Hey,

Starting to get a bit more serious with the selling of my 33' GTS-t and was wondering how have people gone about selling their cars if it was fairly modified?

I know for sure to get a RWC you need good tread on tyres, wiper blades are good, all lights work and brakes are all good amongst other safety checks but was more wondering if things like a high-mount turbo, different plenum, aftermarket ECU etc. can cause a workshop to knock back giving out a RWC?

I guess when the car does sell, this question is bound to get asked so thought I'd ask now so I have the answers when I need it :)

Cheers.

Anything illegal should not pass road worthy.

You are better off bringing the car back to stock. And selling off all the other bits seperately. May take longer, but you will make more money

Thanks for the reply Aaron. Was this how you went about selling your S14 also?

I really don't want to part the car out as I find it to be a very good balance for street duties and would prefer someone appreciate it as it is :(

You'll generally get away with things like ECUs, injectors and stock looking aftermarket turbos, but high mounts, big front mounts, pods filters and anything glaringly obvious will likely not slip through a roady.

Mine was basically stock looking engine wise. Still had the airbox low mount.

Yeh it was externally gated but it was extremely well hidden.

Dammit. So I guess parting it out will be my only option I guess. You guys reckon it could be a good diea to find someone who has a stock R33 GTS-t and wants the goods and just do a changeover? Or would I be better off just trawling the classifieds and looking for stock parts and do my own swap?

BAHAHAHAH 101%?!?!?! Can you PM who did the RWC for you? They sound like reasonable and realistic testers.

Don't get me wrong, no way would I get a RWC that would skimp on things like tyres, lights, brakes etc (eg. stuff that will KILL the seller if it wasn't up to scratch), just more so looking for a "rational" workshop that realises that a pod filter won't murder someone LOL

thats a neat looking bay, sunkist. I'm a big fan of the 'modified to look OEM' theme. Black wrinkle paint, black joiners, clamps and hoses, hidden wiring etc makes things, at first glance, seem very inoffensive to Mr Plod. If you get asked to lift the bonnet, and there is nothing to catch the eye - there is a good chance they won't look any harder.

The same goes for RWC. These days, because the tester has to take photos of the bay - so long as it 'looks' relatively stock (even if it is far from it) - they will be likely to pass it. All their worried about is anything that would flag further investigation if Vic Roads/Vic Pol ever pulls up the images.

This is something a lot of people don't think about when they go nuts modifying, polishing, chroming, putting in braided hose and anodized fittings.....

This was my RB30ET - I got this through RWC (with catch can removed). By no means a wild motor - but it was in a car that didn't come turbo. I changed that throttle body joiner to black silicon, had a black FMIC cooler, GTR BOV's plumbed back and hidden down low in the front bar, boxed up filter, and a few mufflers to keep it quiet......

Thanks smokey, yeh i like the stock theme... I had that thing at 270kw, and the engine bay sure didnt look like it lol!

just sell without roady if its that hard.

worth taking to a shop and doing a test, and have them tell you what it needs to pass.. will give you a good idea of it all.

but yeh my roady guy didnt mind much for mods, as long as it was all mounted correctly and safely and didnt look like a backyard job he was fine.

he was more thorough with the safety of the car.. he failed me for a slight scratch on the windshield, and inner guards.. fixed em and passed

Thanks Smokey, will keep that in mind if I decide not to part out.

Aaron, your mechanic (and GTRRKT's mechanic) sounds like the sorta bloke I'd be looking to as I still want him to pick me up on safety things but not get picky because the car is not "standard".

Everything is mounted/installed correctly (I'm a Mechancial Engineer and fussy as all hell LOL) so defiently not a backyard jobby. Could you PM some details so I can have a chat to him when the time arises (I can't PM anyone for some reason)?

Thnaks guys!

Thanks GTRRKT! Nice and clean engine bay mate, pretty much exactly how I want my (future haha) R34 GTR to look under the bonnet.

Mint brakes too btw, are they Alcons or AP? Or soemthing compeltely different?

My bay looks like this and comapred to the other clean and stealthy engine bays shown, I don't think I'd be able to get away with much unless I low-mount and paint things matt black?

Andrew,

Sad to see you're selling up she's a beaut, for you to get a RWC, you'd have to take the plenum out and cover the hole on drivers side as it's illegal to have a hole there.

Looks like either change the setup to 'stock' looking (stock plenum, return flow FMIC) or return it to stock is the way to go, unless you find someone who is willing to look other way.

All the best in the sale.

Hey Grant, long time no speak mate.

Yeah unfortunatley it's time for the 33 to go :(

I had a feeling I'm going to have to weld up that hole (which is no biggy) and return to stock, but hopefully I'll find a mechanic who is a bit more "relaxed" regarding aftermarket mods.

Any particular reason for the 33 to go? Not driving it enough?

Had fun with the broken turbos? Is it great conversation starter yeah?

It'd be a shame to change the bay, it is pretty one...

Selling for a few reasons actually. One being not getting driven enough, two being needing a house deposit and thirdly I don't need 2 cars LOL

Yeah, the turbos have been great fun haha I haven't touched the munched one yet though, still on the look out for a new compressor so I can replace it. Next step I'm thinking of getting some manifolds and dumps and have it all mounted up so it shows the exhaust side of a RB26 :) Definetly a convo starter for sure.

Yeah, that's what's putting me off from changing it back to stock. Would much rather someone enjoy it in its current state. Thanks for the kind words mate :)

Can't remember the name of the place where I got my RWC but I will PM you anyway.

The car pulled 1.01G (G force) while braking from 45km/h with cold brakes lol. He was quite impressed.

He passed this:

Getting rwc as a buyer is a world apart from getting one when your the seller

Getting rwc as a buyer is a world apart from getting one when your the seller

oh how i agree with this statement.

I had to convince my RWC guy that I was selling the car to a 'close mate'

and the only reason I got it was because he was friends with an uncle of fime.. so I dont think he'll do it again for anyone else

hes specific words "if I didnt know who you were i'd probably tell you i'm not touching it"

    • I feel I should re-iterate. The above picture is the only option available in the software and the blurb from HP Tuners I quoted earlier is the only way to add data to it and that's the description they offer as to how to figure it out. The only fields available is the blank box after (Input/ ) and the box right before = Output. Those are the only numbers that can be entered.
    • No, your formula is arse backwards. Mine is totally different to yours, and is the one I said was bang on at 50 and 150. I'll put your data into Excel (actually it already is, chart it and fit a linear fit to it, aiming to make it evenly wrong across the whole span. But not now. Other things to do first.
    • God damnit. The only option I actually have in the software is the one that is screenshotted. I am glad that I at least got it right... for those two points. Would it actually change anything if I chose/used 80C and 120C as the two points instead? My brain wants to imagine the formula put into HPtuners would be the same equation, otherwise none of this makes sense to me, unless: 1) The formula you put into VCM Scanner/HPTuners is always linear 2) The two points/input pairs are only arbitrary to choose (as the documentation implies) IF the actual scaling of the sensor is linear. then 3) If the scaling is not linear, the two points you choose matter a great deal, because the formula will draw a line between those two points only.
    • Nah, that is hella wrong. If I do a simple linear between 150°C (0.407v) and 50°C (2.98v) I get the formula Temperature = -38.8651*voltage + 165.8181 It is perfectly correct at 50 and 150, but it is as much as 20° out in the region of 110°C, because the actual data is significantly non-linear there. It is no more than 4° out down at the lowest temperatures, but is is seriously shit almost everywhere. I cannot believe that the instruction is to do a 2 point linear fit. I would say the method I used previously would have to be better.
