I'm going to be purchasing new rims, but I was just wondering if my 235mm wide tyres will fit onto a 9.5" rim, or will it be stretching it too much? Would it be safer to stretch it a little bit to 9" instead?

Also, what is the stud pattern for a 98' r34 GT-T? is it 5x114.3?

thanks!

I have 245s on 9.5" and they are pretty stretched, personally I wouldn't consider going any more stretch, I'm already debating on whether to go wider on my next set of tyres or not.

245 is legal sizing on a 9.5, 235 on a 9, all depends on the offset of the rim as to what tyre you will want + gaurd work.

What you mean "legal size"?

I got checked by the cops with their little laptop and running 265's they said was fine?

275's need the guards rolled (just touching)

Yeah legal sizing, 9" = 235 to 265 iirc.

Many of you guys won't like my mates S15 with 225s on a 10 then hey...

Its not bad at all :)

Hope it helps!

235 might be 'stretching it' on a 9.5". It'll be better to run 255 with just a slight stretch, plus the price difference between a 235 and a 255 is not that big.

Think of it this way, the width of a proper sized tyre will never have full contact on the road. Now imagine running an even narrower width tyre with hardly any contact on the road... you might as well run 4 push bike wheels.

I am not a fan of stretching at all. Tyres are made with a rim width in mind, if you stretch your tyre no longer behaves the same. The middle section will bow upwards and you'll have uneven wear, not to mention less traction.

If you want to run 235, I suggest you get a x8 or x8.5" rim. Even a 235 on a x9 rim looks stupid.

I know people will say "but there's more wall stiffness", then I will say, why don't you buy a decent tyre from the start for wall stiffness?

Each to their own really, I'm not a fan of the "hellagayflush" look.

I'm with you on the stretch topic, not a fan... BUT i ran those old tyres to get the car dyno'd as its all i had lying around, they have since been donated to the tyre gods above :woot:

The 275's are a trial, if they work well ill stick with them, if not ill go back to 265's as they have been tried and tested on my car for a few years AND like i mentioned have been checked by cops and are OK

Hey Mat, Do those 275's fit under the guard or is your suspension sitting high? thats 9.5 wide with what off set?

also what tyre have you found to hold down your power if you have?

    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
    • Should replace OR drop the tank, give it's good clean. Might be worth replacing that entire fuel level/pump/cradle thing with this: https://frenchysperformancegarage.com/products/fpg-s13-180sx-r32gtst-single-pump-hanger-kit-billet-hat-6-v3-fpg-089?gQT=2
