NA 33/34's are not fast at all. Don't buy one expecting that.

An NA 33/34 is probably equivalent to a VY commodore in terms of straight line speed. But one of the biggest differences between the two are the lack of torque from the Nissan 6's. There is about a 100nm difference between the 3.8 litre V6 in the Commodores and the RB25 in the NA 33/34.

Buying an NA skyline is mainly about style and handling.

haha everyone is always so harsh about the n/a's. that said, if someone asked me if my car was quick, i would say hell no :P

they're not as gutless as people may make it sound, but by no means are they speed demons or anything.

should take one out for a test drive along with a vz and see which one you prefer bro.

one of my best mates has a vz sv6 5spd auto & even with his h3kt1k 20" chromies I only get him off the line through the first 2-3 gears but then he pulls away massively haha

only other time I've been able to get one up on him is a rolling start in 3rd, but again once his auto box starting building revs he pulled away haha

if you're looking for a quick & agile p-plate car, then you can't go past the dc2 & dc5 integra type r's - little pocket rockets !

if you're set on a skyline then don't stress on the power, it's fine for your p's & still able to have a lot of fun & it'll handle a lot better than a commo :)

my 2c

I am to assume your on your p's?.

If so you have two options.

Buy a shitter, wait till your off you pee's then get a turbo skyline.

Buy a NA skyline, it will hold its value due to the crazy demand for NA imports atm, then buy a turbo something.

If your not good at saving money buy the NA liner, that way you can be cool and keep your money invested till your off your p's.

Yes, yes they are. My mums Rav 4 Cruiser 2.4L is faster or on par with an NA R33/R34 - not even joking about that, they are. On paper and in the real world.

LOL maybe I just live in denial, and am not willing to fully accept how it is :P Else would have to cry myself to sleep every night....

as for op; if willing to see other options for some quick n/as would be the type r's (ep3, dc2, 5 not as much in audm :P), s2k, golf r32

Neither is a speed demon, in fact, nothing you can drive on your P's is going to be, just take both for a spin and see which you like better.

On the other hand if the 350Z or V35 Coupe wasn't on the prohibited list, I would have bought one long ago :teehee:

umm, my mates crossflow TE cortina is pretty quick...

Get a new Golf TSI with an easy exemption :P

Upgrade the turbo and exhaust, keep it quiet and subtle, noone will notice ;]

As for the 350, I looked at buying one then I realized they were prohibited. majorly pissed, I was.

N/A 33s aren't fast, but they're not slow.

If you can live with the fact you're not going anywhere fast, then you'll be fine owning one. My most recent liner is the slowest I've ever bought, but I'm loving it because I'm slowly getting it running smoother and gradually fixing problems with it.

The reason I feel comfortable with a slow car is because I'm whacking an RB25DET in it after I get my full license, so in the meantime, I'm using my money to upgrade brakes, wheels, suspension, cleaning it up and putting a proper sound system in it. Once I'm done getting it to stop, handle and sound great, I'll grab a new gearbox, engine, turbo and turbo back exhaust and start tracking / modifying like crazy.

So really, this stage of my life is just the "turbo lag" :P

Mmmm - I don't think that statement is accurate. My mum also has a 2005 RAV4 Cruiser 2.4L 4 speed auto. The n/a R34 sedan is quicker in all aspects in comparison to the RAV4.

Apparently the n/a R33 (i've never driven one) are the real slugs due to not having variable valve timing and variable intake length manifolds, but I'm just going from what I've been told.

Would I say the n/a R34 is fast - No

Does it handle/brake well - Yes.

I've said this in another post, n/a R34's performance is on par with a relativly late model 4 cylinder Camry.

Any commodore from VN onwards will leave you behind from 80km/h onwards (rolling acceleration).

Anything under 80km/h the n/a R34 will do reasonably well - you just got to keep the revs up.

    • I have more than enough digging, laying blocks, moving gravel, airrating, feeding and top soiling the grass, and setting up the veggie gardens growing some seedlings,  and then removing all the unused rock to keep me busy for the next few months at least,  hopefully the rain stops soon so I can get a few hours in this arvo, but, before that Sunday is washing day, is every body happy, you bet your life we are Nice country road day drives are a day off whenever I'm muscle sore from all the landscaping at the moment, but, more epic multiple day drives will start once the majority of the big jobs outside are completed
    • I hear that would involve some nice country road drives into the hills for Mark...
    • I thought I'd come back and add something I JUST learned. A Toyota LandCruiser with a 1HZ, mates perfectly with a bottle of Nulon brake fluid. As in, it perfectly screws in. Great make shift funnel when you cut the bottom of it off. This may work for your Corolla.   Unfortunately, tipping a 10L drum is much harder than a 4 to 6L bottle, and they no longer include the easy pour tap which was just perfection to use previously.
    • Guys since i bought r33 gts25t coupe 1994 automatic a/t(manual swap 350z gearbox)  all i got is problems, always problems. Lets start with that when i turn key into ignition(ON) fuel pump doesnt always works. Sometimes i have to turn key twice Off/on/off/on until it primes. Its new, dw300 - 340lph. My gearbox broke so i did gearbox swap, install different intake manifold, injectors and i take pipes. Car was sitting in garage for more than half a year. I did assembly all not that long ago and when i turn ignition cant hear prime. All of sudden it stopped working. Theres many videos on YouTube how to make relay mod on r33 straight from battery so i did and it doesnt work! 😰 30 - battery positive  87 - positive from fuel pump to relay 85, 86 - one of two wires from original fuel pump wires(light blue, grey) and it didn’t work. so I check on ignition and took original BLUE relays wires from trunk, next to fuses. (I believe it’s IGN+ and ECU pin 18. it didn’t work…  tried connecting (IGN+ from og relay) and (ECU 104 from 1of4 FPCM wires) to my new relay 85/86 and it didn’t work.  I unplug FPCM. Didn’t work. im thinking what’s wrong   fuel pump is working, if I leave IGN+ on 85 and 86 straight to ground it works but it’s just nonstop. Since it getting constant 12v after key in ON. light blue wire gives me 6-8v.  so how this should be connected? What causing ECU not giving — on pin? Or I did sth wrong and that’s why it doesn’t work? I need negative signal on ECU that control fuel pump. What this should be?
