Scotty- Its external gate, 44mm tial comming off exhaust housing, The tuner set it up, it has one hose going in top and one hose at the bottem, looks like theres heaps of duty to bring it on early, will double check though

The tuner tried all the springs like 5 of them, the low boost setting is .8bar so whatever that spring is .

What would be best/cheapist option for earlier and more aggressive response/power? RB30bottem end? water meth?E85? Housing swap? low mount aftermarket exhaust manifold?

Of course, a blocked cat/collapsed muffler would make it very flat also but dropping the exhaust is the first thing I would have done, while it was still on the dyno.

the intake pipe was done by myself, welded a 45degree 4inch pipe to a 3inch reducer and hasnt been tested, it does have a very lumpy idle and slight jerking at 2000rpm which the tuner says its the cams after playing around with fuel and ignition at those points,

ERD welded the external pipe to the housing, it must be a 11psi spring in there cause low setting is 0.85 and high is 1.2bar

the only part of the exhaust that hasnt been taken off/replaced is the resonator, it was a 3 1/2inch jap catback, i took off the silencer muffler and put on xforce 3inch, and custom dump by ERD and 100cell cat from ERD too, looks 3 1/2inch too

but it was easily gaining kw's with each degree of timing , like 7kw each degree so dont think the resonator would be holding it back, but maybe.

I guess if the setup is fine and it's just that the compression is too high then a quick tune on E85 would prove it. :)

That way you would have both maps also so you could swap between them.

so that means buying more injectors and pump doesnt it?

was reading mafia's water/meth thread, he managed to increase the timing like 7degrees more, so that would be a solid 40kw's plus and only need a small tank of it compared to a full tank of E85, seems like a win win situation,

maybe tune on water/meth with 20-22psi and hope for a solid 320kw ( stock internals :wacko: ) , hopefully the boost would come on atleast 500rpm sooner and quicker..

youve hung the gate off the housing so it cant possibly be that, its more likely to be the flow character of the accumulation of parts.

be it myself, id run a few tests looking for leaks or restrictions but then id probably tap a hole into the exhaust somewhere (probably the spacer plate between the turbo and manifold) then see what sort of pressure ur getting out of there. I bet theres more pressure pre turbine than there is in the intake by a long shot.

if thats what id found, id be ordering a highmount with no gate port and modding the gate pipe angle off that rear housing.

Had to read this 3times to understand , i think your saying the exhaust manifold is restricting the turbo from boosting properly is that right?

if the engine didnt have carbon in it it maybe have made 290ish which would of been closer to normal wouldnt it? but doesnt explain the slow boost curve.

That's the main issue, are you sure its coming on that late? You should be able to spin up a gt35 before that... Find a big hill and ramp 4th gear up it with someone else watching the boost? First and second will always take longer to spool.

well i can feel the the car starting to pull a bit even low down, even off boost its not that sluggish if you know what i mean, its just so smooth rather than breaking loose at the rear that i expected with a gt30 and 280ish kw,

really needs like 4500rpm and 5000rpm to really wake up, second wakes up about 4500rpm with going sideways a bit but like i said, its not as crazy as i think it should be, the tuner also said its good but it a bit of a late turbo.

Considering the compressor can probably flow 400kw of course it will be late coming on, but it should still be hitting 20psi by around 4k with the .82. There are countless reasons it may be late spooling but if you work through them you should be able to achieve that. Don't drop back to the .63, you are better off swapping the whole turbo for a gt3071 imo If you feel its too laggy.

4000rpm would be ok if it got crazy , i think ill try replacing the resonator, all the clamps with heavy duty ones, adjust boost controller, then water/meth...

if im only after 320kw should i replace the compressor with the gt compressor???

I know exactly how you feel - when I first got the car tuned I thought it would be an absolute monster and you'd get that massive kick in the guts.

It wasn't, it felt very progressive - very useable power, but not that holy sh*t feeling I was after. I was keen on response so went the .63

this is it here using the gate with a 15psi spring and a simple bleed valve ...

then I went back with just a gizzmo ms-ibc and it made a massive difference. 3 grand full boost. in first it hits probably about 4,200-4,500 (so quick can't even watch it) second about 4... etc....

But compare a kw figure... ie 140kws on yours takes to about 4100, vs about 3400 on mine, thats where the lower torque starts pushing you back in the seat.

with 20-21psi on the above dyno I got 296kw with a little detonation so I asked to take it back to 18-19.

It still isn't that lightswitch power but it is actually faster then others with those on/off turbo setups... more area under the curve is more power for tarmac.

I know you have the bigger exhaust housing but it still looks a little lazy. I also noticed on your second post up of your boost that it looks a little wavy, that could be the result of an issue?

I have also considered water meth, spoke to mafia as there is no e85 around this side of Melbourne yet. I would do it but at the moment the car is my daily and there are more important things going on, but when I want more power i'll be going straight to that.

thats a dam good power curve, you have like 45kws more at 4000rpm :yucky:

i think ill play with the boost controller tomorrow to see if it can be brought on earlier, seems like such a big job and $$ to go to a 0.63, maybe the GTX just needs alot more boost and water/meth to kick it up the arse...

it would be 6600rpm, what springs would you use then? theres some big diameter springs and narrow ones in the box, i think theres only one in the tial, i didnt put them in myself but the tuner must of used one id say.

if there is a lot of carbon build up,( stock computer with R&R for 170 000kms) then would this be enough that the timing had to be wound back say 2-3degrees? and would that mean less power and response in the whole rev range? cause that would make sense, but if others are making 300kw with 18psi how clean would there motors be?

    • Stock ECU (or more accurately stock tune) absolutely refuses to go over 10psi and behaves like you have seen. The Nistune is the same if it is the stock tune. If the Nistune chip has been tuned, the resulting tune could be literally anything for any combination of parts. The Nistune just makes the stock ECU Tunable.
    • So stock ECU does not like anything above 10 psi?  That Nistune one is just for "try" if it will be any different, I know it need to be tune for that. I know but YOU may know about these problem but i/we dont. They few little Skylines here let alone people who know anything about tham so that is why iam asking here  
    • So now we have a radiator with no attachments whatsoever. It lifts up with a particularly tight spot between the drivers side air box mount and the lower radiator outlet, but if you've got this far you will sort that too. This is the lower mounts with the rad out so you can see where the rubber bushes go, it is a straight shot upwards Done! Assembly is the reverse of disassembly, with blood less likely to be shed.
    • Right, onto the second last trick. The Air Con condenser is mounted to the front of the radiator and stays in the car when the radiator is removed. There are 2x 10mm headed self tappers holding the top of the condenser to the radiator, remove those The bottom of the condenser is attached to the radiator with clips. You need to lift the condenser out of those clips and clear (up, then forward). f**ked if  could work out how to do that last bit with the front bumper on. I hope you can, and you share the trick.  Bumper removal probably deserves its own thread one day once I've recovered the will to live, but basically you need to remove the wheels, front inner guard liners (clips and 10mm headed bolts), the self tapper between the guard and the bumper at the rearmost point of the bumper (same as an R32 that bit), any remaining clips at the top/front of the grill, an absolute bastard design with a plate that holds the top of the bumper above the headlight each side (only 1 bolt which is tricky to get to, but the plate catches 2 places on the bumper and must be removed....carefully!) and push clips between the bumper and guard under the headlight. If you've done all that you will be faced with wiring for the fog lights on both sides and in ADM Q50 RS at least, 4 nasty tight plugs on the driver's side for the ADAS stuff. So, the clips at the bottom look like this on drivers side (looking from the front) And on the passenger side (also from the front), you can see this one is already out Clearance on both of these are super tight; the condenser needs to move up but the upper rad support mount prevents that, and the radiator can't move down far because it is (rubber) mounted. Once you achieve the impossible and drop the condenser off those mounts so it does not stop the rad moving, you are good to go
    • OK, next the shroud needs to come off and there are a couple of tricks. Firstly, there is a loom from near the passenger side headlight to the fans, coolant temp sensor etc and there is no plug to undo.  In my case I was OK to leave the shroud on top of the engine so I just undid the passenger side fan plug and about 10 of the clips which gave enough free wire to put it aside. The fan plugs were super tight, the trick I used was a small falt screwdriver to push down on the release tab, then a larger flat screwdriver to lever the plug out of the fan unit....be careful with how much force you apply! If you need to remove the shroud altogether for some reason you will have to deal with all the plugs (tight) and clips (brittle)....good luck. I removed all of the clips and replaced them with cable ties that I will just cut next time. Also, in the Red Sport / 400R at least, the intake heat exchanger reservoir hose is bolted to the shroud in 2 places with 10mm headed bolts; so remove them (the hose stays in the car; no need to undo it at the t fittings down at the radiator lower mount. Once you've dealt with the HX hose and the wiring loom, there are 3x 10mm headed self tappers holding the top of the shroud to the radiator; remove those.   The shroud then lifts out of the bottom mounts where it sits on the radiator, up and onto the engine out of the way. Simples
