hey everyone, the new craze at my gym is the alkaline range. its got digestive enzymes that suit dairy/lactose intolerant diets like myself (blood group A cant have dairy)

but its $90 for 900g absolute joke! anyone here know of a seller or something?

To start with that's only if you believe in the blood group diet, which was 'invented' by one man with no hard evidence.

Alkaline protein powders have nothing to do with digestive enzymes or anything anyway. It will just help alkalise your body through added minerals, as protein powder is mildly acidic.

Just eat fruit and vege's regularly to keep your body alkaline, cheaper and better for you anyway. Everyone should be keeping their body alkaline as our diets are stupidly acidic these days, and acidic bodies are the cause of half our health issues if not more.

Digestive enzymes in protein is another thing altogether, and can help you digest dairy if you are lactose intolerant. However, whey isolate generally has no lactose in it, and there are many protein powders on the market that are lactose free.

Or alternatively you can buy digestive enzymes separately if you are having major problems breaking down food, or lactase enzyme tablets if you just have trouble with dairy.

Yes Simon; lactase or tilactase should be taken prior to ingesting dairy. But I've forgotten how long before.

Nearly all of us Asians have lactose intolerance to some degree. Dairy cows never originated in SE Asia.

Guys what are your thoughts on alternatives to whey protein like pea and rice protein

i know its alot more expensive but im trying to cut out highly acidic and processed food from my diet

a little off topic sorry

pea and rice protein isolates are not as complete in protein profile and the amount of processing is equal to or greater than whey. On top of that you might also have genetic modifications, herbisides and pestisides with crops to contend with.

No problem eating so-called 'acidic foods' when you are eating a balanced amount of alkaline ones. Occasional suppliment with whey isn't a problem. Eat a balanced diet.

It may be stating the obvious but, the best way to cut out processed food is to eat more whole food sources. People are always being drawn to the 1% issues through so called 'fast track' suppliments. Most haven't trained or worked out their diets enough to actually get good value for money. Even after you pay $90 a kg , it's not going to do bugger all if you haven't commited to the basics enough. As Birds said $90 buys alot of nice steak.

ive done alot of research and your right on the money simon. its not hard evidence its just assumed, i asked this questions for dieting reasons because iso whey has a bloating effect on me. i tried a tub of alkaline, il admit it felt easier to digest. but iso whey is lactose free anyway because it has no carbs, theres a enzyme called amonigen which is believed to brake down dairy.

Every meal i eat (every 2 hrs) has a green vegie/salad with it, the only fruit i consume is berries which is non acidic, so my diets down pact

im not lactose/dairy intolarent just want to minimize bloating

about rice/pea protein........

rice protein is undrinkable, ive tried it, its grainy as and its digusting im telling you, you wont like it

pea protein is ok but theres 400+ mg of sodium per serve so if your having multiple shakes a day its not to good, and also its not a complete source

See what worrys me is that even the guys behind the counter that are selling Whey say that its pretty much just garbage and that they are getting off it to switch over to Rice/Pea proteins.

i got some samples of Rice protein today, wasnt too bad. ive definatly had worse whey protein before

People say that it isnt a complete protein, but i reckon if your relying on protein shakes to get a full profile of aminos to build proteins then i think they are going the wrong way about it to start off with.

Ive read and seen so many studys and statistics on how the acidic and processed foods in out lives are the cause of 90% of our health problems that i really do want to stear away from it altogether... Dairy being a main culprit

Get a supergreen to help balence things out maybe, something like vital greens. Can get costly though. Maybe try a WPI if your not end up happy with the rice, or even soy though i havnt heard much about it.

And there is natural whey out there with no sweetners in it

Proteins are going to have acidic and basic properties depending on what the aa profile of the protein is.

All amino acids have an amine group and a caboxylic acid group coming off of the same carbon. Then they can have another carboxylic acid group or amine group somewhere else in the chain or not at all. The prescence of the second amine or carboxylic group in the amino acid will determine whether it is going to be more basic or acidic.

I really think you are over thinking stuff acid and alkaline proteins, just find a good wpi that you like the taste of and be done with it.

    • So, version 4 intake is on its way I was looking at these a while ago but at around $200 or more it was a little pricey for something that might not work, but, I had it in my watch list, but, I got a message saying it was on special, and I had a code thingie to use, it eventually came in at $120 delivered, so BAM, BUY NOW.....LOL I'll need to have a look when it arrives but I feel it will "look" better than what I currently have, as it comes with a PCV fitting, so I will be able to get rid of the alloy pipe that goes to the throttle body with the PCV fitting  Well, that's what the voices in my head are telling me  Oh, and this happened today Yeap, it was a Trojan, and it was cheap, so I headed back to the hardware store and actually spent a little bit more on a heavy duty,  one that was actually recommended by a plumber mate, a Cyclone one with a fibreglass handle that is actually rated for clay The broken shovel will eventually be "modified" into a short handle shovel
    • When you pulled it off, there is no signs of blown head gasket? Is it possible you have some other issues going on? Possible cracked blocked? Or do you think it's straight up lifting the head? Did you check what the head was torqued to before pulling it down (To see if possibly they're stretching, or starting to break threads out etc)?
    • Seems like a decent result for a modded JZX110. They are bulky in comparison to the 100 and 90 models (which I'd prefer myself) but they are getting very few and far between here in JP these days. Thanks for the detailed review and the import process into the UK. I also have a car which I'm hoping to export from Japan at some stage so it's good to know if someone from the UK was interested in it. By the way the corrosion underneath is par for the course for cars which were located in/near the mountains or along the Japan sea coastline. They get huge amounts of snow every winter and the sodium chloride is used on the roads. Many cars have some kind of rubber like treatment underneath but they tend to limit it to the wheel arches underbody and fuel tank. Suspension arms and sub-frames will have similar corrosion to your JZX110 which is a common sight. See it all the time and car dealers here generally don't even mention it unless asked.
    • If the sound goes away when you clutch in, the 1.5/2 way diffs are just shit, and you are a normal person. The diff is likely "fine" but driving at anything under 30kmh is a violent horrible experience. It would be exaggerated with solid diff bushings and subframe bushings if you have those.
