So the latest with my car is that I dont think its the turbos. After finding some long fingers and taking more pipe work off they spin fine with no play. The swirl marks that I saw from down the mirror where just fine oil and dust.

Going back to the cat it wasn't collapsed but it has a bit of carbon build up in it. Would this cause a huge restriction. It also has a blue tinge to it so it suggests its getting hot. After the shudder the exhaust note was quieter.

If I had blown a turbo I would of thought I wouldn't get any boost?

Im still getting 10 out of the 20 that it was set to. Plenty of pressure on the wastegate.

Ive checked all pipework and boost hoses. Car still starts and drives ok it just wont get the boost it used too.

Have I missed something before I put it all back together? Or do I need to pull more apart. I havent checked the back of turbos they are N1s so I would think the wheel is still there.

If I were you Brad I would take the GTR for a quick burn (very late at night) with the exhaust and cats removed and see if it will make 20psi. If it does, then it rules out the cats or collapsed exhaust out of the equation.

Bit of work done today. :)

Motor in, then gearbox in, now tomorrow to cut intercooler holes :)

nice!

ps: on your yahoo travels luke, can you keep an eye out for a 4" hks super drager cat back for a jza80 for me ? do u know how much they go for...need 1 real soon...? Thanks.

Good to see that thing getting together now. Will come and lend a hand/have a beer with ya when I am free mate :D

I just worked out the cause to my boost problem. It was a half blocked cat. There was a fair bit of carbon build up. It was very black inside. The cat should be a nice brown colour inside from the carbon being burnt off. Anway did the cowboy thing and bashed it out. Now the car boosts even better than before.

Since were talking about tunes. Should I get my car tuned again? Only because last time it would of had a part blocked cat. And now it flows better.

I always thought running N1s @ 20psi would get more than 265awkw.

not sure if anyone has read this about iphones/devices, but really apple didn't test them in australia based upon the temp restrictions did they ? even outside the car they get over that hot ?

Apple over temp warning

    • I can get more photos of it here soon and I plan to make a thread detailing the process. I received the car this way and it sorely needs refinishing. That is probably the most appealing photo of it. Up close it is fading, cracked, and needs to be re-glued. Depending on their condition I'm on the fence between refinishing or making a new set.  Another angle hiding the pimples and razor pumps
    • According to this thread the RS4V with build plate RC40 comes with the R200 diff @ 4.083 ratio as well (mine has said RC40 denotation). We may need to check if the axle stubs are the same pattern as well. The auto subframes have longer axles. However I think yours being a later Series 2 as well, we should have the same bolt pattern for the diff stubs. Unless your upgraded rear also has upgraded axles. Either way, I would not be opposed to pulling the covers to check so I can inspect that  fancy rear core  Also I don't have HICAS. I don't believe that should change things but I hope the people here with heaps more experience than me can correct me if I'm wrong   Let me know if you want to attempt to make this work and I can get some pictures of mine from under the car.
    • It's not that straightforward. For example I have had this code because my ignitor/power transistor wires were unplugged. It knows something is wrong but has no idea what it means. If you want to actually diagnose this I recommend following the service manual flowchart for code 21. Ohm out the harness, coilpacks, inspect the ECU, etc. And again, it's entirely possible for there to be no problem at all but if you're running a different coilpack it'll trigger the code because it doesn't like what it sees.
    • If it (the code) wasn't still current, it should have gone away by itself by now. No, nothing it 10/10. But it is quite likely. Everything else to do with the ignition could still be responsible (which is wires and connectors). The car is an old piece of shit now, so all the wires and connectors are also old pieces of shit.
    • Lock me in mate, although I'm not sure if I'll be heading up from Goulburn or down from Sydney, either way, return will be back to Goulburn
