Shannon's can get bent as far as I'm concerned. Everything about their elitist business model reeks. Even once I went through their rigmarole and proved I was a sufficient 'car enthusiast' to an arrogant and indignant prick on the other end of the line, he then churned out a quote of no less than $3500 for a stagea (!!) I paid 16k for. Clearly spelling out to me that they in no way wanted me as a customer. I ended up finding insurance elsewhere for a quarter of that price, full comp.

I'd only place Shannon's mildly ahead of just cars (who are aami) and I will never re-insure with aami as long as I live.

I'm with RACV - for my v35 - 29 yr old w no claim or driving history, full comp, choice of repairer, windscreen cover - $890.

Yes, don't want to take the risk with a 'hoon' car. I'm with JustCar and they are quite good, I would go with Shannons but as I'm under 25 the conditions they whacked on where not worth it.

If anyone is to go with JustCar, I strongly advise everyone to read their PDS first and read every line over and over again until you get it 100% so if in the event you do get into an accident, you know what to say to be able to cover yourself. There's quite a few points in there that I'm not satisfied about, namely if you get into an accident, the car has to be repaired by their selected smash repairer. Given that insurance jobs with Skylines would require new parts which isn't readily available, the cost of repair is jacked up and the chances of being written off is high. In short, you don't get a say in where your car goes to repair as I would have mine repaired at a JDM specialist.

Been through the claims with NRMA and now I'm with JustCar but I would consider swapping back to NRMA based on their PDS. Another point in favor for NRMA is that if the other person threatens court action to dispute against a claim made against them and holding them at fault, NRMA will back the person 100% in who they believe is not at fault. JustCar requires you to represent yourself which also includes attending court dates.

I'm with Justcar. Had a claim a few years ago, no hassle at all. they sent someone around, had a quick look, approved claim as repairable write-off, i bought the car back very cheap and sold it as parts..

Very happy with everything about them which is why I went back when i bought my new Line :)

what state are you in, try that states equivalent.

apart from just looking at the cheapest, consider the excess and coverage too.

cheaper premium, usually means a higher excess. Fine if you just want cover for major damage, and always make sure you are clear on what will be covered.

eg, if someone steals my wheels or my stereo i have an agreed value of replacement.

There are so many variables that determine which will be best for you, just work out exactly what you want vs what you are prepared to pay and find the closest match. Every company will have good and bad reviews.

Gave Shannons the boot after 7 years. After moving house, my premium went up $500, and paying by month added an extra $200 on top of that. And thats for a limited use policy... for a 32yo with clean history and max NCB

They are not the company they used to be. You no longer get a car enthusiast on the phone - last girl I spoke to had no idea what a 200SX was. The calls are probably just taken by a generic Suncorp call centre now

LSV gave me a slightly better policy at half the price

Junkie you hit the nail on the head. AAMI, just cars, shannons are all owned by Suncorp Metway. I've spoken about this topic last year and my experience with shannons refusing a claim and what I went through. A quick search and you may find it.

To be honest, we all try and get the best prices but what about when theres an accident,My question is, Do they use original parts?, Is the process simple?

If ones car qualifies for NRMA VVC, there specialty insurance is worth a look.

LSV give me choice of repairer, just like Shannons... which is good but there's always some fine-print. It wont mean they have the freedom to use new or OEM parts, and even your preferred repairer will be pushed down on price... as I learnt from my one and only claim with Shannons a few years ago

My 200 needed a replacement bonnet and front bar, both of which were secondhand items and not in the best condition. The job itself (my preferred repairer) wasn't 100% spot on, there was overspray, missing rubber knobs from bonnet and radiator support, buffer damage on my window trims... kinda disappointing after some really good work they did in the past, and I'm sure the secondhand bits were Shannon's idea as new parts are still available from Nissan

    • Take the value it measured as, and pick the closest range available that is above the reading on the screen.   Also, no point just testing the coils. Read what has been said again. You need to test all your wiring, everything.
    • Does the scanner do all the CUs in the car, or only the ECU?
    • @666DAN sorry to bring you and old thread.     I've got my de+t done and it's all running great other than 1 small issue.    Car has remained auto with the na auto and tcm, I've used a stagea ecu with. NIstune board and everything is great other than my gear selection on the dash. It illuminates park, reverse, neutral, 3rd and 2nd when selected . But nothing when in  drive or what gear your in when you pop it into tiptronic. I'm sure there is maybe 1 wire in the ecu plug I need to move to rectify this. Do ya have any ideas?     Cheers man
    • Well I recently changed my rear axles and was thinking if I bumped anything, I have been driving the car for a while now though... But it has been raining today so everything is wet under the wheel arches. Brakes feel fine and can't hear any of the metal screamers, I had a squeak coming from one of the handbrake drums but that seems to have gone away a while ago. I was going down a hill when it lit up and I did feel the abs bite for a second and question why it did it?
    • Correct. Um. I dunno. I haven't cared enough about the way that the NA cars work to know for sure. But..... The 33/34 turbo manual cars have an electronic speed sensor in the gearbox that outputs a +/- (ie, sawtooth AC) voltage signal. That is connected to the speedo. The speedo then outputs a 0-5v square wave (ie, PWM) signal that the ECU (and any other CU on the bus) sees. The speed sensor is NOT directly connected to the ECU. So here's the problem. Your new ECU expects to see the PWM signal, but must somehow be getting a direct signal from the diff speed sensor. Which would suggest that the wiring of the NA car is not the same as the turbo cars. I think you will need to spend some time with (hopefully the wiring diagram for the car) and a multimeter to see what is connected to what. Then, presuming I am correct**, you would then want to separate the ECU speed signal input from the rest of the car's wiring, and probably either buy a speed signal converter, or build one using an arduino (or similar). That would take in the speed sensor signal and output a scaled (and suitably rearranged) signal for the ECU. ** We shouldn't presume that I am correct here, because there might be something else crazy going on. I don't think you could convert the speedo to be fed from the gearbox sensor, because the pulse rate from that sensor is probably different to the diff sensor and then the speedo would read wrongly. And this also wouldn't fix the ECU's problem either, because the ECU doesn't want to see the gearbox signal direct either (assuming that they are all on the same wiring, for some odd NA related reason, see above caveat!) Does this help? Probably not. Can you make it work? Almost certainly. With the above work. You should buy a handheld oscilloscope from Aliexpress so that you can view these signals directly. Connect up the probes and drive the car. Show photos of the screen when drving at known speeds and connected to different places, and we'll see what we can learn about it.
