The tyre mechanic told me the rear set-up of my M35 stagea series 1 Axis Autech is not suited to Australian roads .

The Japanese camber and Australian road camber are different and this is causing huge excessive REAR wear.

One quarter of the inside left rear tyre is bald after after 12,000km. The rest of the tyre is just roadworthy

He told me this is the third stagea he has seen this happen to.

Is he right ? He mentioned Pedders that could fit a kit? I would like some information to understand what is actually happening.

The right rear is worn but still road worthy and not so significantly worn compared to the left , but significantly different to the front

The front tyre-wear seems ok

Given the excessive wear (bald) I am guessing the rear left was not road worthy at 10,000km. Having 18inch 245 low profile tyres, this will quickly become an expensive replacement process. ( around $350 / tyre)

I am running tyres between 40 and 45 psi drove to Darwin and back 7000km and the other 5000km on city highway between 80 and 100kmh.

What is the solution ?

How expensive is the solution and will it be a 100% fix.

Are others having this problem?I haven't read of this anywhere!!!

thanks

Maybe look into a G35 rear camber "kit" from the US.

Pretty cheap.

EDIT: very quick search found this little video

There are a couple of options on eBay

"Ichiba" from the US for the G35

When I bought my Stagea, the left rear was worn EXACTLY as you have described and Rosella (whose car I fitted Sway Bars to) has a rear left tyre showing the same kind of wear condition that you are describing. Rosella is running 245/45/18 rubber with around 20 000km of use.

I have seen other NM35's exhibiting the same kind of wear condition.

I run 245/45/18's on V35 18x8's with a +30 offset; so my wheels are the same offset as your Axis rims, and my tyres are the same size/approximate dia.

His car and mine are very similar ride heights (+/- 10mm).The rear ride height of my car is 360mm from hub centre to wheel arch. This is the only way to accurately measure ride height as measuring from the ground or anywhere else will change from car to car due to differing wheel & tyre diameter.

As part of fitting my BC BR coilovers I had a 4 wheel alignment done by Wholesale Suspension Penrith; http://www.wholesalesuspension.com.au/ due to the fact that I disturbed the rear camber bolt becase dropping the inner arm eccentric bolt is the easiest way to remove/fit rear springs.

My Stagea has done over 25 000km of round town, twisty road carving, long distance, long distance with towing (1200km each way with 2 sportsbikes in a box trailer) and all four of my tyres are wearing perfectly.

At the moment they are about 3.5mm off the wear indicators. They have been flipped on the rims (so the inside edge becomes the outside edge) and rotated front to rear, once in this time.

Flipping tyres on rims is only possible if you run a tyre with a symmetrical tread pattern; assymetrics treads cannot be flipped.

I believe the car CAN be aligned correctly within the constraints of the OEM suspension, as long as the car isn't excessively low. My car is evidence of this. You just need to find someone who knows what they're doing.

Because the car is not common, some aligners will just just make an educated guess; some try R34 GTR specs, this is wrong; the wheelbase is different and causes the rears to scrub out.

I don't have the alignment specs that Wholesale used but I can only suggest that you contact them and see what they can do for you.

Good luck.

Pedders kit? Hmm...

I'm getting my adjustable rear toe arms (the ones Cam linked to ebay above) fitted shortly at the same time as a wheel alignment and it should fix any issues. I'm not going low, but was told the extra stiffness should be nice, so I got sucked in.

Didn't imagine I'd have any issues with the alignment, now you've got me second guessing... >_<

Yeah, exactly what I thought; someone upselling?

The arms you've bought are very nice; I think you will see a difference with them. Wholesale actually sell them too.

You'll be fine as long as they know what they're aligning...

my tires actually wear better than my BA XR6T.....and I am lowered! Are Japan roads different?

IMO if you run tyres for more than 1 year they are stuffed anyway........!

40 to 45 psi??? geez man, lower it to 32-35psi, surely.

you are over inflatting the tyres.

also, FYI you can get semi-slick 18" x 245 tyres from $150 to $200...... ie Pirreli Pzero (I paid $150ea), Kuhmo KU36 (I paid $195ea)... contact SAU trader Taleb-Tyres

You are paying too much for tyres, and over-inflating, in my opinion.

Thats only because you use Nankangs! :domokun:

lol....one set of shit tyres in my life and i've been branded!!!....damn itpinch.gif......might have to go back to boring Falken's or Dunlop's!

yep i got the last set

Nice!

How do you rate them?

To me, best tyre Ive used so far on a car. Massive amounts of grip.

Had one Mallala track day with them and had bugger-all peeling of rubber, infact they look barley used.

Cut my times down by well over 2 seconds as well (in conjunction with 4-pot R32 calipers & 324mm 350z discs)

My guess is he is running a higher tyre pressure to sit more of the middle of the tyre on the ground. This can help wear the tyres more evenly depending on your situation.

No! Bad Nankangs! :domokun:

Had them on my N14 SSS, previous owner put them on. Would never, ever recommend them to my worst enemy!

    • Hello!  i just finished manual swaping my r34 skyline with a r33 rb20de box(RB71C)box  When the car is running it squeaks crazy loud and it was smoking from the gearbox area. The gearbox is fine it was tested. The clutch slave cylinder seems like it doesn't fully releases the clutch. I want to ask if this noise is from the throw out bearing or could it be the clutch assembly or disk att.xFliq87Gzw6kImKBVqDebXkj0fBqymk0JaYeP3_3SlM.mp4
    • A few small updates since the previous post and lessons. I decided to do a little interior light upgrade on the 110. I quite like the iilumo items, even if they're a bit of a premium over other brands. You'll also note the Stedi Fogs, that will go into the S15 fog lights as I needed to match the bulbs since I got the new ones earlier. I hope they fit as the body is quite a bit longer than your normal bulb.  Annoyingly, I managed to trip the fuse, which normally wouldn't be an issue until I located the fuse. I can't say I've ever come across this. I had lucked out that someone nearby had a spare, but oddly enough Toyota dealerships seem to keep this in stock. I ordered some to keep in my stash and as luck would have it, someone else nearby tripped the same fuse so I passed on the favour.  I also did a little service on the 110 ahead of some additional work coming up. It's been annoying that Goleby's stopped carrying this particular HKS filter for the 110, so now I need to keep them on order from Japan. I also took the opportunity to install a bash plate and number plate riser. The plate riser is such a cheap but nice fix to help really tidy up the car. I'm tempted to now also replace my headlights, on this car. Both items were from Project Aero.    I also needed to replace the rear tyres on the 110, and after trying to get it aligned learnt that I need to replace some bushes in the front end, so that's next.  Closing out this update with a nicer picture as always!
