Cheapest way I can think of is one of the $99 TV tuner cards. Most (if not all) have hardware video capture built in. I'm not sure what sort of quality it is, but it'd easily be better than VHS..

revhead: ive never used the hardware capturing on the tv tuner card, i might have to investigate this! i'll connect the vhs recorder to it later today

goon: the camera was on a suction cup mounting bracket on the rear windscreen...was awesome. but now i think wakefield will only permit passengers to carry cameras or if its mounted it needs to be caged up...as for it being too close for comfort? nahhh i knew what was happening
