One Of My Belts Snapped?

Car was making a really rough noise, so stopped into my mechanic, told me it was just a belt slipping, but it would be ok and to just ignore the noise.

wasnt to happy with the advice, but had to get to work, so drove to work, and then drove home tonight. Half way up the hill...the noise just stopped....cool?

get home, pop the hood....looks like its snapped...and i dont know what its for and weather its ok to keep driving or not.

so it someone could tell me what belt goes round this thing i circled in the pic, and if its a YOU NEED IT bit would be much appreciated.

its air con if you want air con get another one if not thats fine but wont hurt to drive without just dont turn your aircon on
