USB 3.0 uses a different chip on the board, IIRC. it's possible that routing through that board is making the PS3 not understand.

It's like a WD external I got recently, the 2.5" 1Tb: the board on that goes direct to USB 3.0, so it has something called WD SES that needs to be installed, basically a SCSI interface driver of some sort. Maybe the PS3 doesn't like that at all..?

You could be right. It's a Samsung and it likes to launch Kies every time I hook it in. I don't allow it to but yeah.

So by using a USB 2.0 cable, I'm guessing it bypasses the USB 3.0 functionality... Seeing as the 2.0 cable doesn't plug into the extended section of the port.

getting back to the YLOD fixes, this happened to me last year with my original 60gb phat console and it sat around for 4-5 months before i learned how to fix it.

the re-flow method worked for me but only lasted another 2 weeks, then the 2nd time i fixed it it lasted 2-3 months and i had cranked the heat gun up way hotter that time, the mobo was actually bending under it's own weight but straightened back out as it cooled.

from memory it only lasted a couple days the 3rd time and then didnt work at all after the 4th so i cut my losses there and bought a new slim.

what really shits me is how sony have made it absolutely 100% impossible to back up your data manually by taking the hard drive out to get the data off. the ONLY way to read your save games etc is using the EXACT console that that the hard drive was formatted with.

any other PS3 other will not read your hdd.

you cannot read it using a PC.

the only real way to guarantee your stuff gets backed up is to:

A: regularly back up all your saves to a usb flash drive (my favourite option) or external hdd.

B: get a PSN Plus membership, which lets you back up your saves online so sony holds all your data for you.

thats about the only potentially valuable feature of plus if you ask me. other than that its just a few free themes/avatars (lame) and waste of time really small discounts (5-10%) off SOME dlc items/games. for what it costs.. total waste of money IMO

You seriosuly can't just move the HDD to another PS3? That's harsh and I was annoyed when I found out my brother's original version xbox wouldn't read the USB stick I use on mine. You can just swap the HDDs though.

Yeah I agree. The backup process in the ps3 is of the ghey.

If anything, allow it to be swapped into another ps3 and just have some sort of password security rather than being forced to back up into portable storage and having to format the hdd...

That's the only way to back up to another medium.

A way to use the network is if you have two ps3's and transfer the data from one to the other. This then deletes everything off the original ps3. And it's also the only method where EVERYTHING copies over.

I installed everything into my new ps3 from the back up and all of my demos and games stored on it are no longer there. Videos n music remains though.

Yeah thought as much. I suppose it would take away from the ps plus feature of saves being backed up automatically if you could do similar for free.

Demos and games aren't really an issue as you can just re download them, albeit a waste Internet usage. But it would suck to loose all my saves.

    • So yes. All of them. Something like 98% of all fuel in the USA has 10% ethanol: https://afdc.energy.gov/fuels/ethanol-fuel-basics It's labelled as like, AKI, 87, 91, 93 with an E10 or E5 or E15 label on the pump. At a certain point, it's not just "E10" instead of 91. It is 91, 95, 98, and all of them have 10% Ethanol in them. You can also get E85 and E30 which is why you do see some people rolling around with E30 tunes in them.
    • Thanks for the response. This is an 04 EP3 Type R. JDM spec. Fairly certain they're just basic BC racing coils. I do plan to keep as the ride quality on stock I've been told is pretty meh given Sydney roads. If I were to go down that avenue, does NSW require them to be a certain spec (close to original) etc?
    • Should have asked what is the car?
    • I've had two super conflicting experiences with blue slips. My 30 year old E39 waltzed through with no issues but my brother in law was knocked back on 12 y/o 3 series due to wiper blades and some cracking in a control arm bush.  What kind of coil overs? Do you want to keep them after?  If it was me I'd get some dirt cheap shocks and springs from eBay or scumtree. Not ideal but will get you over the line and might even be less than $1k.
    • Hey guys,  Way back when (about 15yrs plus), I picked up a beautiful set of Tein 'Super Racing Spec Circuit Master RE' coilovers from Russman. I have legit never fitted them to my car, as it was garaged indefinitely while i bought a house Yada Yada. They look brand new! Anyway its time to pick up where I left off, and have started doing some khanacross and am booked in for a hill climb next month. The car has some hard af Nismo shocks in ATM, which has me wanting to upgrade again, and now I am left wondering if it's worth having these teins rebuilt? I think they where an ok shock back then, but how do they compare to what's on the market now?  Shockworks/mca are 2800+, and I am sure they are great. But if I can have these rebuilt and be better than, say, a set of bc's for around the cost of bc's, I would be happy with the performance v cost trade off.  If they are considered outdated and rubbish these days, so be it, I'll put them on the shelf and be happy to look at the pretty green colour while I save for the SW/MCA option. Grateful for your thoughts on the matter, and suggestions on who could do the rebuild if it's a worthwhile pursuit.  cheers, Rowdy.
