I thought these turbos were very smiliar, based on the same trim. However, I was going to pull the trigger on GT2530 and then my friend came to me and said that the -5 is actually rated at 360hp while the gt2530 is only 320hp.

can you please shed some light on these 2 ratings?

Same rear housing, turbine wheel and comp cover. There is 1.1 mm difference in the comp wheel, the 2530 being the larger of the two.

See if Elrodeo666 gets in here and tells you what HKS said themselves about these two.

Don't have time to search the part numbers but if you are comparing a "GT2530" to a GT2860RS in RB26 housings then yes cartridge wise the only difference is minor variations in the compressor wheels . On paper the RS is a 62 trim 60.1mm OD wheel where the 2530s is a 63 trim 60.1mm wheel .

Its not just all in the inducer size and exducer tip heights will make a difference .

Also I think HKS does their own turbine housings but not sure if there is any significant difference internally , both are 0.64 AR .

If you want the original chico roll and can find used ones to freshen all you need is the HKS supplied turbine housings compressors and compressor housings .

You could also inquire about buying the HKS spec cartridges from Garrett because sometimes they can supply HKS spec cartridges . You would have to check but from memory the cartridge number is 446179-21 .

I'm doing spirited drive and drag mostly. I pretty much maxed my gt-ss so I decided it was time to go a step higher.. I will ask my tuner to play with timing so hopefully we can turn a little the powerband to the left and I might add a carbon shaft to try to get ake it as responsive as my actual setup but with the topend of these.

I notice one thing people never do with GTSS turbos is experiment with the next size up compressoe housings . I don't remember exactly the dimensions of the GT2859R compressors but they are not exactly tiny in the GT25/GT28 world . I think Garrett intended GTSSs to use a housing very similar if not the same as std turbos and it was intended to help make these turbos wind up early - or earlier than your typical GT2860R turbo .

GTSSs use the same RB26 specific (compact type) 0.64 AR turbine housing as most Garrett 26 type bolt on turbos and the main hot side difference is the 62 rather than 76 trim size of their NS111 turbines .

Once you step up from an RB26 specific GTSS to a GT2860R type turbo you get the larger compressor housing and the larger trim turbine .

Something to research is the four cylinder version of the GTSS because it uses the big or 76 trim NS111 turbine but its compressor is a 60.1mm 60T rather than the 62/63 trims of the GT2860RS/ "GT2530" compressor wheels .

I spoke to a local turbo shop and they offered to convert my gt2860-r to the spec of the RS or even the gtx2863r.

I understand what your means and your advice are great but I think I rather work around the -5 than the gt-ss. aybe I'm wrong but I think this way will be easier than the other way around.. not to say that the gt-ss have a good resale value.

    • Hi, SteveL Thank you very much for your reply, you seem to be the only person on the net who has come up with a definitive answer for which I am grateful. The "Leak" was more by way of wet bubbles when the pedal was depressed hard by a buddy while trying to gey a decent pedal when bleeding the system having fitted the rebuilt BM50 back in the car, which now makes perfect sense. A bit of a shame having just rebuilt my BM50, I did not touch the proportioning valve side of things, the BM50 was leaking from the primary piston seal and fluid was running down the the Brake booster hence the need to rebuild, I had never noticed any fluid leaking from that hole previously it only started when I refitted it to the car. The brake lines in the photo are "Kunifer" which is a Copper/Nickel alloy brake pipe, but are only the ones I use to bench bleed Master cylinders, they are perfectly legal to use on vehicles here in the UK, however the lines on the car are PVF coated steel. Thanks again for clearing this up for me, a purchase of a new BMC appears to be on the cards, I have been looking at various options in case my BM50 was not repairable and have looked at the HFM BM57 which I understand is manufactured in Australia.  
    • Well the install is officially done. Filled with fluid and bled it today, but didn't get a chance to take it on a test drive. I'll throw some final pics of the lines and whatnot but you can definitely install a DMAX rack in an R33 with pretty minor mods. I think the only other thing I had to do that isn't documented here is grind a bit of the larger banjo fitting to get it to clear since the banjos are grouped much tighter on the DMAX rack. Also the dust boots from a R33 do not fit either fyi, so if you end up doing this install for whatever reason you'll need to grab those too. One caveat with buying the S15 dust boots however is that the clamps are too small to fit on the R33 inner tie rod since they're much thicker so keep the old clamps around. The boots also twist a bit when adjusting toe but it's not a big deal. No issues or leaks so far, steering feels good and it looks like there's a bit more lock now than I had before. Getting an alignment on Saturday so I'll see how it feels then but seems like it'll be good to go       
    • I don't get in here much anymore but I can help you with this.   The hole is a vent (air relief) for the brake proportioning valve, which is built into the master cylinder.    The bad news is that if brake fluid is leaking from that hole then it's getting past the proportioning valve seals.   The really bad news is that no spare parts are available for the proportioning valve either from Nissan or after market.     It's a bit of a PITA getting the proportioning valve out of the master cylinder body anyway but, fortunately, leaks from that area are rare in my experience. BTW, if those are copper (as such) brake lines you should get rid of them.    Bundy (steel) tube is a far better choice (and legal  in Australia - if that's where you are).
