tweety bird
Mercedes boss Ross Brawn is confident Michael Schumacher will make it onto the podium this year, saying the team are to blame for some of his poor displays. Fresh questions have been raised over the seven-time World Champion's future in the sport following his third DNF of the season in Spain a fortnight ago. The 43-year-old slammed into the back of Bruno Senna and then called the Brazilian an "idiot" over the team radio, but the stewards found that he was the guilty party and slapped him with a five-race grid penalty for this weekend's Monaco Grand Prix. It has been the story of his season though as he has picked up just two points from the first five races which is in stark contrast to team-mate Nico Rosberg who has 41 points behind his name following a race win in China. Schumacher, though, still has the backing of his team boss as Brawn feels they haven't exactly helped the German's cause. "Much has been said and written after his accident in Spain, but we should not forget that WE - the team - have let him down in three of the five races by not delivering the best job possible," he told Bild. "We must do better. I saw Michael's real driving quality in the first race. Therefore, I believe that we will still se Michael on the podium this year." Schumacher's three-year contract with the Brackley squad runs out at the end of the season and Brawn says "when the time comes, we will sit down together and talk about Michael's future". http://www.planetf1.com/news/3213/7772882/-Merc-Have-Let-Schumi-Down- .......... tweety bird
Caterham shrugs off Heikki Kovalainen's engine blow-up in Monaco Grand Prix practice Caterham's technical director Mark Smith downplayed the significance of Heikki Kovalainen's engine failure during first practice for the Monaco Grand Prix. The Finn's session came to a halt some five minutes from the end when his Renault power unit blew up spectacularly while driving through the tunnel. Smith said, however, that the engine was due to be replaced for Saturday and, with the problem happening at the end of the session, Kovalainen did not lose any track time. "Even though Heikki's FP1 was cut short by the engine failure it was at the end of the session and we did not lose any track time as the session was red-flagged," said Smith. "The new engine he ran in FP2 was due to go on his car tomorrow anyway, it had covered more than 2,000kms, so it really was not a big problem for us to see his morning session end that spectacularly!" Kovalainen, 21st quickest in the afternoon, was pleased with the updates introduced by his team this weekend. "This morning's session went pretty well," he said. "We tried a new suspension part early on that felt pretty good, and then we ran through a normal FP1 session on the primes until the engine let go as I was entering the tunnel towards the end of the session. "As soon as I engaged neutral the rear axle locked up and that brought FP1 to a slightly early end." http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/99810 Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/384282-formula-one-2012/page/137/#findComment-6370301 Share on other sites
