Installed a second hand alternator in my car a year ago hoping to fix a number of electrical issues and it helped but problems were still there

Over the weekend I trial fitted my mates alternator and my car had never run so well.

So basically I want to buy a band new alternator, any ideas of the part number for it? I believe Bosch sell a direct replacement.

Or does any one know the OEM part number(Not the Nissan number but the Mitsubishi/Hitachi part number)

Cheers for the help.

I wouldn't bother calling nissan, they will want approx $1,000 for an alternator. And yes - Thats the OEM price. I got a bigger bosch that bolted straight on, and even come with a little plug adapter to allow the engine bay plug to convert straight to the alternator. It was literally plug and play.

Took me about 15 mins to change.

The factory one was 80amp and the Bosch one was 85amp. Held better voltage than the factory one.

The bosch replacement was $280.

Rebuilding\ Servicing your factory one will cost about $300. Waste of money.

I'll try and find the number, if not, I am going to see my mate (who has my old engine and alternator) on wednesday afternoon, and I can take a picture.

I may have the box at home still so I'll look on that too in a couple of hours.

I ended up buying a $90 alternator from a wrecker and surprise surprise its not outputting 14v either. Put my mates alternator on my car and steady 14v.

Went to Ashdown-Ingrams in Osbourne park yesterday and purchased a brand new 85amp Bosch alternator. Look to be plug in as it had the connector to plug into the standard loom. I will fit it on the weekend and will post up model details if it all goon.

only cost $250 as well so will be very happy if it fits.

I've recently bough a couple of second hand Hitachi alternators , one from Pick and Payless - 1990 300ZX LR180 (80a)$50 , and one from Pick a Part Dapto - 1995 A32 Maxima LR1110-705 (110a) $35 . The first owed me $54 for bearings and works fine on the old Subaru , the second $63 for bearings and with a bit of stuffing around will be for my S2 GTS25T . The Skyline has its original Mitsubishi 80a alternator and its plug is different to the Maximas Hitachi one . I have the Hitachis plug and sub loom so assuming it fits up ok the wiring should be straightforward .

I'd be interested to see the adapter provided with the above Bosch alternator if anyone has a pic . Something like that would make it easy to splice together an adapter wire to save cutting up the original loom .

That aside researching higher output alternators shows that they make higher output even at lower revs than some cars std alternators . Going from a 50 to an 80 on the old Roo showed no voltage drop at idle (14.3-14.5) and the headlights don't dim at idle anymore . It probably doesn't hurt to have this kind of voltage or similar at the coil or pump either .

Generally luxobarges get the highest output alternators because they have that much electric BS in them and the trendsetters want all that operating in quiet cars and when idling at the lights .

Anyhow I'll get back when its in and running , cheers A .

    • Forgot to include this but this is the mid section of my steering rack that looks like it has a thread/can be turned with that notch mentioned in the post:
    • Hey everyone, Wanted to pick some brains about this issue I'm having with rebuilding my 33 rack (PN is 49001-19U05). All of the tutorials/videos I've seen online are either R34 or S Chassis racks which seem to be pretty straightforward to disassemble but this process doesnt carry over to my rack. Few of the key differences that I've noted The pinion shaft on the other racks bolt on with 3 torx bolts: Whereas my rack bolts on with 2 allen head bolts: These changes are pretty inconsequential but the main difference is how you pull the actual rack out of the housing. The other skyline/s chassis racks can be taken out by tapping the rack out of the body with a socket and it just slides right out. I'm unable to do that with my rack because there's a hard stop at the end that doesn't let the seal/shaft be tapped out. Can also see a difference in the other end of the rack where mine has a notch that looks like you're able to use a big wrench to unthread 2 halves of the rack whereas the other racks are just kinda set in with a punch. My rack: Other racks: TLDR; Wanted to know if anyone has rebuilt this specific model of steering rack for the R33 and if there were any steps to getting it done easier or if I should just give this to a professional to get done. Sorry if this post is a bit messy, first one I've done.
    • I would just put EBC back on the "I would not use their stuff" pile and move on.
    • Can I suggest you try EBC directly again and link them to as many competitor catalogues as you can to show their listing is incorrect, eg https://dba.com.au/product/front-4000-series-hd-brake-rotor-dba42304/ If you have access to an R33 GTST VIN and your VIN, you could also use a Nissan Parts lookup like Amayama to show them the part number is different between 33 GTST and 34 GTT which may get their attention
    • So i got reply from EBC and they just this site where you can clearly see those 296mm fronts on R34 GTT. I send them photos and "quotes" that 296mm are not for 34 GTT and they are too small. But it will be very hard to return them cuz nobody here knows 100% and they just copy those EBC catalogue :-D https://ebcbrakesdirect.com/automotive/nissan/skyline-r34
