Recently did some work to my GTR, and now my alarm system is no longer working >_<

I am unsure of specifics as it was already on the car when i bought it, but i know it is a viper system.

None of the features work, It seems the alarm is not physically on.

Just had my car dyno tuned with a apexi power fc, would installing the power fc had some effect on the alarm or could the power just have gone?

Any advice on where to start trouble shooting will be great,

Also note - the alarm has a switch to enable and disable remote start, flicked it in either position and it has no effect. Receiver just beeps at me as if its trying to send the signal but it never gets received.

I take it if i follow the cable from the speaker/siren or the remote start switch toggle it should lead me to the alarm system itself?

dealer can do it. that said I *MAY* have the book for it at the shop. wont be until monday though.

I have the guide book for 2008 , 5901

Shoot me a pm with your email addy to send it over

Random question - My car siren/speaker kept going off randomly. Sometimes it would be sweet for day's, othertimes it would just keep going off. So i ended up disconnecting it.

Now, is it the fault of the alarm or the siren itself (why did it keep going off?)

if its just the siren, can i just replace it and job done?

Or do i need a whole new alarm

If the alarm siren is more then 2.5-3 years old or the car battery has been run flat during that time

The internal siren battery could be faulty and needs replaced , if the siren horn has a stamp on the nose 515esp or 515r it's more the likely due for replacement , the new one is smaller and lots louder way more annoying for crims lol

the above models fail at the 3 yr mark in most case or leak around the key if gasket is missing

do not disconnect

Car thieves favourite trick is to annoy you by setting off your siren often till you shut off the alarm or cut the siren off , then bang they steal your car!!

don't fall for it

Alarms rarely false once setup right

Could be a bad sensor or door trigger as well

How many beeps you can figure it out from that?

New sirens run 60-120 bucks retail depending on where you buy it

You must have battery backup model at min

Did you get your remote working ?

The siren is stuffed, the key to turn the siren on and off just spins freely all the way around!

If I can just connect a new siren to my alarm system that would be the best bet. I opened it up at one stage and there some burn marks on the PCB. So something had shorted/fried. I'd say water damage. The alarm was installed 3 years ago from august. When I did my stereo install, funny enough I didn't find the brain, I am hoping its a good quality install but who knows...

Remotes are still not working :(

Just spoke to the chap at auto barn, said the most probable cause would be a blown fuse, reckens vipers rarely loose their sync. Here's hoping I can find where the fuses are and check them

Haha did I call the alarm date or what

Check the siren model it's on the horn nose middle

A common problem on the ESP was the key spins and rips off wires steam kills the siren -slowly goes nuts

Yes you can update with a new much better siren easy enough if you know how to solder properly?

Any aftermarket installs after alarms seem to end with a dead alarm unless a security installer does it - about 80% of the time lol funny how that works

Dealers are notoriously bad

I can't disclose the fuse info online but the original install people could ? just don't go nuts digging around or it could cause more issues

True if the alarm isn't locked with bit writer Sync is only issue after dead battery but picks up the code quickly after replaced or charged again

Is your antenna ( alarm still plugged in and not cut?) that will stop the remote range to mm

I like to think i can solder well, did a few console mods back in the day.

Just found the brain of the alarm, looks like a pretty shonky install, nothing is neat. I am sure its a challange in itself to keep it neat, but I recken i could have done a better job :\ Little bits of electrical take here and their.

Checked the main fuses, none are blown.

Was trying to get it resync'd but hard to tell if i am in the right mode due to the siren disconnected, my valet switch was flashing which is a good sign meaning my alarm has power.

But just unsure how to pair it, the instruction's are not making much sense to a simpleton like myself.

Antenna wire looks all good, all wiring looked ok as in not damaged.

Setup shop on melbourne will u troy far out ha ha, I am not typically keen letting the blokes at autobarn touch my baby..

    • Not sure the US can import anything other than the C34 Stagea's, but if you can and you need to to tow, DO NOT under any circumstances get an M35 Stagea. If it is just as a family car and your country/state allows it, absolutely and definitely get an M35 (3.5L if possible as it is effectively a 350Z) over a C34.
    • Punch your VIN (nm35-xxxxxx) into Amayama.com You can see everything there quite easily.
    • Thanks for that, I'll check it all out. I can always do the brakes last anyway if its a problem.  The 16's are super cool, if they do fit I'll cruise around with them for a bit.
    • Well, that's kinda the point. The calipers might interfere with the inside of the barrels 16" rims are only about 14" inside the barrels, which is ~350mm, and 334mm rotors only leave about 8mm outboard for the caliper before you get to 350, And.... that;s not gunna be enough. If the rims have a larger ID than that, you might sneak it in. I'd be putting a measuring stick inside the wheel and eyeballing the extra required for the caliper outboard of the rotor before committing to bolting it all on.
    • OK, so again it has been a bit of a break but it was around researching what had been done since I didn't have access to Neil's records and not everything is obvious without pulling stuff apart.
