Yep, you're doomed. Tried and proven to be rubbish.

To OP: put a proper Garrett .82-IW rear on it and all your problems should be solved. You might also have leaks or otherwise as suggested, but at least you then know the housing isn't the issue (which they all are)

If you know what your doing you can try ramping up the boost with the AVCR, ive had the same lazy boost issues recently with my gtx3076, finally found the intake manifold gasket had been blown out , also wondering about the resonator if it has a restrictor inside like the old muffler had in it.

yepp this.

you need to get rid of that Sonic POS before you go any further.

genuine garrett .82 internal gate will be perfect. dont need external gate for your goals.

there probably is a leak somewhere, yet the point is good luck trying to diagnose poor performance (once the would be leak is found) if that housing is still on it.

I think OP accepts that fact tho, so its fine. it will take some work to get it right, but hes on the right track now.

Hey guys sorry to hijack, im new to the rb life, looking at buying a r33 rb25, gt3076r .82, highmount steampipe, 40mm ext gate, 880cc injectors, walbro pump and haltech platinum pro, claimed to make 306 rwkw on 14psi.

Does that sound right??

Thanks

Awaiting more info in it, fairly sure its pump fuel, also pretty sure it uses standard inlet manifold as it has a blitz turnflow cooler, unsure of internal mods cam pistons ect. just wanted a rough idea if it possible dyno sheet is supplied for 306 but cant tel from pic what boost its on

lithium has made similar numbers on similar boost. i think 17psi makes 300 without stress and a good tune

300 on 14psi is probably a slightly happy dyno and more like 280kw on a more sensible one

still sounds the goods :)

Internate gate is fine, figure out why it is laggy and not working, the fact that it isn't making 18psi until 5500 means the wastegate is flowing perfectly, if it was a wastegate issue you'd be boost spiking.

Do all the usual stuff like smoke test the intake, check the actuator isn't loose and the gate is sealing, drop exhaust, get the tune checked out etc etc.

edit: those housings get poor results, just do a search to see the guys before you and what they found, 0.63 or 0.82 housing will be a big upgrade, depends how much response you want.

Does it run e85 or wmi?

If its just 98 the number is plausible on 18-20psi or a really happy hub dyno

generally we see 280 @19psi so yeah 304 on 14psi is extremely unlikely.

Had another on on today, twin scroll dual tials and made 290rwkw @19psi neo motor. full boost around 3400-3500.

That sounds like it'd be awesome and is a good result for a car on 98, was it with a 6boost manifold?

Bigger cams or stock?

could you screw much more boost into it on 98?

Would anyone be able to post what this genuine Garrett GT30 .82 IW rear housing looks like please for reference. Now that I know my MTQ housing is rubbish.

this is the one, shop around tho..

    • I don't know it is due to that. It could just be due to load on track being more than a dyno. But it would be nice to rule it out. We're talking a fraction of a second of pulling ~1 degree of timing. So it's not a lot, but I'd rather it be 0... Thicker oil isn't really a "bandaid" if it's oil that is going to run at 125C, is it? It will be thicker at 100 and thus at 125, where the 40 weight may not be as thick as one may like for that use. I already have a big pump that has been ported. They (They in this instance being the guy that built my heads) port them so they flow more at lower RPM but have a bypass spring that I believe is ~70psi. I have seen 70psi of oil pressure up top in the past, before I knew I had this leak. I have a 25 row oil cooler that takes up all the space in the driver side guard. It is interesting that GM themselves recommend 0-30 oil for their Vette applications. Unless you take it to the track where the official word is to put 20-50w oil in there, then take that back out after your track day is done and return to 0-30.
    • Nice, looks great. Nice work getting the factory parts also. Never know when you'll need them.
    • Thanks @jtha7 I will have a look around tomorrow but it is a prick of a spot. These are some photos i tried taking
    • I take it that the knock retard is from bearings tapping a little tune? Thicker oil is a fragile bandaid. You need a much bigger oil cooler and probably the bigger pump being discussed.
    • Hi @Chupapy i had several leaks from coolant pipes being corroded, i also had one leak on back of the head onto transmission. For me that leak was from the turbo water line. Follow the line to the back of the head The hose and metal pipe had perished these are the best pics I took of it at the time
