Fluid Leak Under The Dash

Hi guys - quick question, I just noticed fluid leaking from the rubber washer that goes into the firewall for the clutch to pass - did some reading and its the clutch master cylinder? Would i need to replace the whole unit or a specific part in there somewhere? or is that something a mechanic will determine?

Clutch master cylinder is around $50 + fluid + labour.

Thanks mate - is it a doable job from home or a mechanic? (moderate skill level ) and it definately can't be any washers etc? the whole unit has to be replaced?

Don't need to replace - just get re-sleeved you may have worn out the grommit inside the cylinder

And I'd get a mechanic to do it for you

Clutch master is not $50 if you go brand new. Its more around the $120 mark. You can do it at home, you need two people. You can repair them if you know what you are doing by opening it up and checking the spring and seals.

ok Thanks guys - I've got a time booked with a mechanic in 3 days to have a look at this and a freakin sound I'm getting from the engine bay (possibly power steering pump / leak etc etc).

Guys - just had a look at it this morning and it looks pretty easy to take off - under the hood there's only one steel line going to it from the bottom, that can be taken off easily I imagine? and a few screws under the dash? Can anyone confirm whether I can do it myself and then just go and get the system bled properly from experts (thinking of getting the power steering and brakes bled and flushed as well).

Got quoted $80 for a second hand one today from a wrecker though

Chances are that the second hand one, if it isn't already rooted, my well soon be rooted. Better and safer to get yours reco'd at least, if not replaced with new.

I thought they sent it somewhere, at least that's what my mobile mech did, I'd just leave it for the mech to do, then its done right first time with no f$&@ing about
