Thanks nick, ill definitely check all those things out, its always had a rough idle and low rpm jerking since I first put the GTX on and tuner said it was the tomei cams that would be doing that but maybe whatever it is has finally come to a head here, be interesting to find out whats happened.

Think ill just leave it alone for a few days, got the shits with it all now..

 your idle should be pretty smooth with a light lump too it BUT you should not have any jerking at low speeds...

As for boosting it, you didn't have a tune for that turbo yet? Which means you should not have been boosting :domokun:

yeah true, couldn't help myself.. :P the knock levels were all under 20 and the previous tune was a very similar turbo but yeah its a different setup I guess.

All good ;)

Nothing a weekend with a few beers won't fix

That's the spirit! ;) The worst that could happen is a rebuild right, and then its RB30DET time.. hmmm RB30... :glare:

Its the setup and turbo to blame, you are spooling way earlier where there is no fuel in your map! You may have damaged something :(

well I hope not, running the Eflex gives me a little confidence that things may be ok, ill try and find out with a comp test, spark and fuel test this weekend.

I guess it was a bit silly though, Im getting busy reading the RB30 threads lol... even if its a long term goal.. :whistling: probably should of done that instead of the TS ... lol

Looking at the power fc, I decided to increase some "injector correction", funny it seems to smooth out the idle and no it sounds almost normal and isn't stalling at all, sounds a bit ballsy lol..

Can anyone tell me what that does? im thinking its increasing the fuel which kind of makes sense seeing as it wants to stall.

"Injector correction" is the setting to adjust for larger injectors as far as i know, the tuner should have sorted that part out

good read man! subscribed ;)

im going to run a gtx3076 .82 myself, on 98 when did you see boost coming on?

will be taking the car for a smoke test next week to rule out vacumn leaks, then once that's sorted book for a tune in a few weeks,

I found the gtx was disappointing on 98, it was fast but just happened a bit late and lacked some wow factor. I could get a few psi low in the revs but the pull happened a bit after 4000rpm.

Thanks for that , sounds like a good idea, how does the pressure not leak out the cylinders down the exhaust?

I found a sizable leak on the intake manifold using some carby cleaner, the bolts seem to be bottoming out before they clamp on the gasket enough so getting the old man to make me some new washers as its 3weeks wait to get more from Japan, that's the rubber spacer/washers around the plenum bolts.

When you do the smoke test normally you're testing from the pod up to the throttle body because it's closed. It will seep out and of the hoses and gaskets not doing their job along the way to that point.

If you open the throttle body then yes some may escape but it's not under enormous pressure so it just sort of wafts out where it can and then dissipates harmlessly. And you'll probably get to see all the plenum hose and gasket leaks there too.

That's how it was when Sean at EFI did mine prior to tuning.

Cars booked in for a tune on Thursday, sorted the wastegate out today and put 3springs in it which are supposed to combine to give 14psi, one down side to the Wastegate location is it took me most of the day just to change the springs, be easier with a car hoist id say..

also did an oil change and filter to prepare for some punishment and fixed a second leak around the plenum :verymad:

Been checking for leaks with the Carby Cleaner and cant find any more, will try the smoke testing idea hopefully tomorrow.

Can anyone confirm how to hook up the tial 44mm to the AVCR? I've hooked it up with 2 lines going into the bottom row of ports , all others plugged , but maybe it should be one line to the bottem and one line to the top and block all others..

Missed tune day :( but probably for the best as been having trouble with the manifold plenum leaking, was using a cosmetic gasket and tried tightening the bolts more which helped but then it cracked and no im in the process of fitting a replacement manifold.

Hope it works out this time, theres some United servo's that have opened up nearby and sounds like its better than Caltex so might be even better for my setup :)

well back when I put the GTX on it started leaking on the way home after the dyno runs, that was with the OEM Nissan gasket, then I replaced it with another OEM and it leaked shortly after then this time I tried the cosmetic gasket and its been worse, so now i've replaced the bottom runners and trying again with another OEM gasket,

Tune on United e85, that way you can use either mate.

the last few tanks havn't smelt as sweet so im looking forward to some higher doses from united, when ive sorted out these leaks and its dyno time, how far do you guys think I should push it? would it be bad to push it upto 340kws even just for a couple of runs.. ive been debating it for a while..

also heres some pics, I think by the looks of this one that one half of the plenum was not sealing off

does this look like a crack? every cylinder has it so im assuming its a casting mark,

Looks like the ethanol/water droplets on the valves

No real updates here, I fixed the leaking manifold and shes running sweet, just waiting on dyno availablility, early days but im loving driving it already, in third and forth it pushes me into the seat on just 1bar.. :P tuner said the tune will be more like a touch up, its running low in knock at moment less than 20..

Got the windows tinted, pretty dark in the back and lighter for the front windows

This is the new manifold I bought secondhand, powercoated apparently, ended up using no gasket at all but can see the manifold and topfeed rail etc in this pic

    • I got back to Japan in January and was keen to get back on track as quickly as possible. Europe is god-awful for track accessibility (by comparison), so I picked up a first-gen GT86 in December just to have something I could jump into right away. The Skyline came over in a container this time and landed in early January. It was a bit battered after Europe, though—I refused to do anything beyond essential upkeep while it was over there. The clutch master cylinder gave out, and so did the power steering. I didn’t even bother changing the oil; it was the same stuff that went in just before I left Japan the first time. Naughty. Power steering parts would’ve cost double with shipping and taxes, so knowing I’d be heading back to Japan, I just postponed it and powered through the arm workout. It took a solid three months to get the car back on the road. Registration was a nightmare this time around. There were a bunch of BS fees to navigate, and sourcing parts was a headache. I needed stock seats for shaken, mistakenly blew 34k JPY on some ENR34 seats—which, of course, didn’t fit—then ended up having the car’s technical sheet amended to register it as a two-seater with the Brides. Then there’s the GT86. Amazing car. Does everything I want it to do. Parts are cheap, easy to find, and I don’t care what anyone says—it’s super rewarding to drive. I’ve done a few basic mods: diff ratio, coilovers, discs, pads, seat, etc. It already had a new exhaust manifold and the 180kph limiter removed, so I assume it’s running some kind of map. I’ve just been thrashing it at the track non-stop—mostly Fuji Speedway now, since I need something with higher speed after all that autobahn time. The wheels on the R34 always pissed me off—too big, and it was a nightmare getting tires to fit properly under the arches. So I threw in the towel and bought something that fits better. Looks way cleaner too (at least to me)—less hotboy, less attention-seeking. Still an R34, though. Now for future plans. There are a few things still outstanding with the car. First up, the rear subframe needs an overhaul—that’s priority one. Next, I need to figure out an engine rebuild plan. No timeline yet, but I want to keep it economical—not cutting corners, just not throwing tens of thousands at a mechanic I can barely communicate with. And finally, paint. Plus a bit of tidying up here and there.
    • Nope, needed to clearance under the bar a little with a heat gun, a 1/2" extension as the "clearancer", and big hammer, I was aware of this from the onset, they fit a 2.0 with this intake no problems, but, the 2.5 is around 15mm taller than a 2.0, so "clearancing" was required  It "just" touched when test fitting, now, I have about 10mm of clearance  You cannot see where it was done, and so far, there's no contact when giving it the beans Happy days
    • It's been a while since I've updated this thread. The last year (and some) has been very hectic. In the second-half of 2024 I took the R34 on a trip through Germany, Italy, France and Switzerland - it was f*cking great. I got a little annoyed with the attention the car was getting around Europe and really didn't drive it that much. I could barely work on the car since I was living in an inner-city apartment (with underground parking). During the trip, the car lost power steering in France - split hose - and I ended up driving around 4,000kms with no power steering.  There were a few Nurburgring trips here and there, but in total the R34 amassed just shy of 7,000kms on European roads. Long story short, I broke up with the reason I was transferred to Europe for and requested to be moved back to Japan. The E90, loved it. It was a sunk cost of around EUR 10,000 and I sold it to a friend for EUR 1,500 just to get rid of it quickly. Trust me, moving countries f*cking sucks and I could not be bothered to be as methodical as I was the first time around.
    • I assume clearances were all a-okay?
