Just wanted to know what the fine for running a decat pipe is, and whether anyone's been done for it? I hear the fine is something ridiculous like $10,000 and mobile EPA officers at defect stations can d!ck you for this simply by getting an emissions reading and extrapolating the fact your car is passing out very dirty gases.....can someone shed some light on this?

EPA victoria will apply to you: http://epanote2.epa..../$FILE/1031.pdf

Bare minimum fine looks like $1000 (1 penalty unit). If you knew how many penalty units having a decat would give, add 3 zero's on the end.

If I had to guess, you would get 1 penalty unit for every exhaust gas (nitrogen, water vapour, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons, particulate matter, sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxide, ozone?, lead?) which a cat converter would otherwise have dealt with on some scale.

So it's easy to see where the $10,000 fine can come from.

I would never run a decat Terry, I was just wondering because I was having this conversation with a mate and he told me the fine was in the vicinity of 10k which I found hard to believe :I

Holy @#$*, I don't know why people have them and run the risk of copping a 22k fine :/

I have never heard of anyone getting that sort of fine, Its not somethign that you can test really test for on the raod, Nor can your avg joe cop.

though if you rocked up to EPA with a decat you deserve the full ammount, Keep a stock cat on hand.

its not like your 100 cell cat will pass emmisions anyway.

^ this

all rumours, who do you know personally that has been fined? no one.

In NSW a penalty unit is $110, not $1000.

CRIMES (SENTENCING PROCEDURE) ACT 1999 - SECT 17

Penalty units

17 Penalty units

Unless the contrary intention appears, a reference in any Act or statutory rule to a number of penalty units (whether fractional or whole) is taken to be a reference to an amount of money equal to the amount obtained by multiplying $110 by that number of penalty units.

    • We have a huge update coming in the next few months, version 5 of Invision will be released. I'm holding off any changes until after this change as I'm not sure what features will be removed or introduced.
    • Yeah, plenty of air flow, there is a dedicated path that feeds the air in to the OEM intake tube behind the bumper As for a "tangible effect", maybe, but getting the pod/intake air out of the hot engine bay is worth it psychologically to me, even if it gives no performance difference, so the tangible effect in my Lizard brain saysss yessss  In the end, to me a tangible effect isn't always about performance, sometimes it a sound or a look, or even a...... feeling  Ooga-Chaka Ooga-Ooga Ooga-Chaka Ooga-Ooga Ooga-Chaka Ooga-Ooga Ooga-Chaka Ooga-Ooga
    • yeah first and reverse is where you will find clutch release issues (whether hydraulic or mechanical) because the difference in revs required is the highest there; particularly changing down from 2nd to 1st when still moving. To be clearer though, it is possible that the clutch release bearing is the wrong height. This is less likely than a hydraulic issue but it is not unheard of when you are mixing and matching
    • Quite right, if you make it to that pension you deserve every cent
    • Hi all, Restoring r33 series 1 rb25det. All the heater hoses were on their way out, have replaced them and put it all back together. After testing I noticed a small leak from behind the head on the actual metal water line to the turbo when cars warm. I tried running a longer hose over it but it kept leaking...   I am about to take the (stock) manifold off again😔 to change the water line does any one have any lines they recommend? I was looking at Aeroflow Turbo Oil & Water Line Set but not sure what everyone else recommends. Car is completely stock but want to upgrade turbo eventually. it looks like ill have to disconnect a lot just to replace these lines so if there's anything else recommended to do please let me know. Thank you in advance!
