Again, horses for courses. There simply is no outright 'best' car.

A stock Skyline is not impressive at all, far from it. They don't deliver great fuel economy without a tune, they really aren't that fast, they don't have the best handling. If I wanted a fast car straight out of the box without having to modify it, Skyline wouldn't be my pick.

There's too many different cars with too wide a demographic for any one car to be the best.

yeah the twin turbo supra is a good motor, but i thought there were like 5k more than a skyline for similar model

ill always be a vl turbo guy, they've always impressed me to bits, just bit old in the tooth now

Yep agree on the JZ motors- even a boat soarer is i think a gud cheap package that probably handles like jelly, or what about a sleeper cressida? Given the 1jz or 2jz, mod for mod, any rb series donk will get smoked..and the jz motors will be more reliable aswl due to bein stronger..

never underestimate an rb, there no slouch..

Suspension set up on a VL is rubbish, even early HR31 skylines have IRS and handle better. Motor is neat but they are too expensive these days for what amounts to a fairly average car.

wasnt refering to the suspension, was refering to the torque and pull in the motor

So you're an RB30 fan?

Just get an Aussie R31. Same motor, but it doesn't cook itself for fun, cheap, easy to find a well looked after example, doesn't look like a VL...

As for what would be a better 'bang for buck' under $10k... My money would be on 1J powered Soarers and early Supras.

If you ever want to go for a natio run in a 'jelly boat' let me know. Bring spare undies.

Has a whiteline kit and stock supra bilsteins and boy oh boy does it handle like a champ for the fat prick it is. Even on tyres that have sat in a shed for the last 5 years..... Awesome.

Also, I forget which episode it is, but there is a best motoring video where JGTC GT500 drivers comment that a weight striped Soarer drives like a REAL JGTC car.

Go figure..

i want to see a 2jz or Ls1 TT in a GTR.

2JZ maybe but LS1 Turbo???

sif not LS2,3 or 7!! i mean come on wtf?

gen 3 FTL.

EDIT: 2JZ already been done, i know a thai that has seen this in action.

to be honest ive never been in a 1J powered car so i may change my mind .. lol.

I have a video and theres a Jap Guy called SMOKEY NAGATA , hes a top tuner in japan, dont know if you guys have seen his DVD, he does burn outs and over 300km/hr runs on the street, his mate also drive a GTR, hes also a top tuner.

anyhow, in his video his uses a supra but puts the GTR engine in with the supra 6speed , he does this to two supra's cause the body is better aerodynmics apparently and also has a V8GTR which hammers too..

If the 1J was so much better how come he doesnt use it?? must be a reason or maybe hes just a nissan fan

That car never made any sense to me, seems like a downgrade to swap the 2JZ out for an rb26. There isn't any good reason why you would do it.

that was written like a monkey that went to troll school.

and if you are talking only of markIV supras, then they never had a 1J anyway they had a 2J

also i heard that 26 is better technology just not stronger parts from factory.

speak on it people.

    • I was 99% sure the standard one is long enough to get there, you might just have to change the throttle orientation. If not, I remember someone having used an r31 cable instead, but that is probably harder to find than r33 by now...
    • HELP   Hey all, Is there an accelerator cable from another Nissan that can be used on the R33 GTST RB25DET with a Greddy forward facing plenum?  Thanks in advance  Rob
    • Or do we think it was installed to give 1 bar of boost max, all day, everyday?
    • So could it be assumed it has been installed intentionally with potentially a power FC boost controller kit?
    • Had my rig on Matt's dyno at PITS the other day. After a few years between tunes I added a few sensors and swapped intercoolers. Result. 553hp at 26psi. Not bad for an FJ20 that was built in 2007. The problem.. It filled the overflow bottle on hard runs which leads me to believe the head gasket isn't sealing. I have a coolant pressure sensor which was reading cap pressure at 22psi and occasionally overrunning to 23/24 psi on deceleration after a pull. It was not spiking. It has arp2000 head studs and a cometic gasket. As its been 18 years in service, I pulled the engine out and head off. Everything looks good but we obviously have an issue. Where I'm at.. Years ago I had the same issue, I checked the stud tension and they were all over the place. Some at 60 to 70 and some up near 90. I nipped them all to 100ft lbs and this stopped the water push until now. I believe this compromised the gasket back then. What do I do? 2 options are..  1) I bought arp 625+s, which I could put in with a new gasket. Thinking Kameari this time, reassemble and try again. 2) strip the block, get fire rings machined in with copper gasket and try that. I do not want to push it more than 28 to 30psi. I think the turbo will be out by then anyway. (G30-770). My other concern is the long term ability of a copper head gasket. Are they streetable for years? I feel like a new gasket with the new studs will probably suffice, but I don't know. Any thoughts welcome and advice on copper gaskets and fire rings. Thanks!
