Rb20 Turbo Swap

Recommended Posts

In the process of swapping my leaky factory RB20 turbo for another second hand one in better condition.

What precautions do I need to take to ensure it receives oil pressure when i first start up the motor? I've heard of turbos being damaged in this way.

you can simply pull the injector fuse...but the engine wont crank hard enough to build oil pressure, with the plugs out there is no compression so the motor spins faster for longer and can build oil pressure.

wouldnt there still be oil in it if its 2nd hand? I would have thought the rule would be for brand new turbos.

When you turn the car off, im guessing most of the oild drains back then. Whats the difference?

Just put a funnel in where the banjo bolt goes in and fill it up with oil just before running it. It will get enough oil to stop any issues, when they assemble them they would use some sort of grease, they wouldn't ever put the bearings together dry.
