Neo heads seem rare as hen's teeth, rang few wreckers and they wont separate the heads , so stuff paying $2K for the complete engine....and I don't want some neo head that's been out in the rain for 6months or is in pieces..

Need advice on how much I can shave the R33 without it getting silly ( hitting valves, ruining the quench zone etc), thinking of using a 40" ACL head gasket and hopefully nudge it up to 8.5-8.7 to 1????

I figure a stock NA VL goes alright, so with my head slapped on, a GT30 and E85 etc its got enough bolted on the make it a good setup... but if its going to have 120psi per cylinder then I need to rethink this...don't wanna be someone that come on with a "My RB3025 is making no power" kind of thread later on

Moving in slow steps... lol but now I have the major parts so now I just have to not f*&k it up ;)

Took more pics..

That's the exhaust I used before to get the 320kw with the 25, look like it would be loud but very acceptable, its 3 1/2inch all the way, will have a 4inch dump made with the external, should be pornographic, love stainless steel..

I got this Jap muffler off my bro, I wont use it but thought id show pics of its guts, its 3 1/2inch with 2 1/2inch restrictor?? It actually sounded very nice, id use it if I were only wanting sound and 200ish kw, great option for some people..

Been buying up heaps of bolt on parts, its not cheap to modify an RB like this lol... although this is cheap in comparison to some builds ive seen, maybe mine is like a beginner/intermediate build hahaha Couple of buys from SAU members I wanna mention, Scotty was great to deal with, also Kudosmotorsport and Ben's supplying me with some VCT adjustable cam gear, these injectors are dam sexy!!

So I tested the Neo head with some industrial crack testing sprays and it leaked terribly so ive taken it to an engine shop recommended by my tuner for a valve regrind and recondition, ordered some Tomei 260 9.15lift cams which are apparently needed to reset the shims.

Not sure about getting springs , being a budget build I think I might take a gamble and see if it valve floats on the dyno but its still an option to replace them at the moment..

So next few weeks gonna try and bolt it together on the engine stand so it can drop in with the box on in one go, but im not a mechanic so could be interesting times ahead lol.. so guys like me with little mechanical knowledge might be interested in the pics to come etc as im pretty amateur and will rely on the old mans fitter and turner skills where skill is needed..

Havn't heard the RB sounds for ages, I hope it sounds pretty pissed off... haha.. extra cubes and extra comp should give some poke.. But lets not get to far ahead , plenty to do yet, just having a few beers so hope this post makes sense :)

Good work on having a crack yourself! Looking forward to seeing how you go over the coming weeks.

So just going the stock RB30 bottom end plus RB25 non-NEO head? What sort of compression ratio do you think it'll end up with i.e. do you think you'll hit the circa 8.5:1 you were aiming for?

Thanks mate, I actually changed to plan and bought a Neo head and will bolt it down on stock RB30e bottom end, it will just get skimmed so very similar to some other builds done recently. Guessing it will be like 9.3:1 zone just from other threads ive read.. Both engine builder and tuner advised against skimming head too much to get high comp , they say it will get harder to tune?? so just gonna take that advice and hope for the best..

Yeah I thought same but they know more than me, either way it should be quite a lively streeter , its all a bit of a gamble/compromise for the budget builder like me, if she blows then its game over for a long while again lol..

Does anyone know what engine mounts will work so i can close the bonnet, ( once its in there) so far ive read that VL engine mounts will do it...

Got the tomei cams and waiting on engine builder , was going to run the stock springs and retainers but he reckons go a set of supertech springs and retainers or equivalent which sounds good, but budget is getting blown away ...

I'm waiting on a price from the builder for the springs, but i cant actually find anywhere that sells supertech for the neo, so might have to go some performance springs with titanium retainers... i thought the neo gear would of done this 300-350kw goal though... but he reckons he had to rebuild an RB25 recently due to a cracked stock retainer, but that cant be too common with guys on here running big numbers on stock engines but who am i to debate with the builder lol...

open to opinions and advice here... :special:

Yeah i agree, they weren't really needed, but they help fatten up the curve. My goal is area under the curve and try to keep some top end which will probably fall off alot more with stock cams?

Was reading Matt (34Geeteetee) and some others are using performance valve springs and retainers so ill just go with the same..

Heads back, ended up getting the performance valve springs with titanium retainers as well as full recondition with VCT feed. Fitted up the coilovers, sits bit higher but have to wait til the engines in to decide final height.

    • looking for some help and maybe some insight on others experience with a new LSD. R34 GT ran and drive beautifully, but always alot of grip loss due to the open R200 rear end, so I just installed a new 1.5 LSD way into the stock open R200 for a ER34. Simple. Everything seemed right. I test drove for the first time this weekend. as I started to back out the garage the first time slowly with tires straight it sounded and felt like I had a loose or half disconnected drive shaft...that was clucking around loose and shaking entire vehicle, and making it feel like the trans clutch was spontaneously slipping then grabbing very roughly while just letting out pedal slowly. I backed it out went to pull forward with the same noise, shake and slip grab feeling with hesitation, I turned the tires to back out more and then pulled ahead some same thing but worst because of added wheel resistance (which that I expected) puzzled … pulling it back in checking everything over and finding nothing wrong, I tried it the next day. same thing, couldn’t believe how it shook everything again making a terrible noise and making it feel like the trans clutch was slipping and grabbing, but I got it out of garage into the driveway, got it straight, drove forward and then reveres a few times in a straight line everything shaking , causing what felt like clutch slip and grab every time, sounded like right behind front driver tire and I could feel it in the floor board with my feet,... worst right when beginning to let clutch pedal out to engage slightly, shuttering and sounding terrible along the way…I managed to slowly get down the road, babying it the whole way, once I was rolling (out of 1st) seemed to be better and between shifts, then clutch felt closer to normal…not slip/ grab etc., but back down to any stop, straight road or turning, same thing. Made no difference if all tires were straight or if I was turning. All other gauge read out correct. with in 2 miles as planned I reached the empty parking lot and performed the break in procedure that came with lsd, essentially to drive in a figure 8 a bunch.  Did this, binding chattering, and shaking the car the whole way. I drove it back home seemed somewhat normal once I was in straight line and past 10 mph or so, and I know it will “bind” on corners and cause some tires squeal when turning especially from a stop, but when I begin to move it still causes what feels like the trans clutch to slip and jerk badly as well as shaking the entire car, and sounds terrible, that I didn’t expect. I used the fluid they supplied with LSD kit and did the breaking, planning to change fluid as they suggest after breaking, but wondering will it get smoother or less aggressive with use? maybe a 1.5 is just too aggressive for normal road driving?   I have a LSD that I put in my 71 cuda when I restored it, with amazing smooth , quite yet effective results. Different style LSD but that ones a joy to drive. maybe expecting too much from this R200?

    • Hello!  i just finished manual swaping my r34 skyline with a r33 rb20de box(RB71C)box  When the car is running it squeaks crazy loud and it was smoking from the gearbox area. The gearbox is fine it was tested. The clutch slave cylinder seems like it doesn't fully releases the clutch. I want to ask if this noise is from the throw out bearing or could it be the clutch assembly or disk att.xFliq87Gzw6kImKBVqDebXkj0fBqymk0JaYeP3_3SlM.mp4
