I just picked my self up a 93 GTS-t and just want to ask a couple of questions about the petrol tank.

Firstly the needle seems to be up and down sometimes so Im not sure how accurate it is so I'm wondering how many km on average I should get on a full tank?

Second when I start it up you can hear a sucking sound from the petrol tank and see fumes coming from the filling tube and im just wondering if thats normal?

I bought my R33 GTS-t bout 4 months ago so I am a relative noob at this too.

Well I have never heard a sucking sound, and never thought to look back at the tank when i sart it up, but I do get approx 330k's out of top half of tank, and approx 200 out of bottom half, so all up I can squeeze 500k's out of one tank, _IF_ I drive around really gently and like a grandma, but usually get between 350-450 k's.

My problem is I get bad fumes in my cabin, but there is another thread on that and I am investiagting it further atm.

Sounds to me like your petrol cap needs replacing. i have a 93 or 4 (cant remember rightly) gtst and when i start i get no sucking noise or fumes.

I can only assume that the sucking noise is the car drawing air in through an air gap in the cap, maybe the same place the fumes are coming from.

when you go to fill it up do you get the "pop fissss" noise when u break the caps seal?

Depending on how hard you listen,

If its a small 'bubbling/guzzling' sound then its normal, but if you can hear something like air sucking then its not.

Also, the guage problem is very common on GTSt's, ive seen it on a few now including mine, its not that bad just somtimes you look at it and its on half full, you look back 10min later and its on 1/4.

i can get to the coast and back on a 1/4 of a tank :)

Depending on how i drive ofcourse

I get the same movement in my 32 - I think its a sign that the fuel sender is wearing out. I find it never reads LESS than whats in the tank, so if the gauge says EMPTY, then its empty - the warning light comes on anyway.

I'm getting around 400k around town and 550 - 600 highway.

Never had the vapour problem you describe, but then I never looked for it.

I have a 93 R33 GTST too - tho I only get about 330 - 340 kms at a PINCH from a tank - I ALWAYS try and put BP Ultimate in it and stay right away from 'crappymax' (Optimax)

Yeah I give it a little bit of a bootfull every now and then but mostly I don't drive it that hard------

Oh - and I only fit in about 45litres??

400 around town?? I WISH...

Have never heard any of the strange sounds you mention....

Warning light (fuel) ??? WTF?????? Do R33s have them???

I fill up when the fuel light comes on, Usually takes 58 to 60 litres, I prefer ultimate to optimax, however i have found i get more k's from opti, work that out! The sucking noise sounds suspicious, you should be able to get a fuel cap from a parts place like bursons, repco, autobarn etc. Good luck :D

Yea i just looked it up on motor trader, says 65L... maybe the smaller australian filler restrictor stops us filling it right up??

Definitely one of life's mysteries - I thought I had read somewhere (on the net) that the tankwas about 60-65L.

There IS no way mine takes ANYWAY near that - even when fuel indicator on bone dry E.

i think mine is stuffed, its a 93 GTSt, it sits on the full mark until i've done about 200km, then it will start going down. ill hit empty at about 350km, but when i fill up it won't take more than 50L. i've seen the fuel light come on once ever, and that was only when the gauge went below empty and i felt like i was running on fumes.

Hey Ska, I get bad fumes in my cabin also, can you pm me the thread about this or if you find out what causes it.

    • haha don't worry I'm sue you've got more fun ahead buying a 30 year old turbo car....but at least you are in the right place to ask
    • some days eh? The keyless entry and interior light on/off with the key will be controlled by the Body Control Module, but I'm not certain where that is or what it looks like (you might get lucky with a search to get a part#, which could be printed on it). I'd start at the A pillar/ Under dash/kick panel on the driver's side
    • It might be hit and miss, but Nissan Genuine Parts and Pitworks are not the same thing, although both are available from Nissan Dealers with Nissan Part Numbers. Nissan Genuine Parts are the OEM stuff, Pitworks are their attempt to get people back from generic parts makers
    • I did end up getting it sorted, as GTSBoy said, there was a corroded connection and wire that needed to be replaced. I ended up taking out the light assembly, giving everything a good clean and re-soldered the old joints, and it came out good.
    • Wow, thanks for your help guys 🙏. I really appreciate it. Thanks @Rezz, if i fail finding any new or used, full or partial set of original Stage carpets i will come back to you for sure 😉 Explenation is right there, i just missed it 🤦‍♂️. Thanks for pointing out. @soviet_merlin in the meantime, I received a reply from nengun, and i quote: "Thanks for your message and interest in Nengun. KG4900 is for the full set of floor mats, while KG4911 is only the Driver's Floor Mat. FR, RH means Front Right Hand Side. All the Full Set options are now discontinued. However, the Driver's Floor Mat options are still available according to the latest information available to us. We do not know what the differences would be, but if you only want the one mat, we can certainly see what we can find out for you". Interesting. It seems they still have some "new old stock" that Duncan mentioned 🤔. I wonder if they can provide any photos......And i also just realized that amayama have G4900 sets. I'm tempted too.
