgrades atm......plans to DET in future with 30 bottom end.

Not even sure of the turbo I blew up (bent shaft), people told me it looked like a factory 33gtr. Used to be spooled up @ 2000rpm in 2nd, 2800 in 4th, and pulled quite hard at 14lbs to redline, where possible, within limits of course. So quite punchy, and nice to drive. I'm worried it's gonna lag like a pig atm, but Chasers think that it'll be fine once tuned.

Thanks for your input.

Power vs lag = it'll be laggy with that turbo. No two ways around it regardless of what people tell you.

You can't bolt on a 700hp turbo and expect response :)

If you had some head work, cam, exhaust manifold and a 3.5-4" exhaust you'd make 350-370rwkw and this would obviously offset the lag in that respect. However my stab in the dark will be 300rwkw depending on how much boost can be wound in. Which is what a 3076 would have done :)

See how it goes either way.

Sweet, will do. If all goes to plan, you should see it next Sunday, providing its all together by then. The Haltech Sports 2000 is in and wired up, just stuffing around with cooler, exhaust & dump pipe, then tune. Worried that clutch won't hold up for dyno tune, if so my car wont be there.

Hey mate, did you used to hang around reservoir in the last couple of years. I have seen another orange 33 looks identical from what I remember. Haven't seen the car in over 18months. Not sure what the plates were, but basically, used to 'CR33M' every time I seen it. Coincidence? (havent seen any other orange 33's)

Wasn't me mate. There is some guy up there that has a similar looking car to me. But think he has a top secret kit, no carbon lip spoiler and had a orange bonnet.

    • Yeah, so widen your search to any Nissan speedo first, then go wider if needed. I will say though, that there is a better than even chance that what I said first will likely come into play. They quite possibly won't come apart without damage. I tried to disassemble a stepper gauge that I wanted to repair. There was no way that needle was coming off the spindle, and I could not see how the spindle would come out of the mechanism behind. Assembled once, never to be disassembled, was my conclusion. Could be the same on the R34 cluster. Failing that - take the cluster to a workshop that specialises in automotive instrument work. There's usually at least one in every Australian city. They'll either be able to do it for you for small cost, or tell you it can't be done. It might be that "it can't be done" unless you follow some arcane procedure, including trickiness to glue it back together or something, that only experienced techs know.
    • Well, given that I, an engineer, almost never bring out the torque wrench to tighten up chassis bolts, despite fully knowing the theory, and instead rely on feel, which I happen to know is exactly how the majority of mechanics do things, should tell you the level of actual peril that exists from not achieving exactly 88 Nm of torque. How about if I just say then that 88Nm is at the lower end of the correct wheel nut torque range? Everyone knows how to tighten a wheel nut, right? And almost no-one ever brings out the torque wrench for that task
    • Don't be ridiculous. "2-3 ugga duggas or one Oof. You have to use Oof on tie rods because you can't get an ugga dugga on there." Is not helping the guy at all.
    • I have done a lot of research before posting here and on gtruk forum. couldn't find anything. I have my gauges all part except the needle itself. the needle has a extremely small hole in the center, but the shaft going to the needle is extremely small and appears to have nothing to index it either. doesn't seem strong enough to simple pry or pull without damaging something. Already tried the old spoon trick on a extra triple meter I have from a gtt, but no luck. the center cap comes off easily but the hole in the meter face plate aren't big enough to get over the needle itself. figured this would be my best place to find someone who might have actually removed theirs. wonder if there is some type of small pin press tool to push the pin in while pulling the needle base off.
    • Ok...its taking me long enough to finally do this.  Feck financial security...heart disease will get me soon enough anyway So welcome to the garage..."Clem" Belsil80 has been running a 370Z in Super TT series. So after entering with him in last years Winton 300 i figured I  need my own car. Seems SAU Vic race cars need to be yellow....{tick} Reckon with enough motor i will be able to make up for the lack of talent and stay ahead of the 370Z... but the LS powered S13 and E36s are a ways up the road Aim is to have a car that doesnt stop or turn but has a bit of shed built motor with jam...maybe some cream  First step is getting this ex drift car log booked I am keeping faithful silver car. As the road-club car gets upgrades the race car wil get the sloppy seconds
