i would be suprised if it didnt cope, me and my tuner are amazed how good this stuff is, im running no more than 20knock on the power fc... its sweet as

but you'd be silly not to do a GTR intercooler atleast... my intercooler was only $400 and $300 to fit up so dont try and be cheap with it or you'll end up getting a crap result..

wow.. just saw you got 3L twin... man that has massive potential with some decent turbo's and E85... happy times ahead if that is done right.. a 300zx was my second choice of car if i didnt get the r33...

well, judge me all you like, im just saying 20psi 320kw and very very little knock with 6degrees of extra timing ...

im confident that this fuel would do ok with only 14psi and conservative timing and still make some decent numbers, but i did say put an intercooler on it didnt i??

ill say again.. its very good fuel and you can achieve above and beyond 98 ,, my tuner will vouch for that too

less than 5knock just means your soft cock lol :P

I'm still pondering whether i should go the WMI route or the E70 route. A water/meth kit is cheaper than new injectors and a pump. Not 100% sold either way due to my setup not being that "hard core" but needing one or the other to put any useable boost in. The Base Map i'm using for it has 15 degree's removed from peak torque and 5 degrees removed up top and was used in a similar setup on only 7psi.

dunno what you guys are on about really.. do you actually run flex fuel or are you guessing about it, cause i watched my car on the dyno and being tuned by Gavin Woods whom i fully have confidence and respect for... does an awesome job and absolutely safe tunes... when you go get a job as a tuner and succeed like he has then come back and preach your knowledge with results like he has and then ill agree with you..MAYBE

just trying to help with some constructive comments.. GL with it the 300ZX should love it.. ive drove a 300ZX non turbo and turbo and even the non turbo had balls so will be interesting whatever you do

lol... interesting way to gauge the effectiveness of a fuel???

Well considering the RON (research octane number) value is measured via knock feedback on a variable compression engine I would suggest that you would be able to make some fairly valuable results from monitoring knock levels with 98 vs e85.

To the original poster if you are knock limited than you obviously need higher octane fuel to achieve a better result/higher knock resistance. An intercooled will help cool the charge making it less prone to det but will not aid in octane. Wmi will do both these things. If it were my car I would make the intercooled fit and run e70 - this is obviously the best solution..

Ethanol is just like methanol. It would work well without an intercooler. Obviously E70 isn't as good as methanol so the cooling effect isn't going to be as good.

I'd still run one, not worth the disadvantage

From what I've seen e85 vs methanol - it is nowhere as good at keeping temps down. We had no cooling issues with a methanol injected 350chev - swap to e85 bam, not enough coolant capacity/radiator and we had heating issues. This was a drag car with small radiator.

You only need to look at the extra volume of fuel required compared to e85 to see where the cooling comes from.

Thier point was the fact your tune does not knock has little to do with the fuel and more about the state of the tune. And basically overall your intercooled results are irrelevant for this thread. So more-to the point, no-one is sure what you are on about!

To the OP - VL's were running what, 5psi through a small T3 and were ok and you could get upto around 8-10psi IIRC. This is back in the 80s :)

That said - it's not just about the amount of boost.

14psi through a t04Z or 14psi through a stock GTS-t turbo? Two very different ends of the field and resulting heat. saying "14psi" isn't relevant in it's current context really without knowing the entire setup. Your setup will also be quite sensitive for sustained use as well as heat increases.

You'd need to get a few sensors going IMO and monitor it carefully and work your way up. It might be fine now in cooler months, and all of a sudden one warm day, 1hr drive and all of a sudden you've got stones under the bonnet

    • Man, different parts but the same numbers is terrible @dbm7! And it doesn't help that most online shops don't list the part numbers at all. They just give a list of compatible models...
    • Slow when hot could also be because its getting more dynamic compression, OR things are getting a bit tighter once it is all expanded. If it were an earthing issue, typically I'd expect you to have it have issues all the time. Unless it's really a combination of both things. Where the higher compression, and things being a bit tighter, is giving that bit of extra load and you do need a slight clean up on the cables/connections.
    • Yeah, this is one of the most annoying things about nissan part numbers... I've got an unrelated example... Image is of the AT output shaft ~ they have the same part#, but clearly the shaft on the left is beefier design to that on the right ...the difference (essentially) is the 'lighter' shaft on the right, is for engines up to RB25DE (this includes RB20 variants) : the shaft on the left is for RB25/26DET(T)....are they interchangeable? Yes...but obviously one shaft is going to be stronger than the other...and, the lighter shaft is around USD115, but the heavier shaft closer to USD150...same part#... ...epc-data usually tells a tale ~ the amayama listing for 39100-23U60 has a note "Longest side is between 60 and 105 cm" ; no such info is there for 39100-23U70 ...and given the great disparity in price between the 2 parts, it makes me at least curious (to the point of caution) where the 'extra money' went? ...ie; these 2 parts have a cost difference that (to myself at least) isn't explained by 'plastic boot'...ie; with amayama there's AUD700 price difference ...plastic versus rubber?...I'm not seeing it like that...and 60cm ~ 105cm...??...that's a huge disparity....something hinky going on here... I'd try searching by VIN, not model... /2cents
    • I don't know for sure, but I'd expect them all to be interchangeable given the diff end and hub end don't move/change between any C34 series. Often Nissan will change part numbers and the aftermarket follows those year ranges; but the original part number change doesn't mean other parts won't fit. The change could be a change in material, internal parts or even just supplier. For example, all the RB gearbox to engine bolts are no longer available and there is a new part number instead. The only change is they went from cadmium plated bolts to zinc plated due to the issues manufacturing with Cadmium. They look different but work the same.
