Has any one attempted to convert a rwd r33 gtst to awd using gtr or gts4 parts. Help is need with as much info and advice as posible. Is this as simple as bolting awd bits in or not

yeh but i have over a 100g spent on my r33 body and dont realy wanna repeat the same prosess on another car. Makes sence to me to spend 10g on mine then buy another and spending 100g to get it to the same specs as mine

This is one of those questions that is pointless. This is because it is possible to buy a car that is already the way you want it to be (4WD) and you don't have to bankrupt yourself and drive yourself insane trying to convert a 2WD chassis to 4WD.

i bought this car a a bit of a show pony. now its a fully built 30/26 and hopeing to make some big number and would like the 4wd traction and handling to go with it. not into rwd drifting or skidding

If you have the cash flow mate then go for it, People are just jealous. Yes easier to get a AWD to begin with, But like you said, Youve spent 100k, Whats another 10k if it going to be exactally what you want and need.

I think it would be quite a big project though, BEst off getting the atessa pro unit form a vspec GTR, They are quite a bit quicker in sending info.

Transfercase, G sensors, Will need wheels to be same rolling diamator to keep the AWD happy.

Atessa pump will need to be set up in the boot?

will also need atessa ECU mounted in the boot aswell

try looking into a wrecked R33 GTS4, Uses the same drivetrain as the GTR, Body wise its a gtst, just using a 26de and gtr running gear.

Shafts, ect should all swap over

This pretty much

Just find a straight shell, paint it and use the drivetrain etc plus all your stuff in it. Easier then converting yours and risking it being slightly unbalanced/dodgy or something like that.

So put an auto into it and use decent tyres. Weight wins when it comes to handling.

Either way as stated you'd basically need an entire car to donate. It's not a simple case of bolting on parts. You need looms, ECUs, G-sensors and everything else to go with it. It's not a simple job by any means of the word.

ok thanks for the info. I think i might try and sell mine as a complete rolla less motor and get a gtr or gts4 and start all over again and cut my losses.

Any one interested in a show car rolla.lol

    • How much have you lowered?  I had 350Z springs in the rear and was able to pull the camber into factory spec with the factory arms on the rear, obviously the front ran negative camber as it isn't adjustable, but rotating the wheels regularly evened out the wear.
    • Either the installer needs to come back, you need an auto electrician, or you need to learn automotive electricals yourself.   First step Id look at is where that big thing came out of, is there still things unplugged at that location? Maybe they just forgot to put a relay in or something?
    • Well, this is probably where a wiring diagram and a multimeter come into play.
    • I can say to anyone thats doing this; having done a number of R clusters; just be careful if its an unknown cluster.  It takes a bit of force to pull up; but if it feels excessive then its probably stuck. I've had this and pulled the entire hair spring out; and I can tell you; its not easy getting the correct spring replacement with the correct inner diameter and winding. In my case someone had used some sort of adhesive to stick it to the spindle and it pulled the whole spindle out; which the force seperated the hairspring from the spindal and caused it to deform.  You may have to clean it (IPA); or in my case if i'd known i should have used some sort of solvent on it.  Also check out Cruizin Central on eBay. He does all sorts of dials; and you can email him with any custom designs you want. So if you want like certain logos etc...he'll send you a mock of what it will look like then you accept the order and he'll take care of the rest. Fantastic dials and he can do basically any design you want.
    • Have you confirmed its the actual axles? Also the wheel bearings that mount on the hubs to hold the axles wear out. I replaced mine as they got play in them. It sorted my play issue.
