You and me both Joe.

I will also be using a full race manifold on a built 32 GT-R so I'll just see what state the crank is in when I pull it out as to whether I get a stroker or not.

Otherwise I will just rebuild my 26.

Should be a quick car.

What's the Goss on pistons rings and rods at the moment ?

I'm looking at JE pistons with carillo rods atm unless somebody stops me.

working under the assumption I don't end up needing the stroker kit.

Also bearings etc if anyone has any suggestions outside the usual ACL goodness.

There is nothing wrong with JE pistons and carrillo rods are awesome as well. As for bearings I use king bearings in my rb25 as well as the JE forged pistons. Any top name pistons are up to the task of abuse in rbxx engines. And everyone will differ in opinion. More come down to how well it's screwed together in my opinion.

Cheers Josh

my 2c? anything is useable in a mild build. buy whatever is cheap. I've used 5+ types of pistons and all have been equivalent.

If you want a billion horsepower it's different, if not it is the machining that matters most

I want 600hp at the wheels, would you consider that enough to warrant more research Dunc ?

is this enough power to warrant the stroker ?

Keep your suggestions coming !

Power won't warrant a stroker.

Where you want the power will.

Your budget really will depend on what you buy. No point buying carillos if they aren't needed. $$$ for other parts.

Nitto do combos with rods and JE pistons

Like Duncan said, more often than not its the machining that is the make or break factor.

Plenty of good pistons out there Mitch. Pay more attention to the gudgeon than the piston for that power level.

600hp = 450kw at the fly = ~350kw at the wheels.....pretty normal power level as far as I'm concerned, and it certainly doesn't need anything special.

I'd be more careful over 400-450atw.

Yeah Dunc, I want 600hp/450kw at the wheels.

wondering whether I'll need the stroker for driveability.

aren't the pins usually supplied ?

I'll be getting Chiltons to do the machining.

I'd be more careful over 400-450atw.

There is a nitto 2.7ltr stroker short block for sale in the for sale section. With 450kw Atws more capacity is always going to be better. Just depends what you want to use the car for and how much money you want to spend. It'll be roughly 15k+ for a decent built stroker in my experiences with mates builds. You could always put a dirty 30 in. After that I doubt you would ever look back.

Cheers Josh

Hey Mate,

once you've overbored a normal 26 there isn't really much to displacement to be gained by going to a 2.7.

A 2.8 is the smallest stroker I would consider.

in my situation the only costs I have are parts and machining.

through my research I found the RB30 to be less cost effective than a 2,8 stroker or a normal 26.

Unless people know cheaper places to buy stuff than I have found, which is one of the points of this thread lol.

Cheers,

Mitch.

A well built 2.6 will give more power then needed on the street, JEs and Carillos are more then upto the power you want as are all the others mentioned so whatever you feel comfortable forking out for will work just fine

but if the crank has to be replaced anyway then for the extra cost a stroker is the way to go for the extra capacity, I am nearly finished with a rb2630 build, capacity is king but how much, I think its size v cost v hassle, if I did it again the BC 2.9 would be the way I went

I have brought from those ebay guys before with no hassles

Thanks dude,

I am leaning towards one of those strokers.

I will start to compile a list for all of you to critique.

    • Well, this is probably where a wiring diagram and a multimeter come into play.
    • I can say to anyone thats doing this; having done a number of R clusters; just be careful if its an unknown cluster.  It takes a bit of force to pull up; but if it feels excessive then its probably stuck. I've had this and pulled the entire hair spring out; and I can tell you; its not easy getting the correct spring replacement with the correct inner diameter and winding. In my case someone had used some sort of adhesive to stick it to the spindle and it pulled the whole spindle out; which the force seperated the hairspring from the spindal and caused it to deform.  You may have to clean it (IPA); or in my case if i'd known i should have used some sort of solvent on it.  Also check out Cruizin Central on eBay. He does all sorts of dials; and you can email him with any custom designs you want. So if you want like certain logos etc...he'll send you a mock of what it will look like then you accept the order and he'll take care of the rest. Fantastic dials and he can do basically any design you want.
    • Have you confirmed its the actual axles? Also the wheel bearings that mount on the hubs to hold the axles wear out. I replaced mine as they got play in them. It sorted my play issue.
    • Ive converted a few clusters for the R33 with 320km/h dials. On the back there are some pads which can be bridged or unbridged (using solder or wick braid) to calibrate it. There is one bridge which is for MPH <> KPH; and there are combinations of bridges to offset it. There is probably a diagram  For example; this is my conversion for a 180km/h dial to a 320km/h dial (I put custom GT-R dials on it with the GTS25t layout) If you have J2 soldered (assuming the S clusters have a similar config to the R clusters); you may need to remove that solder
    • Back on topic 😉, these are some of the notable pages from the booklets that are supplied with each weekly parts update. I never knew the BNR32 test mule car had an S13 Silvia front end... *Edit: On closer inspection the test car still had the R32 body, but only the front end had Silvia panels etc.
