Hi everyone,

Am looking at installing a double din DVD unit in my R34 GTR.

Mine came from factory with the TV unit - etc, so has the extra interior panels in the centre column (As per picture, sorry dony have a close up of the centre bit).

For those who have already done the conversion - do you have to source and replace the actual air con unit (as my current one seems a bit smaller than it does on my GTT and other GTR's).

Or is there a different larger facia which you can buy that snaps on to the existing unit?

Cheers in advance.

The A/C Controls remain and should occupy the DIN slot just below the air vents.

The double-DIN head unit sits below that.

My former VS2 and Matt's current Nur have had the Alpine INA-W900E double-DIN head unit installed.

It's a superb unit with large screen GPS etc

One SAUer in WA was trying to sell his new unit below wholesale > F/S thread

The thin side strips have a brushed titanium look nearly identical to the standard R34 GT-R facia.

If you're not installing it yourself, Daniel of Carbon Car Systems Blacktown has been used by our family several times now Ph 1800.227.252

He does a lot for SAUers

Hi mate, thanks for the response as always.

Im familiar with the placement of the unit, however as I have the extra TV controls - etc in the centre of the dash, i could swear (unless my eyes are playing tricks with me) that the air con units facia appears a bit smaller than it usually would on the other examples without the TV controls?

if you are happy to lose the TV side of it then that unit can come out. the panels are different as well. the AC controls change. you need the non navi units. I can get them at a cost if required.

you only get channel 7 and no picture anyway

Hi mate, thanks for the reply.

I've taken another picture of my centre column to compare it to one without the extra nav unit above it.

The facia on the air con unit is slightly smaller than one without the nav unit, main question is whether the whole air con unit has to be changed for a new one, or whether there is another genuine nissan plastic facia which snaps on to the front of the air con unit to make it the same as the bigger one (as all the controls - etc look the same).

Cheers.

nope they are different. you will need the 2DIN panel and the AC controls. from there its a plug and go affair.

if you need them new - shoot me a message.

Chris, if the Nav unit isn't present is it possible to just insert a double din screen where the former radio and sunglasses compartment were or is the conversion kit required?

Hi mate,

If you already have the air con unit in the correct place, chances are the brackets you have in there can be reused.

Im assuming you have a single din unit with a pocket or similar underneath it. If you remove both, you can see if a double din unit fits in to the screw holes in your current brackets.

Hope this helps.

    • What 1.5 way? There's no such thing really as a 1.5 way, just different ways of explaining 2 ways with different ramp rates. HOWEVER. In any driving in a straight line your 1.5 or 2 or 1.7 way should have no clunking at all. With the clutch fully depressed the diff should be silent (unless it's welded but I'm assuming it's not). Something aint right here.
    • Clutch is a spec brand, new clutch system,( PP, flywheel, friction disc, etc. pull type) installed 100 miles ago, with no problems.
    • looking for some help and maybe some insight on others experience with a new LSD. R34 GT ran and drove beautifully, but always alot of grip loss due to the open R200 rear end, so I just installed a new 1.5 LSD way into the stock open R200 for a ER34. Simple. Everything seemed right. I test drove for the first time this weekend. as I started to back out the garage the first time slowly with tires straight it sounded and felt like I had a loose or half disconnected drive shaft...that was clucking around loose and shaking entire vehicle, and making it feel like the trans clutch was spontaneously slipping then grabbing very roughly while just letting out pedal slowly. I backed it out went to pull forward with the same noise, shake and slip grab feeling with hesitation, I turned the tires to back out more and then pulled ahead some same thing but worst because of added wheel resistance (which that I expected) puzzled … pulling it back in checking everything over and finding nothing wrong, I tried it the next day. same thing, couldn’t believe how it shook everything again making a terrible noise and making it feel like the trans clutch was slipping and grabbing, but I got it out of garage into the driveway, got it straight, drove forward and then reveres a few times in a straight line everything shaking , causing what felt like clutch slip and grab every time, sounded like right behind front driver tire and I could feel it in the floor board with my feet,... worst right when beginning to let clutch pedal out to engage slightly, shuttering and sounding terrible along the way…I managed to slowly get down the road, babying it the whole way, once I was rolling (out of 1st) seemed to be better and between shifts, then clutch felt closer to normal…not slip/ grab etc., but back down to any stop, straight road or turning, same thing. Made no difference if all tires were straight or if I was turning. All other gauge read out correct. with in 2 miles as planned I reached the empty parking lot and performed the break in procedure that came with lsd, essentially to drive in a figure 8 a bunch.  Did this, binding chattering, and shaking the car the whole way. I drove it back home seemed somewhat normal once I was in straight line and past 10 mph or so, and I know it will “bind” on corners and cause some tires squeal when turning especially from a stop, but when I begin to move it still causes what feels like the trans clutch to slip and jerk badly as well as shaking the entire car, and sounds terrible, that I didn’t expect. I used the fluid they supplied with LSD kit and did the breaking, planning to change fluid as they suggest after breaking, but wondering will it get smoother or less aggressive with use? maybe a 1.5 is just too aggressive for normal road driving?   I have a LSD that I put in my 71 cuda when I restored it, with amazing smooth , quite yet effective results. Different style LSD but that ones a joy to drive. maybe expecting too much from this R200?
