my r34 gtt had been sitting for a while and i just had new oil chucked in, plugs, and cranked her over (open dump ) and the turbo spat a fair bit of oil out the dump? could my turbo be gone? its got no shaft play, no stuffed fins, physicly looks great ? i dont really want a turbo upgrade as it was fine for my likings previously

anybody got a idea? theres also abit of oil in the front of the turbo aswell :(?

oil in front -blow by recirculation (normal)

oil out dump- slight wear on valve guides allowed a few drops in the chambers from sitting so long , got burnt on first start up.?

yeah well it was a lil wild i took pics of the fins etc, im not running any more boost then standard so I wouldn't of assumed its popped as the fins are perfect too, a whole oily smoke cloud and a cough up of oil came out the dump( first time start today since march or april . I haven't attempted to start it again after the oily incident

hard to say without the history of the car etc, sounds odd, at times like that with long periods of not starting i always disconnect fuel pump, and make sure i crank the engine for a while to make sure it has some oil in the top end before starting it.. starting to sound like a blown turbo seal, you shouldnt have actual oil coughing out i dont think.. :whistling:

Well you can start by checking engine oil level making sure it’s not over filled and the rubber on the hard oil drain pipe is not kinked or blocked. The turbocharger usually leak out oil from both ends if it can't drain oil fast enough or can't drain at all.

Once above has been checked with any issues repaired, start and idle the car for couple of mints see if the smoke clears away.

If not it would be likely been that this turbocharger needs a service, Do check out our turbocharger high flowing thread and alternative options available if that appears to be the case.

how much oil is in the sump, have you made sure the oil is actually returning in the sump or the sump isnt way over full like hypergear said?

i was of the opinion that the oil flowing thru the turbo and down that return was not a great amount, so to be flushing out the mouth kind of sounds like theres a blockage... id investigate more before turbo replacement...

the oil return line was replaced by me flange and all fitted and a new hose was fitted, had so much flow could compare to a radiator hose... (sarcasm) and the feed lie has no dints not damaged everything was fine...if i run the motor with the feed and return DCd i should see oil come through the feed line correct? ill double check it tomorow.. all i know is ill be chasing a r33 turbo if anyone has one there keen to get rid of?

another theory was that it could have been heaps of blow by that went through intake and out the top feed of the turbo? i put 4.2L of oil in my neo, dipstick reads perfect, :(

Im running a impul r34 computer.. im not sure what its capable of, but if i bolt another turbo onto it and run a few pounds more, will the computers air fuel ratio work it out so i wouldnt require a retune? or will i need a whole new computer all up?

well you have your breather tube that goes into your intake ? from your covers? Just a theory , but what if oil had come through there and out the top (intercooler pipe) I really wanna sus this out just so i have a good understanding of the problem im currently facing!

Id find it hard to believe that oil thats been sitting in your intercooler and piping could get sucked up enough to spit oil out exhaust at idle, I know what you mean though, and very possible theres oil in your intake, but cant see that much getting in? Have you tried starting it again?

    • I've looked up the parts number (41011AL501). It's around $700 OEM. Usually our Infiniti G35 here in Canada have interchangeable parts with my Stagea but the parts number are not the same. I have looked around and it seems the JDM 2005 V35 Skyline (which is the same as our G35) has the same caliper but I cannot confirm. And I can't find a repair kit. The inner brake pads drags on the rotor, seems to be rusty piston. Thanks for the info by the way
    • This coupled with 6-9 speed autos with ridiculously short gearing is why these modern shitbox cars always seem so fast off the line. If it wasn't for those things, Raptors would not seem fast. The problem we have is there is a driveability gap between a more gentle take off and a wheelspinning sideways launch. The difference between ankle flex required to achieve one and ankle flex required to achieve the other is about 0.5°.
    • Yeah I think I'm also with the opposite here. It's 'hard to keep up with traffic' because in the real world I'm accelerating with 15% throttle and they are pinning it. It feels like I'm being an overt dickhead at anything above 15% throttle, so the car sounds like I'm being an overt dickhead to keep up with/get ahead of traffic when I'm really just trying to drive with traffic. There would be no issue 'keeping up with traffic' if we used the same level of throttle input/aggression to drive around. People really do just drive around with their foot nearly pinned in econoboxes.
    • To be fair it's the other way around. 300kw is boring in a modern Golf or BMW. They are so competent / well-engineered / devoid of emotion that you have to go stupid fast to feel anything. Whereas the <300kw RB still makes all the right noises and it feels good to drive. Can pull off at the lights with the turbo whooshing and the blow-off pssshing and feel like the coolest kid on the block. Just don't look to the side where you'll see the bored housewifes in their shitbox Yaris/Corolla/Camry that kept up because you didn't go fast at all
    • 300kW is so boring in a Skyline, you'll get spanked by someone's mum's Golf with Alibaba pipes, and an email tune.
