Ok, just wondering what peoples experiences are with tinting tailights?

I spoke to my panel workshop, they've 'sprayed' some lights before, but they said it doesn't look good at night and doesn't hang around too well.

I wasn't really thinking of spraying, i was thinking of using a film to cover them, so it's nice and uniform.

I also don't want to go really dark or that super smoked look some R34's have, i just want to darken them a touch. Is it possible to get a light tint film?

Anyways, interested to see what you guys'n'girls have done

cheers

Don't do it Dan!

I think it will look shit and will lessen the visibility of you brake / indicator lights.

Having the 4 red brake lights is like a trade mark for a Skyline = Leave it stock.

Ive never heard or seen a film that can go around curved edges, Im not intimate with r34 taillights though so Im not sure of the surface shape...

but you could use normal window tint film on flat surfaces, but it wont go well on even a slightly 2 way curved surface...

I used the tint paint on my tail lights, and its not bad, I also use red globes and they are bright enough to be easily seen in day and night time.

but the painting part takes a few practice goes as the paint itself is more like an ink and will run quite easily with low buildup and you also need to be exact in the coverage to be consistent with both tail lights so they look the same and even.

it's not quite what you guys think :D

I've got the Qest LED lights in them now, same style as Nismo but brighter LED's and the indicators are LED as well :) - But the issue is that Qest mount the LED's on white/black or sparkle boards. Black is quite dark, looks cool but the LED's show too much for me - sparkle looks a little silly and white looks almost OEM, but being white background, it's slightly lighter. I just want to get back to the OEM colour, nothing more than that.

So at the end of the day, i'm looking for a VERY light tint option.

Product called "Night Shade" it can be purchased from super shit auto.

Works a treat I have done it on one of my cars.

Here is the link to it

All you do is a light spray on the inside of the light covers. *emphasis on light coat*

Let it dry and see what you think.

Go another coat after it has had a good 20min to dry if you want darker

i can vouch for night shade by vht , the stuff is good . if you know how to spray evenly and lightly you can get pretty good results . but i also wouldnt recomend tinting lights on cars other then black cars , i have to say i think it only goes well with black and the whole stealth look , but thats just my opinion.

you could also use like a window tint film , i did that a couple of years back on my r33 series 2 front fog lights , it did look good .

heres a photo of the vht night shade on my old ute , notice i didnt go over the top and it doesnt look like some one sprayed jet black spray paint over them like most noobs do these days .

    • Ha ha ha, that's fair mate! We have the crackhead dogs now. Mainly because the missus wants the crazy dogs while she still has the energy and capacity to be able to keep up with them! Ha ha our current two are both Working GSD, there brothers and sisters (from the same litters) are in Police, Corrective Services, and I believe one did end up in defence force too. They're wild and fun, yet right now, both curled up asleep on the lounge room floor while we watch some TV. Mal is very likely the next dog (unless I get my couch potato guardian dog 😛 )   What are your Kitties names? Are you planning some house work, like those high kitty shelves, built in scratching post, and some cat passages from one room to another room?
    • Maine Coone, did look at but to big and fluffy As for performance dogs, we had Mals at work, performance dogs are fun to watch, but, way to much work for this old rooster
    • Yep, it was only an option on the Q50 Hybrid.  Same in Japan as far as I know. And doesn't use a centre diff like the Suby's do, so not the same as the WRX.  But it also isn't a reactive AWD like other Nissan AWD vehicles are, eg. Murano/Xtrail/etc.
    • You should have got a Maine Coone then. Only thing is they're big. But so cool, and just like a dog. Or, just get yourself a high performance dog. That'll teach you for wanting Parkour indoors 😛
    • Are you thinking of Bens R32? I don't remember if his went through the bonnet itself, but it went through the chassis rail. Brad (RISKIN) bought it, and turned it into a track car. It's funny how anti people are of Jim Berry now. I remember when I pulled mine out (during an engine change) and inspected it and found it cracking badly. At that point in time so many people were even on SAU, were so pro Jim Berry, and that was after Bens GTR exploded his quite publically.
