Since your old boss is the third party in the accident, you can not tell them what to do. He has the choice to go with his own insurance or even get it repaired at his perfered work shop and have a fair and reasonable assessment done on the car.

Since the car is a total loss from another claim it is not possible to get another quote separate to this, it would be stupid asking him to do so knowing his car has been writen off, so a fair and reasonable assessment would be done on behalf of the insurance company backed up with a de-valuation report on the total loss if the matter goes to court.

Do the right thing and pay up, if you were in his shoes would'nt you expect to be paid if someone damaged your car and de-valued it. Besides you have acknowledged that it was your fault on this posting & this would hold up in court if it went to that extreme. It would be best if you made a fair agreement with him, Karma can bite back bigger and better!

You've made one MASSIVE assumption and that is that his payout was less due to the damage caused by the OP.

So until his boss can provide some details regarding his claim, I'll stick with my suggestion to tell the boss that he can go fornicate with himself.

Or fornicate with a pineapple.

If he didn't inform the insurance company of prior damage when he received the payout, then he breached his contract/agreement ad that is called fraud son!

I'm pretty sure he wouldn't have informed the insurance company.

As in my first post have advised to contact the old boss to discuss and suss out what info he has and ask for images, not making assumptions just stating facts of what could have happeded since there is not many details in the first post. As for telling some one to fornicate with them selfs isnt going to help anyone. Better to sort the issue out now rather than latter so call your old boss and get as many details as you can.

Dont need to advised your insurance company of minnor scratches or bumps that are under of value of $500 to repair which sounds like this accident, So no fraud there mate!

Just joining a couple more dots Brian...

If the boss has been paid out on his write-off; and assuming the scratch on the boss's car might not have been subtracted from the "sum insured" if it was an "agreed value policy";...

my question is, "Isn't demanding his ex-employee to pay up for the bumper scratch a form of double-dipping?"

I would concur with you if the car was devalued on the basis that his (the boss's) policy was only "market value".

If so, I'm wondering what's wrong with OP asking a couple of 'leading questions' ??

If the car was insured as an agree value, and the ex boss has been paid out an agreed value amount. if you chose to ignor him, he can lodge a claim with his insurance agaist you to play the game. As the damage on the car can effect the salvage amount the insruance company will follow it up to recover costs.

If the insurance company did not de-value the car from the old damage, since the claim is from around 1 year ago as stated in the first post, the insurance renewal would have been done on the vehicle. The ex boss may have accepted a lesser agreed value due to a small amount of old damage where then is liable to chase you up for any cost. This would be hard to prove but would need to find how much the value of the car droped over the insurance year and if it was insured for red book - glasses guide value or lesser amount.

Best to call your ex boss and ask the questions.

You love assuming ey?

How about stop thinking your right and rather than assume everything as fact, we speculate.

As in,

I speculate that you like bbw therefor

Op has to send boss bbw

Sorry for the confusion from now on i will specutale of what can happen! My bad, just trying help a fellow SAU person with speculations (not facts) from my knowledge of being in the motor vehicle repair industry for 14 years and being a motor vehicle assessor for the last 6 years.

He didn't get devalued for the scratch. It was very very minor. He is chasing me up for it because the company is hard up and it was only a few weeks ago when I left.

I believe he is just annoyed that I am very VERY glad to be gone.

If that's so, then like I suggested, he's double-dipping.

Therefore Birds' summation still stands.

root his wife.

give her $50

send him a text saying "dropped by your house. you weren't there so I gave it to your wife"

I really don't see another option

    • Apologies for the long post, but needed somewhere to lay out the entire timeline of events and actions taken:   I've got an 89 GTR with a R34 RB in it. It's been running great all year, driven probably 500KM in the last month. It's not my daily driver, just a weekend fun car.    Build info: R34 RB26 - HKS 2.7 stroker kit, HKS adjustable cam gears, HKS turbo upgrades, Trust intercooler, R34 factory DENSO 440cc injectors, JUN chipped/tuned R32 ECU. All of this work was performed in Japan back in 2019.    Thursday 10/2/25 - It's a nice day and decided I'll drive it to work, I start it up in the garage and I notice it took a few extra cranks and sounded a bit funny. I figure maybe it was just because it was a pretty chilly morning. I pull it out into the driveway to warm up a bit before leaving. As I leave the driveway, it feels very off and sounds like a misfire. I pull it back in the garage to deal with after work and take the daily to work. I was able to diagnose it as a cylinder 5 misfire with the old spark plug test (unplugging each plug until a sound change with the engine running). I take off the whole ignition system, ignitor, plugs, spark. *Important note, it is still on the R32 ignition system with the separate ignitor system. I test each system with a multi-meter and nothing presents as a smoking gun. I put it all back together and it starts up no issue. I go ahead and order the PRP R35 ignition conversion kit. It should arrive today (10/13/25)   Friday 10/3/25 - Another nice day, car starts up great and drives great all day. Very pleased that everything seems to be OK   Sunday 10/5/25 - Decided I'll take it to play some golf, load up and drive to the course about 25 minutes away. Drives wonderful the whole way there, I pull in the parking lot and the engine completely comes to a stop. I do not recall if it sputtered at all, but just remember all of the sudden the engine was off. I roll it into a parking spot, try to crank it back on and nothing.  It'll crank and crank and not even try to start. End up getting it towed back to my house and push it up into the garage.    Items I have checked: Fuel in the tank Fuel Pump relay Fuel pump fuse  Spark Plugs & gap Coil packs Ignitor    I know the cylinders are getting fuel as the plugs smell like fuel after a start attempt. I tried spraying starter fluid into the manifold and cranking and not even a sputter.    I decided to do the live CAS test (removing the the CAS, ignition on and spinning the CAS stalk to see if the injectors pulse and spark is active). All of the injectors were pulsing and I have spark at the plug. The half-moon end of the CAS did seem very loose, I'm not sure how much play is supposed to be there, but it was more than I expected. There was no in/out play of the shaft, just the tip end that is pinned on had quite a bit of play.    CAS Play video   When I put the CAS back in, I stupidly did not re-time the engine. I know I need to do that tonight, however, I do not think it will start given it seemingly was not the issue. My plan is to do the PRP R35 coil kit and retime the engine at the same time.    I plan on ordering the Haltech Nexus Plug-in ECU once they are available again, but ideally would like to get this sorted before firing the parts cannon at it and potentially adding more variables.    Anything glaring that I am missing here, I'm a bit at a loss?
    • Get it on a dyno. Get something logging Consult. Run it up and find out what is causing it.
    • Looking for a plenum for rb25 de+t neo  Not looking to push much power maybe 300kw at the wheels, is there much difference in flow for Freddy “Greddy style” compared to original Greddy or options like Proflow or Otaku garage?    I won’t be porting the de Neo head for now as I think it’ll be fine 280-300rwkw but appreciate the help and any experiences anyone has between them and any advice. Thanks  Looking at this plenum for now below
