Check all the usual things Quality of radiator fluid, are you losing any? Thermostat fully opening? system retaining right pressure? waterpump not too wornout? condition of radiator interior ,hoses and water passeges? oil cooler? theres a start

Yep, GTRs run hot when giving them a bit of a hammering. I have been warned by many people now not to even think about taking the GTR to Q.R. until I have a nice oil cooler, a decent sump baffle setup, bigger oil pump, and bigger radiator. This has been told to me by Ernie (Skyline imports), Gavin Woods, Bruce (LEDA suspension) to name a few, and Sydneykid has also mentioned this. So unitil these things are completed on me car, my Sprint Events at Q.R. are over, not taking the risk.

I can get the oil temp in mine to the "near danger zone" with a quick drive through the mountains, hate to think what it could get to on the track.

rb26dett, you think the TRUST cooler may not be up to the task ? What experience have you had and what do you recommend ?

Squizz, I have the same problem up around Nebo, temp climbs real quick. We should organise a drive.

the oil cooler is in my car. it holds temps to just above the 70 mark on the gauge while cruising...

but when i really get into the driving, temps still creep up, albeit slower...this is all experienced on mountain runs. if u don't pay too much attention to the oil temp gauge u'll find it sitting at half in no time at all...

plus i'm running about 10 litres of engine oil with a trust sump...still the temps go up....

and the runs are done at night...hate day runs too much traffic, plus it's cooler at night...also done with heater venting into cabin...n still...problems with oil temp

What's the ambient temp in the engine bay like when the oil starts to run hot. if you can get the engine environment temp down it may help. Didn't 'Godzilla' have coolers on just about everything

Just driving normally it's bloody hot under the bonnet. Some venting may be in order...

aust spec 32 gtr has oil cooler for transfer case, that about the major difference to jdm 32 gtr. So engine/transmission/diff oil coolers are still needed (in order of preference).

I'm not sure how much the sump got heats up by the front diff and vice versa, as you can now get aftermarket front diff cover for extra oil capacity with more cooling fins.

    • Lets say I wanted to buy this, specifically for this purpose. How do I actually perform the function. Can I still buy a Consult-1?     • That's probably OK. That's a face to face compression joint between two surfaces with the clamping load provided by those bolts. So.... it's unlikely that the bolts will end up feeling that load in shear, unless the clamping surfaces are not large enough, bolts not got enough tension on them, etc etc to prevent the two faces from moving wrt each other. Which... I would hope the designers have considered, seeing as it's probably one of the most important things the upright has to do apart from resist collapsing in its own right. But yes, it would definitely be worth asking them what their safety factor on that part of the design was. I tend to think that the casting, being a casting, is not necessarily the strongest bit of material in the world. It's about an inch square, and when you think about the loads that are being put into it, you have to wonder what safety factor the Nissan boys (and every other OEM engineer who has designed all the millions of other uprights that look essentially the same) used to account for defective casting, aging, severe impacts on the wheel, etc etc. 
    • Those bolts would be orders of magnitude stronger that cast aluminium though.  And its mainly clamping force, not shear they are dealing with?
    • Except all that twisting force that is breaking a cast piece, appears to be going through 4 bolts in the picture Johnny posted of the BryPar one...
    • The smart approach is to use the gearbox loom from the manual car. Makes it a lot easier - just plugs into the switches on the box and plugs into the main loom up near the fusebox. Then you only need to deal with bypassing the inhibit switch. The other approach requires you to use the wiring diagram to identify those wires by colour and location, perhaps even indulging in a little multimeter action to trace them end to end to make sure, and then.... you will have the answers you need. The R34 wiring diagram is available on-line (no, I do not have a link to it myself - I would have to do a search if I wasn't able to go to the copy I have at home).
