I have a 1998 R34 GTT, when I pull the boot release cable the boot lid doesn't spring up by itself. I thought it may have been the boot struts because when you go to close the the boot, the lid kind of just falls so I purchased another second hand set off a guy who showed me on his car that it would open by itself.

Installed the struts on mine, but the boot still wont spring up by itself. Am I missing something? Is there some other spring or something else somewhere.

I just have the stock boot and wing (As far as I know - hasn't opened by itself since I purchased the car)

Thanks for the help.

Usually the boots with wings dont open by them selves. The wing stops this. Boots without wings will fly open. Did the guy you bought the new boot struts from have a wing?

I removed my wing and my boot flys open now.

wow! I've also had this issue since i bought the car about 1.5years ago now. I've been meaning to get it "fixed" as I initially thought it was also the boot struts needing to be re-gased or somethng.

Didn't know it was a "normal" thing that happens.

I've just been opening the boot by using the key. Kind of annoying when you need to take the key out of the ignition just to open up the boot.

Oh well... guess I'll just have to suck it up lol.

On R32's there's a little leaver on the locking mechanism, you slide it up or down which stops the boot lid from unlocking via the in-cabin boot release. This is used in conjunction with your keys, R32's have a normal key and a valet key, the valet key will not unlock the boot or glove box for security purposes.

I assume R34 are similar?

I haven't seen any sliding locking mechanism. Where is it located? on the lever inside the cabin or in the boot itself?

I'm pretty sure I only have 1 key to unlock the car, as well as the boot. Glovebox has no lock on it.

Oh! i do have that. It was covered by boxes so I didn't see it lol.

I moved it both positions, but my boot still won't open from puling the lever inside the cabin. Maybe i do need to replace the struts...

Which position do you move it to in order to make it open from inside?

34 GTT also - same same.

Unlatch only - no lift.

Conclusion - all the same

32 - yep. Had me stumped for a short while when someone changed it in a workshop - WTF ??

But worked it out - lulz had

Remove boot wing and it turns into a catapult - WHOOSH !

Don't the 34's come stock with a wing? If so, then why would they make it so that it doesn't open with one? lol. :verymad::/:down:

Nah sorry - not the 34. It just seems to be a design fail.

But the 32 does come up slightly with the stock wing. Different hinge mechanism.

When you remove the wing from a 32 it slams up !!

I haven't removed my 34 wing to test, although due to wheight reduction, I would expect it to come up higher.

Quite often on my 34 it will latch itself again :(

yep, my r32 was the same with the spoiler removed, refitted spoiler and now i just use it as a handle to open the boot

haha, that's what i do.

Quite often on my 34 it will latch itself again :(

Mine unlatches and latches back straight away. Have to just keep using the key i guess

    • Pads for R32 GTS-t, R32 GT-R non V-Spec (Sumitomo), R33 GTS-t and R34 GT-t are all interchangeable. R34 GT uses a 2x piston caliper, hence it didn't fit.
    • Checked with amayama and nope, the full S2 manual set is not available anymore. Unsurprising, but still disappointing as the ? on availability gave a glimmer of hope.

    • The 296mm rotors are the R33 turbo brakes. The 310mm rotors are the R34 turbo brakes. The calipers are nearly the same, but not. They're the same caliper but the R34 caliper has longer legs so that it sits out far enough to go over the rotor. The pads are the same for both. When you say, "I bough tsome EBC"....did you just mean pads? Or rotors? 310mm rotors fit under 17" wheels. There may be some wheels without enough clearance though. I can't fit my fingers between the barrel of my wheel and the "corners" of my R34 calipers, but there is plenty of room behind the spokes. This is on Enkei RPF1. You can fit 324mm rotors inside a 17" wheel, but I'd be willing to bet that it would be close to impossible with the Nissan/Sumitomo caliper (using an adapter, of course), because the Sumitomo caliper is fatter than the Brembo caliper that is supposed to go on the 324mm rotors.
    • Hi. Can someone tell me what brakes(and mainly WHERE) can i buy brakes on R34 GTT? I bought some EBC which SHOULD go on my car(i have GT but it has GTT brakes) but it does not fit, Brakes are "too" small(296mm) Are 310mm be good or? I have 17 inch wheel so no "big boys" but for me driving i just need one that fits and i can get here in EU/Czech.
