Hi there!

Unfortunately I am to replace the turbo on my sisters R34 GTT (RB25). The new turbo doesn't have any water cooling so I was just wondering... what should I do with the water-piping? Should I keep them connected, thus letting the water circulate through them... or can I remove the pipes and plug the holes?

Any ideas would be most appreciated!

I probably have a few more questions later on too as I move along, that new turbo of hers doesn't seem to fit in naturally anywhere lol.

Thx for the really quick replies! :thanks:

It's called IRX450... at least the exhaust-flange seems to be right... but the compressor housing is too big and touches the exhaust manifold, but I think I can solve that with a couple of extra flanges in between and some longer bolts. Also I need to turn the compressor housing in an angle that doesn't allow the wastegate-vaccuum-thing to align with the wastegate-arm-thing, so I need to make modified linkage between them... ah well, that's for later tho.

Ok, then I shall remove the water piping and plug it... just to really make sure/double check... it's not going to block any other essential circulation right?

Ah yea, worry not! Because if I manage to fit that turbo there's a Link G4 unit, a new intercooler, 530cc injectors, walbro fuel pump and a new clutch in a box right next to the car... and I'm supposed to have it all done and fitted til april 17th... which is when she's got a time for mapping... *sigh* :ermm:

Just curious; if one were to only fit that turbo and run the car on all the original settings... what would happen? Would it boost too hard? Run lean?

Is that your GT-T in the picture? It looks nice, hers is black. GT-R spoiler and alloys, no?

Yeah its mine, cheers. Just GTR wheels, gtt spoiler.

I imagine it would run rich as fark and hit r&r with very little boost. Although I hasn't googled what that turbo is, so it's anyones guess. But it'll drive around alright as long as the foot doesn't hit the floor...

Glad to hear ya have the supporting mods to go with it :)

car will not run / be drivable with no tune and injectors fitted

car would run and be drivable with everything else fitted . do not get it on boost. eg driving to dyno place

you called it a link . where bouts in nz are you ?

Good luck with the upgrade, hope your sister has many cases with which to pay!

Thanks I'll prolly need it hehe, wow... it took a lot of heat to lose the manifold studs. Sorry for being slow, what sorta cases?

Ic ic, that sort of makes sense, I guess they'd let out more fuel. We'll probably take the car on a trailer to the dyno place for good measure.

I'm in Scandinavia actually, sorry for barging in on a aussie forum like this. There's a native Skyline forum around, but since it's a relatively rare car here, it's a small community... so it might be aeons before anyone replies.

Just another quick question... I'm going to refill the coolant now - is there anything I need to do to get the air out of the system or does it take care of that on its own?

After filling it with coolant you need to make the radiator the highest point on the car so the air can get out, otherwise you will get airlocks. Very simple, just undo the radiator cap and jack the front of the car up. Then cut a 2L coke bottle (or similar) in half and put it in the radiator hole. Keep topping the coolant up until all the bubbles have stopped (shouldn't take too long).

+1

Maru you're just topping up the coolant, not doing a flush right. That's a bit more involved...

...and now the head gasket is blown! lol

Sorry for jolting this old thread, just felt it sort of added to the story this way.

Obviously I've been summoned for this repair, since it's very labor intensive and would cost a lot in any shop, and I have til friday to do it. unsure.gif

Was just wondering if anyone could give me directions to a good "replace RB25 head gasket" thread/site?

A few questions that instantly comes to mind is torque settings, order in which to tighten the head, can I leave the intake and exhaust manifolds on, other good to know things.

    • Hi...so a "development" here aswell The swap is "done" and car went "test drive" BUT it seems the clutch(maybe gearbox?) is a little bit sad? I bought this clutch kit https://justjap.com/products/xtreme-heavy-duty-organic-clutch-flywheel-kit-nissan-skyline-r31-r32-r33-push-type "Problem" is that the first gear is hard to put into and it seems that the clutch is not disengaged. It was not the problem with the old clutch...(or like sometime the first gear would not get as easy specialy when the fluid was cold) So? Can it be like...bad "install" or is the clutch wrong ((it should not have been) i done research to get the right one) Or is this "normal" with new clutch and needs to be break in?
    • @Duncan I can try  and thanks i did not thought about VIN and part numbers for 33/34. @GTSBoy yeah it looks like iam gonna do that
    • Forgot to include this but this is the mid section of my steering rack that looks like it has a thread/can be turned with that notch mentioned in the post:
    • Hey everyone, Wanted to pick some brains about this issue I'm having with rebuilding my 33 rack (PN is 49001-19U05). All of the tutorials/videos I've seen online are either R34 or S Chassis racks which seem to be pretty straightforward to disassemble but this process doesnt carry over to my rack. Few of the key differences that I've noted The pinion shaft on the other racks bolt on with 3 torx bolts: Whereas my rack bolts on with 2 allen head bolts: These changes are pretty inconsequential but the main difference is how you pull the actual rack out of the housing. The other skyline/s chassis racks can be taken out by tapping the rack out of the body with a socket and it just slides right out. I'm unable to do that with my rack because there's a hard stop at the end that doesn't let the seal/shaft be tapped out. Can also see a difference in the other end of the rack where mine has a notch that looks like you're able to use a big wrench to unthread 2 halves of the rack whereas the other racks are just kinda set in with a punch. My rack: Other racks: TLDR; Wanted to know if anyone has rebuilt this specific model of steering rack for the R33 and if there were any steps to getting it done easier or if I should just give this to a professional to get done. Sorry if this post is a bit messy, first one I've done.
    • I would just put EBC back on the "I would not use their stuff" pile and move on.
