Hey guys,

I really would like to know what are the Garrett equivalent of the HKS GT-SS turbo's?

I have researched for a bit to find many mixed results that they could be either the -7's or -9's

based on the source. However, from my understanding the -7's are actually closer to the

N1 turbo's off the R34 GTR's.

Also, does anyone which is suppose to output more power between the -7 and -9's?

Thank you.

GTSS is EXACTLY the same as -9. It's the same part without a pretty badge. This information is in just about every thread started on this topic since SAU started.

For the rest, use the search button. It's been covered so many times, in great detail. There won't be a single question you can think of that hasn't been answered already on those turbos.

There's a 300kw GTR thread, 400kw thread, RB26 dyno results thread, 7's vs 9's thread (not this one) plus more. There's ECU threads, Fuel system threads, exhaust threads, dump pipe threads, intercooler threads, air box threads, clutch threads, radiator threads, brake threads, wheel size and fitment threads. It's all been covered before :)

This may seem rude, but members on here who have taken the time to give very detailed answers and information in the past will find it rude that their past contributions are neglected by other users who are too lazy to take the small amount of time to search when they've given their time to answer the questions already.

Le sigh.....

Will -9's (GT-SS) go well with a 2.8??? :P

No one has asked that yet!

My guess is awesome low to midrange, then a choked top end and drop off after 6500ish due to smaller hotside compared to -5's, and smaller cold side witth more heat if you put in more PSI.

+1

....but, They will make more hp than the -7 due to the larger trim on the comp. And a -5 might be too big for him

gtr.uk confussed me so much mate, there quite old posts aswell but people keep saying gtss are -7s ect ect, or they say -7 is bigger then -9 ect ect

The pommie forum has really taken a dive in quality over the lasts few years.

-9's are SS's without actuators and a badge.

The difference between HKS GT-SS and -9's is nothing. GT-SS used to come with HKS stamped front compressors but now they have the same cover as Garrett -9s (and have had it for ages now). GT-SS come with adjustable actuators, -9's don't come with any actuators (Garrett do make bolton adjustable actuators to suit though that can be brought seperately).. although if you wanted standard actuators on -9s then you would want "-1's". • They're all horrible. X-Trails have had a nasty sounding 4cyl since forever, no matter what engine family it came from. The CVTs only made that worse. Then the whole Renault thing only made every Nissan that was contaminated by them even worse again. The only fun I've had in a X-Trail was having it blown sideways across a frozen Minnesota highway at 90 mph trying to make it to the airport to get out of the frozen hellhole of Hoth. Nearly died. Was great fun.
    • Alrighty, I'll have to grab a couple pics and type out something soon in another post. I haven't driven a modern X no, this would be the first one really. Yeah the rental boxes are always cheap as chips right? So I'd doubt that anyone was handing out GTs to go and abuse. But I s'pose I could be wrong for sure. New cars these days though? Pretty unimpressed with what I see now; 20 years and all that, like you said. It just kind of worked out to have these two cars now. I'm pretty pleased with that, don't need much else. I'm sure you lads are right about the temps and for sure, you wouldn't have much time to drive 'em down there if you all were like me. I do hate sweating all over the seats though😆
    • Let large companies that are making money off selling kits do the preliminary engineering for you. If they all do -10, then that is all you'll ever need.
    • Hopefully it ends up being something manageable, like a hone, rather than a full bore—it would be a huge relief if it’s not as bad as it looks. Hang in there; these setbacks are annoying, but it sounds like you’re handling it as smartly as possible.
    • At the end of the day, it’s all about understanding the odds and being comfortable with the potential cost, whether it’s horsepower on a build or chips on a roulette table. And I have to say, the Laine example made me laugh—some people really do embrace that carefree, “roll and see” attitude!
