forging it is an option. In your case I would buy a used motor first and keep your failed one to see if you actually need to spend the money on another build later

get a used motor

whack it in

make sure everything is done and hooked up right

limp it straight to a tuner and have them do the rest, no matter how much work it is just let them do it.... please.

Your a strange feller lilcrash. From all the issues you have resolved you are obviously capable with a reasonable level of mechanical work. The strange thing is the bizarre conclusions you come to and wont listen to other peoples advice when its very common stuff.

Yep a rebuild or throw another stock engine in.

The fact that the engine was fine with the standard turbo means sometime since the new turbo was fitted you have been running lean or with too much timing for one reason or another. Its important to get things setup correctly before getting a tune so the tune can be helpful. If you change things after a tune, the tune is out and can no longer be assumed safe (depending on whats changed).

With enough fuel and a good tune, the engines are really strong so my advice would be a replacement standard one especially after reading about all the rebuild failures on here.

This problem only started last week. There wasn't any strange noises and it was only running 15/16psi. All there was is the fuel then oil smells. A few days later the oil poured out the breathers.

I have got a fair bit of experience, my dad refuses to pay anyone to do anything so I'm the same. I don't not try things to be an arse or anything, there is just always things go wrong before I get to try things then I forget about what I was going to try. I do appreciate all the help I've been getting.

you were running 15/16psi with problems, so you thought going to 25psi was going to solve it? BIt of extra boost will just "clear out the problems", like blow them out the exhaust? All its done is blown your rings and ring lands out of your exhaust.

Its well and truly made sure your engine is completely rooted.

Oil spewing out of the cam covers means blowby. Its your dipstick popping out too??

You're dreaming if you sit here "hoping" that its just a blown head gasket. Even after a compression test you still "want" it to be the head gasket.

The engine is f**ked, bad. You need to pull it out, get it rebuilt, and never touch a boost setting on a car ever again in your life.

I think you have missed half the stuff in this thread, my 18psi actuator wasn't holding boost so stao sent me another one, the new one made 25psi, 25psi wasn't intending on running, but that's what happened. This problem was there before it was spiking 25psi, it started when it was running 16psi.

Quote for a drive in/drive out rebuild $10k

Hence the advice to throw in another stock engine. If your mr home mechanic then you could have a go at replacing it yourself.

Cars are generally not the thing to just try yourself and learn from your mistakes because they are so costly. At least have someone knowledgeable check it over or give you advice in the first place.

Yeah I'm leaning towards buying a motor, most are between $2-$3k so be an easier option.

I have done more then a few engine swaps/removals over the years so I think I should be right, it will give me a chance to fix all the turbo install problems while it's out.

I had a full forged bottom end rebuild performed for me for $4200. Included engine out & back in, and for the retune once Ive completed the running-in of the engine. 10k Is a VERY steep price. Its in these instances it pays to have a regular tuner whom you have a good repore with.

Also included a clean up of the head (head was previously ported; was checked out for condition and refreshed), bore and hone of block, etc.

    • If they can dyno them, get them dyno'd, make sure they're not leaking, and if they look okay on the dyno and are performing relatively well, put them in the car.   If they're leaking oil etc, and you feel so inclined, open them up yourself and see what you can do to fix it. The main thing you're trying to do is replace the parts that perish, like seals. You're not attempting to change the valving. You might even be able to find somewhere that has the Tein parts/rebuild kit if you dig hard.
    • Can you also make sure the invoices on the box (And none exist in the boxes) are below our import duty limits... I jest, there's nothing I need to actually purchase and order in. (Unless you can find me a rear diff carrier, brand new, for stupidly cheap, that is for a Toyota Landcruiser, HZJ105R GXL, 2000 year model...)
    • Murphy strikes again! Nothing at all would have gone wrong if you had the tool kit in the car! You'd have just found the clamp loose the next time you went to touch it...
    • I have been being VERY quiet about what you're alluding to, as it is something that ticks me off... The number of cars from factory that run coil overs is HUGE! Most of them these days do... The other part that annoys me, is people saying "Well all the incabin adjustable suspension is illegal by blah blah blah"... If that's the case, then why can I buy a car brand new that can do it if, FULL STOP in cabin adjustable suspension is illegal...   Also, I could just chuck some aftermarket shocks in my car, throw the stock springs on, after my blue slip, dump my super low springs back in. Same shock and spring style setup... Hell, they could also be the same colour springs etc.     I'm voting, BlueSlipper didn't want to touch the above car for some reason. Whether it be some sort of bias against the car, the owner, them maybe having previously done dodgy shit and now they're being super careful in case they get slapped in the face by the Gumbyment again... Find a new blueslip place.   And can confirm as you had said, yes there are holy bibles of vehicle heights, and all sorts of other suspension stuff. Heck your run of the mill mechanic, and tyre shop has access to all of that stuff. It's how they do wheel alignments...
    • Funny story Heading to Sydney this morning on the HWY there was some slow traffic, so I gave it the beans and midway through my overtaking "power run" I lost all power It seems that I missed a hose clamp,  and the MAF and filter went WiFi To make this more problematic, the little tool kit that lives in the boot, is sitting in the sun room at Goulburn......LOL Luckily for me I found a bit of steel on the side of the road that could be used like a rusty and bent flat head screw driver to tighten it up enough that it got me into Sydney, it is now all tight like a tiger with the aid of a 8mm socket Note to self: Use my brain and double check stuff, and always keep that little tool kit in the car for when I have a brain fart
