Consider they are the OEM item for a fairly well tuned OEM motor (R34 n1). Going to an enormous cam would be futile in a search for gains.

Consider again that they are well within the motors factory scope and a cost benefit analysis will begin to form.

Ultimately when wouldn't a ported head and the right cams be good? I say if your really serious about maxing out what you've got you should look harder at step 1 based cams and relax on the dreams of expensive port jobs. Be it myself I would run a set of gears as it seems the forum has proved they are a bang for buck performer.

step 1 cam size can be seen as 25x or milder 26x variants.. GL

Sell cams, buy cam gears and save the difference. Or if the cash is burning a hole in your pocket post details of your setup and we'll suggest something much more useful to spend it on.

well what i have got a the moment is the cams ported head 550cc injectors new r33 cranck stock rods, n1 piston 1mm o/s. cam gears n1 oil pump -7 turbos .arp bolts .. this engine was a stillway built engine but when i pulled it done every thing was stuffed and it was running a t88 turbo.. any ideas on what would be a good combo for these -7 turbos ...and would any one want to buy these greddy 272 degrees cams???

Dyno, I've also driven both cars on the street afterwards.

Both got to within 4rwkw of each other at 8000rpm (both around 305rwkw), the one with tomei cams is all over the OEM cam'd one until about 5500/6000rpm (from memory, may be slightly less, i dont have the dyno sheet here) where they are then dead even until redline.

very interesting.. finally someone with real results for poncam b on GTR, I've been on the fence as most say it's not worth the money vs result and stock works well

were they dialled in or left at zero?

    • Hope you aren't too sore after that one, might take a day or 2 to notice yet and I guess it is a loooooong drive home. On the bright side, tube frame front end is a thing at superlap, right?

    • The chart of front pressure to rear pressure (with one being on the x axis and the other being on the y axis) is not a straight line on a typical proportioning valve. At lower pressures there is a straight line with one slope, and at higher pressures that changes to a lower slope. That creates a bend in the line at that pressure, called the knee point. If you do not change the proportionng as the pressure gets higher, you will suffer excessive pressure (at one end of the car or the other, depending on which way you look at the proportioning action) and then get lockups at that end. The HFM BM57, from my memory of previous discussions, is based on the BM57 from a different car (to a Skyline), with a different requirement for the location of the knee point and the distribution of pressure front to rear, and so is not a good choice for an upgrade on a Skyline. Here's a couple of links to some old posts, one from here, one from elsewhere. A lot of it pertains to adjustable prop valves, but the idea is the same. There are plenty of discussions on here about this issue from al the many years of people wanting a cheap/accessible option. https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/learn-me-brake-proportioning-valves/236880/page1/ https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/learn-me-brake-proportioning-valves/236880/page1/
    • Yeah dunno why johhny posted that here with no context, just post on FB/insta bro where he put it up?  Laine had an off at T4 during Thurs prac, he's ok, car is less than perfect, they are done for the weekend, he can fill in the rest. Bando also binned it like 100m up the road.
