Whats wrong with this state ?

MASSIVE increases in speeding fines, driver's licence costs and water fees will kick in from July 1.

While costs for public transport tickets and motor vehicle registration charges will increase only modestly, those caught exceeding the speed limit will be whacked with fines up to 28.6 per cent higher.

Drivers exceeding the speed limit by less than 15km/h will now pay a $252 fine, up from $196.

A breach of 15-30km/h will attract a $371 fine, up from $312, while fines for those travelling more than 40km/h above the speed limit will be $523, up from $468.

Treasurer Jack Snelling said he was comfortable with drivers who broke the law being further penalised, while denying it was simply a revenue-raising measure.

"No one would be happier than me to not raise a single cent from fines from speeding drivers," he said.

"Road accidents cost millions and millions and millions per year.

"I'm quite comfortable with these measures."

Driver's licence renewal fees will jump from $140 to $185 for a five-year term - a 32.1 per cent increase - with the same increase, to $370 from $280, for a 10-year licence.

Mr Snelling said this increase was a result of last year's Budget and there was not the financial breathing room to unwind it.

The average residential water bill will increase by 40.3 per cent, from $469.60 to $658.70, to pay for the Government's desalination plant. Treasurer Jack Snelling has already indicated consumers can expect a similar increase in the following year also.

Motor vehicle registration fees would increase by between 3.9 and 4.3 per cent while the standard compulsory third-party premium would increase by 2.7 per cent.

For a four-cylinder car, this would mean an increase in annual fees from $578 to $595 - a 2.9 per cent rise overall.

Single-trip tickets for public transport would increase 2.2 per cent to $4.70 while peak-time multi-trip tickets would increase 3 per cent to $30.90.

"The annual indexation factor for fees and charges has been set at 2.9 per cent for 2011-12, reflecting the average increase in the cost of providing the relevant services," Government budget documents say.

The motor vehicle fee increases are about 1 per cent above this indexation factor to fund a four-year program of road resurfacing and rehabilitation works for rural roads.

what a miserable lying c**t

Yeah its pretty much a hunt for more money

its the point to point speed cameras which they are going to install around Adelaide next year which totally suck

Are point to point cameras used in other cities yet rant.gif

im assuming you mean average speed cameras. they use them a lot in the UK especially through road works

I cant see it working if you have traffic lights ,

im guessing only on uninhibited flowing roads , lets say roads through parklands between Greenhill rd and south terrace .

can anyone clarify ?

well if the northern expressway extensions onto south road (for example) were happening in the uk there would be a speed camera from when you entered the 40kph zone and one at every set of lights so if you averaged more than 40 youd get done

but they could put them at any traffic lights so that if you sped between two sets of lights, even if you slowed down to go through the intersection then you would still get done

Those cameras you speak of are already mounted on Port Wakefield road's northern half...

Highest taxed state, highest rego costs, highest speeding fines (even before the increases were brought in), all under the guise of "saaaaaaving lives". This is all Treasury's decision..not road safety. Not one police member attended the meeting when this was voted in.

But I was told they are only for trucks/log books at this time.

If they didnt increase the fines then they would most probably increase smokes and beer. So we cant win ever.

Yes there are a few cameras on port wakefield rd. You could hold it down and just before the end pull over for 5 min and then it looks like you were going below average speed.

Yeah we could.

Stop the wankers from giving themselves 31% pay rises. I only got a 3% rise last year based upon the cost of living index, so f**k the pollies.

Oh, and stop them from spending money taking their children overseas... and building shit like tram extensions...

Heres a thought.... spend some money on fixing our roads... how hard would that be?

    • Nah that is not actually a lot. Just painting my GTR frontend and the little bits to make sideskirts/nismo flare pieces work correctly/fit on the sedan/mount up correctly came to about $7000. Is it a lot? Sure. None of this is economical. Economy would be shelling the car and buying a 2010 Corolla to commute in. The perspective of all of this is different.
    • I have the 2025 build re003s’ on my 06 XT Forester Turbo and I quite rate them for street wet and dry
    • I don't see any issues here. I've been saying all along this is a big job, the price reflects that.  When the car comes back perfect I'm sure it will feel like money well spent.
    • Remember, take original quote. Double it. Then add a bit more. It's how any project goes.
    • So, I started this repair and got as far as "fixing" the holes with some fibreglass. God all those years working on boats came back quickly. I decided I'd reach out to some rust guys just to see what they would say about it. I came across a guy about 40 mins away and went to see him. He said the windscreen needs to come out, that there might be some more bits around the windscreen and he'd quote them at the time. But his quote was $300 to remove and replace windscreen and $3k for the damage he can see. He said he could respray the roof for $1200 and the bonnet for another $800 (somebody has previously rattle canned it, its horrendous). This is $5300 + any small additional bits. It's a lot, I get that and the name of one of my fave youtube channels 'Not Economically Viable' comes to mind.  I'm not being financially rational, but I've taken him up on the quote. He's opening a new shop in November with more room, so we're waiting for that. I'll leave the currently missing headliner out until then. I'm looking forward to it being fixed and having the paint looking nice again (lots of clear coat issues on the roof too). / flame suit on.
